Demo'd both...Brainworx just sounds more authentic, it really shows in their technological approach. The FX also sound great. Bought the BX...not a hard choice for me. Arturia does make some good stuff, seems like it just depends on the model you're after.
I have Arturia Sem and iSem for the iPad along with the OP-X Pro ii in software and they all sound slightly different in their own environments while sounding great. I had an OB-Xa years ago, and recently I got my hands on an Oberheim Matrix 6 which has a wonderful sound while only lacking the 12 db filter option of my old OB-Xa. On a wide open filter, I'd expect a saw is a saw is a saw and a pulse is a pulse is a pulse no matter which hardware/software emulation. It's the Filter response and envelopes that shape the timbre that counts. This may be sacrilegious and hard to believe, but the Yamaha Reface CS with it's 18 db filter that doesn't self oscillate sounds impressive. Set it's rez at around 75% of full resonance and it's 18 db filter response along with a dual amp/filter shared single envelope, can sound very Obie like. Play with the Filter cutoff and you can get some very Obie pads. There is a slider that takes it's single oscillator and mods it to a thick multi saw sound, then take that and I've dialed in the rez punch of Rush -Tom Sawyer. While it lacks sample and hold so it can't go full Camera Eye, it's filter wah growl really comes close to that Oberheim sound. The CS will never have the modulations of the software or Matrix series and it's portamento can't begin to get close to Oberheim. In mono it doesn't stack unison which is sadly similar to the Arturia stuff. It just goes to show how much character a filter defines a synths timbre. The goal of the SEM was to compliment the Moog filter sound by having that 12 db response. If you need to have the Oberheim sound, we are very lucky to be living in an age of access to these soft synths. After what Behringer has been doing with Model D, MS 101, and their Odyssey I sure hope the UB-Xa becomes a reality.
The BX version of the SEM is a CPU ogre, that must be taken into account... so if you don't have a monster PC or if you want to use multiple instances in a track with long releases, multiple modulations, just take care, the BX will put your PC on its knees... (at least for the very first version we can test, but generally this problem is never solved, just look a SoftTube modular for example, lot of novelties since many times but always a CPU ogre, the same for many synths like Diva etc). Wow. That video looks like a lot of work went into that. Respect. The alternating 2 variations of chord with the oberhausen and TMT bothers me a bit. I also own a OB-6 and it doesn't sound like a OB-6, but it has an oberheim tone that's very hard to get with a vst
@@zombizombibx_oberhausen, in my ear it sounds more close to an analog than any vst I heard. In all honesty, I never liked any arturia clone of old analog. Their Pigment 3 and later versions though is a master piece of vst software synth.
This gave me the urge to load the SEM in Logic and Catalina on the 16" MacBook, and i was playing some 4 note chords and the cpu meter was barely registering (track was armed live for record at 64 buffer, in other words, it was actually on 64 buffer and not on the logic hybrid playback buffer). I have never touched a real synth let alone played it but can you tell me is this like an emulation of some old version of oberheim? The only one that I know of is the blue one.
I think you don't need any of those two...Arturia's version would benefit from an overhaul of the sound engine (like they did with some of their older offerings), as for bx_oberhausen...it's a very average sounding and featured softsynth with one of the worst sounding filters I've ever heard...I don't get the praise for it, to the point that I even got it for free, given it a chance two times and uninstalled it for good with no remorses.

Pretty disappointed in this synth....it does wonderful analog but not so great on newer EDM and dance music...the unison only works in mono and this thing is cpu pig ...also the unison is not detunable...for the price its not even remotely worth it. A far better option is Uhe Diva.

bx_oberhausen is prolly one of the best emulation of a analog that i've used, bought it for 49eur, early release or somthing like that, think it costs 200-250, still worth it though, it's a goto guy if u need a oberheim vst. I also own a OB-6 and it doesn't sound like a OB-6, but it has an oberheim tone that's very hard to get with a vst
You own an OB6 that doesnt sound like an OB6? Is it broken? :)
@@zombizombi I was always talking about the vst plugin, how it matched up against the hardware OB-6, the discussion is about software.
@@mrlargo7067 what I'm wondering is what would be better for Ob6 sounds, bx_oberhausen or disco dsp obxd which also has a sem filter
@@zombizombibx_oberhausen, in my ear it sounds more close to an analog than any vst I heard. In all honesty, I never liked any arturia clone of old analog. Their Pigment 3 and later versions though is a master piece of vst software synth.
bx_oberhausen vs Cherry Audio Eight Voice?
this video sounds like it was summed to mono. we miss all the stereo goo
Arturia is more the dirty one. Bx gives us the power. I like both of em
It sounds damn good per cpu cycle that's for sure. How heavy is the brainwork in comparison?
The only problem I find with Arturia is they all tend to sound the same. Their Rhodes is excellent !
Whyyy are you having Logic in loop mode during the entire video?!?! 😩😩
haha.. I've no idea... nice to see someone concentrating :)

I have never touched a real synth let alone played it but can you tell me is this like an emulation of some old version of oberheim? The only one that I know of is the blue one.
Yes it’s an emulation of the Oberheim SEM
Yes modelled on the Oberheim SEM.

Google is your friend. ;)
The blue one wasn't even an Oberheim. It was made by Viscount, which licensed the name from Gibson to use it in their synth.
im trying to figure out if you`re a posh scouser or from the Wirral :)
Haha... you can get pretty hefty tones from the ‘posh’ folks Wirral as well.
It really does go to show how far away from the hardware they BOTH are though.

BX lost they're lid with the price of this synth you can get the Behringer Crave for cheaper

I think you don't need any of those two...Arturia's version would benefit from an overhaul of the sound engine (like they did with some of their older offerings), as for bx_oberhausen...it's a very average sounding and featured softsynth with one of the worst sounding filters I've ever heard...I don't get the praise for it, to the point that I even got it for free, given it a chance two times and uninstalled it for good with no remorses.
these sounds made my cat phat
I’ve always quite fancied being a fat cat. Perhaps if I play these long enough I’ll become a multi- millionaire ... here’s hoping 🤞
BX version analog sounds
listened both, still not impressed, even not a closer to Repro1 sounding copy of Sequential Pro1, maybe not this demo, but i dont hear a warm in my ears here..dunno, maybe need more demos. thnks
Pretty disappointed in this synth....it does wonderful analog but not so great on newer EDM and dance music...the unison only works in mono and this thing is cpu pig ...also the unison is not detunable...for the price its not even remotely worth it. A far better option is Uhe Diva.
arturia much better
I picked the Brainworx over the Arturia... 'cause it's FREE at the moment :)
Where can you get it for free?

Only 300 presets. Have to say no to that.
Oh come on now. It's a Synthesizer. Learn to make your own patches.
both sound very digital and nasty.
For some reason the SEM V appeared in my Arturia products page, I won't complain.
