After 10 years of various Intel i7s, I've just switched to AMD after seeing this video. Although I own an NVidia RTX 2080 Super, I've had enough of big cases to find space for big GPUs. Thanks to this Ryzen 5 5700g I've been able to build an HTPC because I still use DVD-ROM drives and it runs smooth even with Doom Eternal 720p at medium (42 fps).

Greetings from the future of AMD, having RDNA2 iGPU on their Desktop CPUs, but they have just not enough CUs (just TWO!),
to even compete with any of their mobile counterparts with 660m/680m with 6/12 CUs,
but only limited choice of Notebooks really putting them to use and some niche mini PCs utilizing them...

I honestly wonder if it would perform any differently if the CPU were locked to 3.7Ghz instead of boosting to the moon, would be interesting to see a 30-60w power target for that processor still as long as the GPU still ran at 2000+mhz i'd be happy though i still feel like the aging vega graphics are holding this powerhouse back, This generation I really would have liked to see a ryzen 5 5470GX with 4 cores 8 threads, and 12 Vega CUs running at 2200mhz

For me this is the way to go with emulation and sofa gaming: small form factor box, powerful APU, lot of ram, SSD and Windows or Linux.
But the best part is that a device like this can work also as HTPC and YT browser, and the user doesn't have to mess around with the Android interface and apps.
Also, this is the kind of hardware that one can buy used and fit inside an old unused dvd player, with some modding.

It's not just RDNA2! The AM5 platform will feature more faster DDR5 which will surely benefit Xenia (I can totally tell that Xenia loves faster VRAM)

These apu machines will be the future. Raspberry will release one soon. Then all the manufactures will stop making old cards. People dont really want the hassle of building and sourcing the parts (although its therapeutic building computers i find). People just want out of the box gaming, and to be able to play all they spent a lifetime playing (and spending their money on).

Hi ETA and thanks for the video! You inspired me and currently i am building up the exact same system :-)! i only need to wait until someone offers the cpu at ebay. it is impossible at the moment to get that cpu somewhere. would it be possible that you make a short video guide how you overclocked the apu? that would be great! thanks and best regards

thats a 950 dollar emulation build. for 950 bux id be playing a lot more than retro games. i have seen other channels review the retrostation mini pc and that costs about third of what you built this for and it can be upgraded and it can run 80 percent of everything you showed in this video. dont get me wrong this is a fantastic build. but to me if i were to build this mini pc i would be playing modern games on it for the price i spent.

    Ryzen 7 5700G
    32 GB Ram
    500gb nvme
    4TB hdd
I only need ram and some cpu power for programming and virtual machines and the APU is plenty for old school Emulator Gaming Ps1 PS2 etc.
Im not interested in modern gaming titles unfortunately
4TB hdd for my games collection and other stuff lol
