I can honestly say, this is by far my favorite channel on UA-cam! I love your sense of humor, your passion for gaming, and the attention to detail in every video. Keep up these amazing videos!
I really appreciate hearing that!
Dude this is exactly what I needed to get my little Niece up and running on old school games. Thanks
The Oreos for the videos!! Haha. Love your videos. Amazing sense of humor. Extra points for LSP.
Wow, this channel will be huge. Definitely the next retro game corps.
Niche gaming with a cartoon like persona. I love it.
Tech dweeb is my favorite by far
Haha I hope you're right! Thanks for saying so 🤓
@@TechDweeb I was wondering if you wouldn't mind dropping a short video on how we can add retro emulators of OG Xbox, Wii, WiiU, PS3, Xbox360, NDS, 3DS etc to this "Hyper Base Mix" if it is even possible? This would be awesome for us TechDweeb subs.
I have a more than capable PC and want a drive that is awesome! Deleted the shady PC pirated stuff. I just need pure retro bliss.
Been using launchbox and a 8TB HDD for 7 years and it never gets old

This was a great review and I like how you mention how many games for each console as well as notable exclusions. Could you review the 5tb kinhank drive or one of Chris Shaw's drives because I only hear shady things about the guy?
Haha first video of techdweeb i see. Love your style, funny, informative and hard-/software curation! Subbed!
Thanks for saying so! Welcome 🤓
Ordered through your link. This looks fantastic! Thanks for the review!
Nice! Enjoy!
Great video Tech Dweeb! One thing worth mentioning is that pirated pc games often contain virus' as well so might be worth scanning the drive before using it?
Actually I did a scan (I probably should have mentioned that in the video). No detections. But like I suggest that folder should just be deleted anyways so that should sort out any issues.
I don't want to offend you at all, but I think you should use your real voice as the filter I find abit hard to listen too.. excuse me for saying
I don't mind at all, I honestly appreciate your feedback.

It's so cool to see Mclovin reviewing emulation tech
lol
Could you configure Emulation Station to run the higher end systems? Like I know it can but is it just paths or something they changed to make them run through launchbox?
Totally. I'd probably just move the game folders to the emulationstation roms folder instead of launchbox. Emulationstation comes with the emulators all setup and ready to go, so that should be all you need to do.
@@TechDweeb sweet. I have one more question for you. You said before that it probably isn’t a good idea to connect these Chinese emulation boxes to the internet because of potential viruses. Same for this one? I like RetroAchievement’s but that’s requires an internet connection.
Thank you for the super informative video.
How do the multiple disk games like Amiga work?
This rom set is insane, damn you, I need one now.
What a guy!
Thank you kind sir. Also love the onion os theme on the miyoo mini. I just got a plus and slapped it on.
Nice! I love that my theme is par to the official Onion skins :D
Another banger, sir. Good stuff!
Would this work fine with moonlight to stream games from my pc to android tablet? Using a controller connected to my android, would set up be a breeze? Lastly, if i was interested in PS2 emulation, which drive would you recommend? Thanks for the video and great channel!
Awesome. Your Mum sounds nice, bless her for going to the shops for cookies while you talk to yourself ;-)
Ain't she a sweetie?
This was very interesting. I might actually consider buying this.
Hi, great video
Could I please ask a quick question, what's lunchbox like compared to emulationstation?
I've used loads of emulation Station but I've not got any experience with Lunchbox...
Is it just a case of pick a game and start? How to you exit games and can you change setting like resolution?
Emulation station is a fullscreen controller interface, it's a big fun colorful frontend that you navigate with a controller. Launchbox is more like a rom manager, that you navigate with a mouse. Other than that they're not much different, both are just frontends that display your games and launch the emulators.
@TechDweeb thank you for taking the time to reply to me I appreciate it.
Silly questions (mabye) but how to you quid full screen games on lunchbox?
It is as simply as hitting the "Escape" key or do you need a button combo like "start & back" to return to the menu screens?
I've ordered one of these after watching your videos 😁
When you play the games, does it keep the save files so that you can return to the point you were at, such as story games? And if it does, would it not fill up more storage space with all of the save files?
Yes, you can use in-game saving, or save states. And you won't have a storage issue because save game files are very tiny.
Thanks for letting us know about the last section. I was so close to buying it until then.
I gave the company my feedback directly, and told them I mentioned this in my video. Hopefully they listen and make the change I've suggested.
Yeah, I’ve been hoarding my own collection, with a combination of standalone emulators and RetroArch, and I don’t really see the point in paying for someone else to do it for me.
This did give me the idea of putting that collection in its own separate 5TB+ drive, though.
You pay for the service, if you have slow internet, if you don't have time-expertise to hunt down all the romset online, etcetera...
It's very tempting on saving time with just paying a premium to download all the games.
Thank you for including the game lists
Really enjoyed the video and the appraisal, quick question I looked at the games list and the system list, I noticed that Sega Model 3, Sega M2, Atomiswave in the video, but not in the games list. I was wondering if the games list is complete or if Sega Model M2, Model 3 are not on the drive, could you please confirm
Thanks!
Yup. All of those are on here, and they all work.
I have 4tb build that I put together myself. All using RetroBat (Emulation Station) from the oldest stuff up to the Switch, one program can be configured to do it all. There is no excuse for them to use separate programs. It's just laziness IMO.
Agreed.
I am doing that on Ps classic. It takes time but it worths it
Do you by chance sell that 4TB build you made?
Does ypur build include PS2 game NHL 2003?
I know nothing about this, just want to install the drive on my PC and start playing. Let me know if this is something you can build and sell to me. I can pay for the drive and your time to prep the drive. Thanks!
Dumb question. Did you have any issues hooking up controller's? Like xbox or ps5 controller's via blutooth? Thanks
Nope

Great overview!
Hey mate, you forgot to add the link for the list of games on the drive
Doh! Thanks for letting me know, they're added.
Great video! One question I have is if you checked to make sure they didn't put a pirated license of Launchbox on there. This is a thing I have read about from the developer of Launchbox is that some of these drives have the full license on it and they shouldn't.
I thought Launchbox was free, but Bigbox was paid, unless I'm mistaken?
@@TechDweeb correct uts the free version
Hiw is Sarurn running on your system.wont run well on mine, yet my retrobat Saturn games on the hdd I made works
Itsca priated free version, as normally the free version is limited to 50 tiles only, so they have hacked launchbox free version
The pc games are great. Lunchbox is also prated
is the a way to connect this and play on a tv?
Also did it with with a wireless Xbox controller or do I need to buy the countries bundle? Thanks
This is the first box, well usb drive, I am impressed with and tempted to buy. I have gathered a bunch of roms before, but I never set them up like this because it felt a bit tedious. For my pc, that I use as an arcade, I downloaded bundles of roms that were set up for CoinOps. It had a good arcadey selection. This one looks well done. I would probably keep playnite, delete the pirated pc games, and add some legal copies of easy to run games from GOG.
The launchbox and emulationstation split is still weird. I am assuming it has to do with emulators and ease of use? Anyone can correct me if I am wrong. Emulation station is controller friendly, but it relies on emulators runnining in retoarch. Most of the emulators are good, but some are not. I see most people use the standalone versions of PSP, Saturn, and PS2. I have never used launchbox.
Honestly I think the only reason they are separated is out of laziness, they probably downloaded two separate ROM libraries that were pre-configured with these applications. There's no reason you couldn't just have both romsets featured under one single application..
@@TechDweeb @TechDweeb I was wondering if you wouldn't mind dropping a short video on how we can add retro emulators of OG Xbox, Wii, WiiU, PS3, Xbox360, NDS, 3DS etc to this "Hyper Base Mix" if it is even possible? This would be awesome for us TechDweeb subs.
I have a more than capable PC and want a drive that is awesome! Deleted the shady PC pirated stuff. I just need pure retro bliss.
Thanks for posting this and showing all of it. I've been looking for this, but little to steep in my opinion... Of course, I don't like that the current games are on it that's a deal breaker.
I got this today and everything looks great one problem every game is fast as in playing way to fast. Is there a setting I am missing to put them on normal speed? TY
Can you access cheat codes In redream like emulator if you wanted ? What’s in the pinball games ? Fx2 or pinball arcade with full dlc ?
Hey man thanks for the videos,
Can I copy the entire drive into an NVME super fast drive ?
No reason to really, but yeah
Yup!
I was thinking the same thing or to just put everything in launchbox
That is still an insane collection, even before looking through the actual list! But, yeah, I completely agree on the Xbox front! I love that old big black box, with its big green splodge that does nothing but sit there... being green... it had some great games on it and a lot of better looking than their PS2 counterpart games as well! I would definitely grab the LMA Manager games as well and it did indeed appear that Tag Force was on there! That, if anything, is even better for my channel and future Let's Plays... I have an Alienware 17 R4 Gaming Laptop and Desmune is insanely fast on here, too fast even, I really ought to sort that out, but either way, this should not have any issue even with the higher end hardware emulation! And I wouldn't mind, but I've been looking at softmodding an Xbox recently as well... Did I mention I love that system? Though, I would certainly ditch the Grand Theft Auto Definitive Edition, I refuse to buy that on principal, although, no doubt Pokémon is going to be on there, I should imagine Digimon as well as other Yu-Gi-Oh!... Also, Final Fantasy VI was missing from the PlayStation Library and that was the first Final Fantasy I owned and played and it was the PlayStation version at that, though, I believe I did spy the GBA version that I've been doing an Anniversary Let's Play of!
I always ask this but is there a way to run this on the Xbox series X? If not what kind of cheap PC mini PC can I get to run these games well?
You can setup emulation on the Series X, but it's pretty complicated. If you did you'd be able to use the roms on this drive though.
However, if you want a plug & play experience then the AMR5 Mini PC I reviewed recently would work well. It's on sale right now actually - amzn.to/41uY867
If you could run this on my steam Deck, then everything is perfect.
So I just got the hyper base mix and for the simulation station it only lets me play older games but it doesn’t let me play DS or super Nintendo like it loads up the screen like if it wants to launch the game but then it backs out every time I keep clicking on it can you help me figure out what to do please?
Try pressing select when you have Snes open, go down to 'advanced system options', and then change the emulator. There should be several to choose from, maybe one of those will work for you?
Yo @ Techdweeb you are the goat!! Bro thank you for taking the time to answer my question... But bro not gonna lie I hear Mini-PC, and get a little nervous about my my low-low tech abilities.... I just want to play Genisus, PS1 PS2 Maybe get into Dreamcast as a new thing.... Period......
No prob! A mini pc is very easy to setup, it's just like a laptop or whatever. Not as easy as an android based console, but still pretty easy. Especially with a drive like this that comes all setup.
You're not gonna get PS2 and dreamcast if you're not on a PC. THe android consoles are great for the old stuff (genesis) and up to ps1/n64, but none of them can do ps2 or gamecube. For that a mini PC is the best low-cost choice. If you do want to go the easy android-console route (keeping in mind you'll only get up to Ps1, n64, and dreamcast) then the most powerful version of those is the Super Console X King. amzn.to/3WMIDEK .
FYI, in my discord server, discord.gg/RfhFFcvazY , you can always get help with any pc or retro game problems you come across ;)
The best value miniPC on sale right now is the Beelink SER5 Pro with Ryzen 7 5800H at below $400.
This is quite a large collection of games! I was really impressed with the amount of GameCube and PS2 games on it! This is perfect for those who just want to just plug it in and start gaming.
Like they used to do with plug n play games of old.
@@josephcontreras8930 ahh the good old days where we didn't have to wait for a stupid update to fix the game.

Keep it up Dweeb Lol love the theme of the channel. Brings me back to old cartoon network show.
Thanks buddy!
I'd be worried about malware if they're gonna pack in pirated PC games w/ it.
Yeah that's always a possibility. My virus scan didn't show anything. And if you just delete that PC games folder you should be fine.
Just bought mine. Was a little worried about dropping this much cash, but after watching your review and reading the comments. I think I made the right choice.
Nice! I'm still happy with mine, I've used it a ton. It's super handy to have so many games ready to go.
@TechDweeb awesome really glad to hear it. I can see this becoming my primary device. You seriously cant go wrong with the old school systems. I've already challenged the wife to street fighter 2.
Can anyone provide a game list?
@@jimr6846 it would honestly be easier for you to ask what game is not listed on the system.
Hi
I just got one of these after watching your video . I love it but I can’t get sound out of the arcade section . All the others are fine . Cab you help ? Thanks
Hmm. That's a weird one. Never encountered that problem before. Maybe try opening the retoarch settings while you're in a game without sound (usually start+a, or start+b, but try others), and then go out to the main menu of RA and go into settings, audio. In there are several settings, like changing the audio driver etc. Try fiddling with a few settings, like changing the audio device or whatever else you can see. If you find a setting that works make sure you go back out to the main RA menu, then into the quick menu, then down to 'overrides', and select 'save core overrides' to make sure the settings you changed are always applied for that core. Good luck!
Everytime you upload i tune in

I saw this too on Amazon and I had to do a double take when I saw Witcher and Cuphead as part of the collection. I thought "here comes a lawsuit." I am with you... I have spent so much cash on PC games but always thought "hey this isn't something I need, but something I want for entertainment." It was always money well spend and like you say the developers deserve the support.
Totally. Emulation is a victimless crime. PC piracy certainly isn't.
@TechDweeb Emulation isn't a crime dude. It's in how you get the roms that Nintendo et al comes a sniffing.
Its very clearly advertised lol

That's very impressive to see all those games on one drive 😅😮
Is there a device with such a big collection of retro games including PS2 and GameCube, with 2 controllers which one can plug directly into TV? Thanks.

My old emu had an HDMI out, do they make a version with one, or an aftermarket hardware way to accomplish it? (My pc is downstairs, and really want this for the couch life)
Nah, this one needs a PC to run. If you want something able to plug into the TV you'll want one of the android emulation consoles (I've reviewed quite a few on the channel). Look up the Super Console X Cube or the Hyper Base King.
Aliexpress is also selling miniPC with drives similar to this for plug and play on TV.

From the video looks like no retro 8/16-bit computer games?

Do you think that making a copy of this hard drive to an external ssd would boost performance even further? Or would it be throwing money away?
Maybe slightly faster loading time for the more recent console systems like Gamecube, PS2 etc and the PC games. The rest likely no difference.
Game performance will definitely depend on what PC you connect it to.

Have you tried out the 12tb or 16tb hyperspin drives? Are they good or bad?
They look pretty pricey but 12tb and 16tb drives themselves are very pricey so maybe they're an okay deal. I'd love to try one someday.
Im guessing that object that looks like a tape cassette is not a tape cassette, what is it?
Is the Drive SATA if so does it come with a USB converter? I have a gaming laptop so that size drive would need to be USB
The only concern I have is how reliable the drive is. If you made a rom collection and put it on a drive I would gladly buy it from you. You're the retro master.
Since it's a normal USB drive, you can just copy out the files and backup onto another drive.
It would be interesting to know the manufacturer's brand, could someone who has it see it with some HD program?

I doubt it. You'd probably need to transfer them via PC. Eh. If it could this would literally be perfect.
You can access the roms if you plug it in via usb (a dongle or dock), but you won't be able to run the emulation program (unless you had Windows installed on your deck), so you'd have to setup emudeck yourself first.

Depends what you mean by 'run'
Nearly everything will run on a low end PC: ua-cam.com/video/y44FNj0irYk/v-deo.html
But if you have a modest gaming PC you can do upscaling: ua-cam.com/video/ttA7bUCziR4/v-deo.html

Nope! But, if you get this product the company has an FTP server that you can connect to and get whatever other ROMS you're missing. Not that I'd condone such things...
People, just curate your own collections. You never know what craziness you're putting in your PC if they're willing to straight up put pirated modern PC games on it... 😂
Messing with emulation settings can be daunting, but it's a fun learning experience if you're into tech. I curate my own collections for my emulators by ripping my own games and other "archives" 😉 And I still find time to do that working two jobs.
And best part it's free and won't give your PC a Trojan. 😂

Hi tech dweeb. I did buy the 2TB version for windows and I am really enjoying it. I do have a problem though, on ps1 games that are multi disc ( Lunar silver star complete for example) I get stuck when prompted to change discs. I have tried loading the second disc in the retroarch menu but this does not seem to do the trick. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Great channel btw. I hope you read comments on older videos.
Huh. I don't know what to suggest to be honest. Using the Retoarch menu is how I've changed disks in the past. Maybe try downloading a different version of that rom to see if that is the issue? You don't need to start a new game, just download the rom and see if loading different disks works. If it does you can rename the new rom to the same name as your old rom so that your old save game will work.

No this one is PC only. If you want one without a PC then you'll need an emulation console (I have a few listed in the description).

Loved your video very interested on this harddrive. Is it really plug and play though? As someone who is not really tech savvy i'm hesitant to spend that kind of money and then not being able to use it because like I say I don't know a lot about this kind of stuff.

Can I connect any controller or bind buttons to any controller and does it have wii
Hey, I could really use assistance. I bought a mini pc ( miniforums um690) just to try this product out. I’ve had this for 2 weeks and spent hours trying to figure out how to use it. I can’t figure out how to play launch box, n64 and above without stuttering. I’ve tried to access retro arch via launch box and change which core it uses to play n64 games but it doesn’t change the core and stays stuttering. If I connect it to another mini pc that already has retro arch on it and plays n64 games and above fine. But still when i access n64 ganes and above via launch box via this external hard drive it still stutters. Can someone please! Help me?.. so far not out the box not able to play
You definitely shouldn't be getting stuttering in N64 on that Mini PC.
You need to try to narrow down why the problem is happening.
Try installing Retoarch on it's own on the PC itself (you can get it for free through Steam). Then in RA download a few N64 cores, and try to load your games (you can select the games of your external drive within retoarch under 'load content').
If the games work fine there you'll know there is an issue with either the emulators on your external drive, or maybe with the fact that it's loading the games off USB for some reason.
If it's a problem with the emulator on the external drive you can try updating Retroarch on the drive.
You can also try copying one or two games to the internal drive of your UM690 and see if they load fine there. If that's the case then it means loading off USB is causing the issue, so you can try different USB ports maybe? Not sure what to suggest if that's the case.
TL;DR: Install your own emulator to see if that works, so you know if it's a problem with the drive, or just the PC itself.
Today I bought a Windows 11 laptop so I can use the Hyper Base Mix. I noticed on both Emulationstation and Launchbox there’s no in-game sound on most of the games. Is that normal?
Anyone know if there's a tv version of this emulator? Would be cool to play on the big screen.
I'd suggest adding a MIIN PC to attach to the TV and turn it into a home theatre PC.
@@TechDweeb thanks 🙂
Or get those cheap Android TV boxes that came with bundled games which you can connect directly to TV.
Once u delete the PC games, can u add a wii or PS3 emulator and games to it?
obv bro u can add... but you have to link the destination to the retroarch
Definitely! The good news is that those folders are already in the Roms folder, you can just add the games to the folders and they should be detected (if you're using launchbox you might need to rescan the roms folders).
what os do you use to run all those games?
Windows.
"Bob, can you go to the store and get bore oreos?
Bob:" wahh wahh"
"Thanks Bob!"
😂😂🖤
Good old Bob. Always coming through with the Oreos!
😂😂😂😂💯🔥
Can I copy this drive onto my laptop and play it from there without any additional work? I'm thinking this would be a easy way to get the Asus Ally Rog up and running. I'd have to remove a TON of the games but in theory, is it possible?
Yup! It all runs from windows so there's no reason you couldn't copy it to your local storage and run it from there.
Good review. THANKS
