I hope your efforts are compensated by Halide somehow because if it was up to their instructions I would have erase the app already despite the fact that I consider myself an experienced amateur.. Though my jury is still out, I appreciate your help. Best regards.
Ahh this is great. Love that you've got value from the tutorial. No, the developers haven't acknowledged this tutorial whatsoever but that's fine; I make them exactly for people in the same situation as you.
I set up this camera as the author has for video, and I have a problem my iPhone 7 does not open the DNG format which is in raw +, I don’t understand, and my image quality in raw is low, worse than in a standard camera, what should I do?
@@JAKE-wt1dr The photos app can't display RAW files without an embedded JPEG. Try opening your RAW files in an editing app like Lightroom, Darkroom or RAW Power.
Thank you, this is so helpful. I downloaded Halide a year ago and have hardly used it because I did not really know how, intending to learn later. Later never came until now, as I have to decide whether to pay for another year's subscription. I will have to watch your instructions a couple of times but the first time has given me so much information about the app. Again, thank you
I was a little hesitant to watch this because it didn’t have 2 million views; however, this was the best tutorial I’ve ever seen on any subject, I think you hit a home run.
Bar none…one of the very best tutorials I have ever watched and I watch a ton of them on different topics and apps. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this clear, concise, and informative.
I think we all should give credit, where credit's due. Thanks a lot for this extremely detailed and well structured tutorial. It's tough to imagine how much effort you put into this half an hour video, but definitely it's well worth it. I'll be strongly recommending it to anyone who wants to take on the adventure with the Halide. And, obviously, I'll be looking forward to hearing from you in case Halide decide to drop in some new features. Watching and listening to you was a real pleasure. Cheers, Greg.
Thank you, this was very comprehensive and helpful. It was what I needed to purchase the Halide app. I am an amateur at best. Very well presented and great clarity. Like somebody commented, I hope you were compensated for doing such an outstanding job for Halide.
Absolutely great tutorial. Thank you, it was really informative and whilst Halide’s own tutorials were a start, this was much more helpful. A PDF would be a wonderful adjunct to have available as a reference, though I do realise how much additional effort would be involved. Thank you so much for all the care and effort that has gone in to all your productions - a new video notification is always a reason to stop whatever else is happening and settle back and enjoy!
Thanks for putting together this tutorial. I'm a professional photography working in Los Angeles and I have wanted to use my iPhone as a point and shoot camera for simple street photography, and your tutorial on Halide has made me actually use my iPhone camera more regularly. Thanks again.
Halide have introduced v2.15. They now have ‘process zero’ for truly raw captures. I have the greatest respect for David’s analysis of Halide and as he is a fan of Halide, I would really appreciate his comments on the new mode and the ‘image lab’.
Very well made. Full coverage and nicely paced without any "vocal excitement". Also appreciate the "no clue how to use this feature remark" :). You would expect Lux to have a full featured tutorial like this vs a 10 day email course. We may even find out how they intended certain features to be used.
Thank you David! I have had Halide for years and use it in auto as my go-to photo app. I never realised just how powerful the app is until watching your EXCELLENT tutorial. I will use my phone camera so much more now as a result!
I just discovered Halide, and your excellent tutorial, a couple of hours ago. Thank you, and I'm looking forward to future videos! I'm also throwing my hat in the "please create a .pdf" ring :)
I've watched several of your UA-cams on RAW photography - some a few times - coming to terms with the terms used. Years ago I began getting into film and darkroom techniques. RAW and post production opens up similar possibilities to 'playing' with photographs. Now I have an iPhone 11 and have - of the options you've reviewed - chosen Halide and have begun learning how to use it. Thank you for your calm and comprehensive tutorials..
You thank us for watching, but we should thank you for putting all this together, David. For it being your first tutorial, it's a banger. It's very well paced and thoroughly so. Many of the things you teach I have found out about myself, but some details were really helpful and can't wait to apply them (especially knowing that zebra is not always under/over exposed and I always had a hard time "getting rid of all the zebra" in my manual exposure). Thanks again for taking the (presumably lot of) time of doing this and sharing it with the world. Keep it up!
Wow, I learned the app propertly thanks to you and someone paid tribute to my effort on learning things, which made me happy. Thanks for the great tutorial.
Three years later, and this tutorial is extremely valuable. I found the app when I was looking for something to do some head shots for my wife and I wanna make sure they look really nice and not just a phone pic. Thanks so much!
Really helpful tutorial. Thank you. I was a little hesitant with Halide as there were a few things that I didn’t understand. Thanks to your video I’m more likely to try it out more now
Great tutorial! I was planning to delete Halide once my free trial expired but have now subscribed. My only suggestion would be to leave the ring light out of the frame as I found it distracting. Thanks for your time and effort in producing a very informative piece.
Bought Halide but never used it. Couldn’t get my head quite around it. But your how to use here now it all makes more sense. Halide owes you. Thank you. 😎
ive been really struggling with complex exposures on the raw photo via Halide and this has given me a couple techniques to try! i know my iphone 12 is probably giving me some technical constraints, but with better attention paid to the histogram + zebras + manual isu/shutter I should be able to improve! Thanks!
Just got Halide and was more than flummoxed by the number and complexity of the features. Your tutorial was very helpful! I grasped most of what you said but plan to watch it again. Excellent instructional video. I have downloaded it to my UA-cam downloads and will use it for reference in the field. I plan to do a lot more experimenting with my iPhone 15Pro.
Hi David, I am an 83 year old man and once had the latest Nikon DSLRs and lenses. Got rid of all that and now take all my photos with an iPhone 12 Pro Max. I realise that there many photo Apps available, and in your experience, what Apps would you recommend, (obviously Halide would be on that list) as I'm sure you must have tried quite a few. Many thanks Terry Davis

This is awesome! My only suggestion is that you packed so much info into a half hour, you could have split it in two. Usually I'm watching at double speed, but in this case I had to stop every couple of minutes and review what you said. Very useful!
Wonderful tutorial, David. Was a big help and I've signed up for the 7-day trial. Will give it a run through, but so far it is a terrific flow in the UI.
This is the best tutorial I've seen on Halide Mark II. Can you provide an updated version for the 2024 version 2.17.3? Or a PDF version if that is easier. Thank you David!
Th k you for this excellent video. Really like the presentational style and it’s made things really clear for me to take step into ProRaw and use a more powerful app than the basic iOS camera. Thank you very much and keep making the videos. I’ll be watching as many as I can.
One thing you missed - in a single lens iPhone (SE 2nd generation) the x1 can be tapped to x2 or x3. When you take a photo, the App saved jpeg at the increased number eg x2 or x3, but HEIC and RAW are at original x1 resolution only.
Excellent! Thank you David! I really didn't understand what's the purpose of the small icon at the left when you're in portrait mode, it turns the image all grey, can't understand what's its use. And if you access to the portrait mode using the small square icon at the right, then you can tap or not where it is written PORTRAIT, the small square remains enabled, but you can enable/disable the PORTRAIT icon; I didn't understand whether it changes something...a tutorial on portrait mode would be highly welcome! Is it normal that in portrait mode only HEIC format is available?
Thanks for this Tutorial. I,ve tested many camera apps Like ProCamera and so on, but Halide make me feel to make good Photos easy with so much Functionality. But i dont know which is the BEST Camera app but i think i use Halide for the next Time.
Very helpful and easy to follow. I was a little disappointed to see there wasn’t an option to save favorite settings.... But the tutorial itself was excellent 👍🏻
I don't even own the app but i sat through and watched the entire video lol. Subbed as well, your videos are great and very informative. It's been a long time since I have been able to dabble in photography,, and so this was a great refresher. My girlfriend loves to take photos so I may get to get back into it again and wanted to find an app that will get me as close to a DSLR as possible since I am also not in a place that will allow me to grab the next best canon lol. This app has caught my eye, there are a few concerns but I think I will get this sometime.
I bought an iPhone 13 mini with the idea it may be able to replace my compact camera for a family/friends take everywhere camera, and with that ‘everywhere’ also just those occasional times I would normally have my full frame but didn’t bring it along. Well…, it has been hit and miss with the iPhone processed photos, and so my interest in a RAW camera app. Great video and well explained. Does the Halide app do the macro photo setting like the Pro models on a 13 non-Pro? Can I crop in (zoom in) with the JEPG or do I need to crop in the RAW? Thanks, waiting for better weather and free time to try the free trial.
On 3:15 you mentioned a 7 (seven) photo quality settings. It would be the best option to describe in exact settings in the app each of them. I want to use Halide just for the BEST processed image, but don’t know how to adjust this. There were no great tutorial on the app itself, or LUX Optics UA-cam channel, so I have to find your very impressive video manual. Keep that going. From that seven quality option you mentioned, I’m only interested in the four: maximum quality of processed image. If I understand the interface correctly this can be achieved only while shooting RAW + Coverage mode? And I cannot separate those JPEG from DNG file?
For a full quality processed image without a RAW file just enable the smartest processing option and turn RAW off in the quick bar by tapping it (it should turn grey).
Awesome, as a newbie, I have a lot to learn using an iPhone for photography. But you did an excellent job and I will go over it several times. Your offer for a PDF would certainly help. Keep up the great work 👊
Really informative and very helpful. Doing a bit of travelling soon and really would rather not have to take a DSLR and multiple lenses with me. I use a DJI mini 2 drone a lot and am hoping to try to get everything else with the iPhone 11 Pro thats always in my pocket, so your videos on Halide mk 2 and Even Longer have been a great help in getting the most out of the iPhone camera
Hello. Great video. You deserve more views and sub. A question: the locus loupe seems to only show up in the center screen, even when I'm trying to focus on some other part of the screen. Is there a way of moving the loupe like, for example, in ProCam?
Am I going to be a better person having understood RAW? :). I Liked your tutorial, and not to inflate your ego too much, It was probably the best tutorial I have ever seen. I don't understand why these camera companies do not all for Kelvin temperature settings, in order to help match one camera used with another, specifically when I am shooting Video, you know, maybe I need to insert a still shot into the video. Also , nothing on Panorama? Why nobody is allowing manual settings on pano capture, I do like the sweeping motion collection as appose to the multiple shot mapping sticking method. Plus you get some fun images with moving bicycles with multiple tires and stubby looking cars. I have been waiting for years for them to get panoramic setting options right. The panorama allows at higher res photo in landscape format.
I’ve only used the Freevision Vilta-M. I still use it a lot in my videos today and it’s been fine, but if I’m in the market again I’m probably going DJI Osmo from what I’ve heard about it.
Great info and presentation! The way ‘Halide’ is pronounced here though is jarring for me every time, because normally that word has the stress on the first syllable, it’s HAlide, not HaLIDE - unless your 2nd syllable stress is the pronunciation used by the devs too?
¡Qué maravilla! Incluso con un nivel medio de inglés (y gracias a los subtítulos) me he enterado de casi todo. Gran trabajo ¡enhorabuena! ¿Harás algún tutorías sobre edición de fotos? 🙏🏻
Many thanks for this great tutorial. I enjoyed it a lot. I have a question regarding an app I saw on your phone. It's the one that shows the golden hour. Can you provide me with the name of the app please? Thank you in advance.

@@David_Addison Im on the 7 day free trial .......see how it goes !
Great tutorial. Did you ever put this tutorial in PDF?
No, you can't move it unfortunately, which does downgrade its usefulness.
I love your tutorials
They love you watching!
Great stuff 👏. Looking forward to your video on Apple ProRaw
You and me both!
Would you say that this is better than the moment app??? If so which one do you use daily or do you use both? Great vid my man ‼️‼️
Am I going to be a better person having understood RAW?
Really great tutorial! I've recently acquired a 12 Pro Max so this is just what I'm looking for as a Halide newb. Thanks so much.
My pleasure Ian! Happy shooting!
@@David_Addison Thanks! btw, any good recommendations for a gimbol for iphone?
I’ve only used the Freevision Vilta-M. I still use it a lot in my videos today and it’s been fine, but if I’m in the market again I’m probably going DJI Osmo from what I’ve heard about it.
@@David_Addison cheers! will look into it. Have a great xmas and all the best for 2021!
Thanks Ian. You too!
Thanks for this! Really helpful David!
Great info and presentation! The way ‘Halide’ is pronounced here though is jarring for me every time, because normally that word has the stress on the first syllable, it’s HAlide, not HaLIDE - unless your 2nd syllable stress is the pronunciation used by the devs too?
I dare to be different 😄
It’s a year later and iPhone 13 Pro & ProMax are now available. Any further updates to this excellent video? Many thanks. Much appreciated.
Excellent tutorial, David. Thank you,
very well made, congratulations.
Thanks Armin!
¡Qué maravilla! Incluso con un nivel medio de inglés (y gracias a los subtítulos) me he enterado de casi todo. Gran trabajo ¡enhorabuena! ¿Harás algún tutorías sobre edición de fotos? 🙏🏻
Thanks for your contributions!
My pleasure!
Many thanks for this great tutorial. I enjoyed it a lot. I have a question regarding an app I saw on your phone. It's the one that shows the golden hour. Can you provide me with the name of the app please? Thank you in advance.
I think you're talking about ProCamera. It's ProCamera's widget.
