My cousin is there, and I just heard of his death yesterday. God bless our soldiers, I wish I could have seen him one last time, and I pray for his fellow heroes who have passed on.
I remember being there in 2010… Route New York South was a dangerous route in that area… I was 264th EnCC out if the 27th EnBn out of FOB Shank and Altimur
This is my husband's company! So proud of him! The boys and I miss you baby! Come home safe and soon! Zac sounds so tired :( Stay strong I know Brittany can't wait for you to come home so yall can get married!
I was in charkh in 09-10 doing route clearance and you knew the second you got into that town it was getting crazy. IEDs everywhere, rpgs shot from alley ways and dudes paralleling you shooting from behind walls. First time I saw a taliban dude he was 20 feet away from me throwing a pkm over a wall.
It is weird to see footage of not only where you are going to deploy but the unit and men you are replacing in this war... See you soon 10th mountain, your time in that area is almost complete and me and the men to my left and right will be there to take your place
@xtwistedxamayax I am sorry for your loss. My husband loss a buddy on the 9th and he is probably the same hero. My heart breaks fore your family and my prayers are with yall.
i remember the class we got taught at BBK after these 2 guys were burned 2 death, and did not know how too manually open the MRAP backdoor. I also rembmer all the guys who shot themselves in the foot or leg...because that AO was so badly infested with haji..no one wanted to be in charkh.
@Slecker95 Calm down...I did not get nasty with you. I NEVER said we should stay & YES we have been there too long & we are starting to wind down like we should. However, I am not one for blanketed comparisons especially about a situation I am tied to in deeply personal way as you are...I have lost a friend over there & I have friends there now...Afghanistan is NOT Vietnam. The two are factually not the same. Saying they are is spinning the situation for emotional effect which helps nothing.

@Viracocha711
It was never a war, just an occupation, just a bloody awful occupation like Nam. :(
