thank you SO much much. I'm an upcoming freshman, and we have a scrimmage game this week. I've never considered myself a great setter, as I usually pass and hit. The varsity volleyball coach informed me that I will move up to varsity and set for them this year, and yesterday at practice I used these tips. she said "Lilly, your sets have gotten so much better in the past three days. what are you doing?" thank you so much for these videos!

I may be playing varsity my freshman year, as I've gotten several of my adult friends talking to me about the varsity coach putting interest in me as a setter. Playing for club, I'm always in, and I always felt as if my setting was a tad bit inconsistent. I was hoping to find something that would help with that as I'm going into highschool. This has helped a lot though, so thank you
I have two questions; 1. Should my hands be facing outwards or upwards when making the square? 2. Do I need to hop when setting? Or is that to prepare us for the jump set?
Sorry for the vv late reply, i hope you got answers for your questions but if not heres my take 1. Depenss on the type of set 2. The hop = weight transfer. Generally when setting the ball you dont wanna use just your hands you wanna make it so you either step through the ball or make your arms follow through enough where its kinda like a hope. I hope i explained the 2nd point well if not ask any questions
Great video Coach Donny! I have very small hands, and sometimes i just set with 2 or 3 fingers (want to do it with 4) making double contact with ball, do you have any advice to avoid double contact? Anyway thank you! Cheers from Chile :)
Wish me luck guys, just found out I'm the setter today at practice and we have 3 back-to-back games tomorrow👍 I've also only been setter once for a team that mostly shanked balls, so I didn't get much practice
My daughter is learning to be a setter, but she's only comfortable setting the ball with her forearms. She said she uses her forearms as it's easier because the other players are hitting the ball erratically, which they do, causing her to have to chase the ball; they're still a young team trying to learn better techniques. I want her to get better at the overhead setting because I think it allows better control of the ball vs. using her forearms, so what can I do to break this habit? Thanks...
NatsuGneel - Osu! Yes.You risk the ball going backwards (out of your control) if it's relaxed especially if it comes fast. You'll want your fingers facing up after the ball leaves your hand

I love your videos so much because here in Philippines volleyball is not quite popular and my body lacks potassium so my streght, speed, and stamina is limited that's why I can't play basketball since I noticed volleyball is not quite popular here and its quite fun and you don't have to use too much of your running speed so I thought maybe I should try playing volleyball that's why I'm watching your videos from now one because they are quite helpful.
In the video you suggest putting your right foot forward, would that be switched if you were facing the opposite direction? or would you just be back setting, not reversing the direction you face?
