    I grinned so hard seeing the Blackwoods/Bracken feud introduced. Barely mentioned them in Game of Thrones.

    I think with the dagger thing the writers of "House of the Dragon" are trying to basically fix what D&D screwed up a little. They can never fix it completely, but by making this dagger so special it does (in retrospect) make it feel at least a bit more momentous that this is the dagger that killed the Night King. Of course, Arya being its wielder will always be extremely stupid as was how it happened. But as far as they could have fixed it, I think this is an attempt to.
    And I also think there's a slight possibility that maybe Blackfyre has a message like this on it in the books. Or maybe Dawn. The dagger does have the writing on it that reflects what Rhaegar says. So I think it's possible that Rhaegar found out about that phrase from maybe some documentation about what an ancestor wrote about the message being on Blackfyre or something.

    loved the foreshadowing when rhaenyra is asked by the old lady if she wants to know how she will die

    To my eyes the relation between daemon and his mistress was that he purposefully brought rhaenyra there, so that they could be seen in public and she (as a trustworthy source according to otto) could spread the news. For some reason he did not go all the way (i think they mentioned something in the after show), but if he did, and rhaenyra “lady status” was questioned and not well received by other lord, that would make his resquest to marry her more plausible thus making him closer to the throne.

      He couldn't get it up (they do mention "his impotence" in the Inside the Episode)

      And yet his plan really seems like a complete failure, if that was really what it was. It's not even the case that it matters whether he did it or not , he could just claim that he did. And he basically kind of does so, by refusing to deny the charge. But what happens? He gets sent away and Rhaenyra gets married off to Laenor while her father sends moon tea to her just in case. If it really was his plan, he clearly misjudged his brother.

    Noble lines do not really die. There will almost always be someone - no matter how far removed from the main branch, that will hold the "title". Yes, even if said person is a beggar, the land and estate has been lost and/or significant time has passed.
    This is why most countries today has a noble organization (in swedish Riddarhuset) with the sole purpose of deciding when a line is considered "dead" and certain rules in order to ensure it (a line must be represented etc).
    So it is fully possible that someone carries the name Mudd with its symbols without being considered noble and with the line still being seen as dead. And if said person is rich, can afford good clothes etc - it doesn´t strike me as impossible that he would be treated as a noble despite not formally being one.
    Edit: also - what are you talking about re "pushing the decandence/porn". There is barely any nudity whatsoever and in those scenes all thrusting is covered up by strategically placed hair, darkness and/or quick camera movement so very little is explicitly shown and the (few) breasts that are shown are either passed by fast, a bit too far away to be seen in detail or hard to see due to poor light. Yes, it might be orgies, sex and nudity happening in the background - but we don´t really SEE anything graphic and those scenes have clearly been shot with the intention to show as little as possible. Very mild content in other words.

    So far, the show has been pretty good.
    Honestly, this episode the only thing that bothered me a bit was that handling the red hot catspaw dagger with bare hands seems to not be the wisest thing to do. But it is canon that show Targaryens are fire resistant, I guess. Though I dimly recall that was a come and go ability.

      Yes, it's something that George says is a miraculous kind of thing. They are not always fireproof, as Dany's brother would find out, and Aerion Brightflame, and Aegon V...

    I thought they were fairly smart about negotiating the differences between Eustace and Mushroom in terms of Rhaenyra (I can see where it is going). I was confused by why they made the duel Bracken v. Blackwood duel deadly (since this was something that happened in the book and is repeated later in life...not sure why they made the changes here...I did not catch that was not Samwell...interesting?). I thought the dagger retcon was just silly. Good stuff as always!

    What do you think will be the catalyst to make Cole join Alicent and the Greens?

      We have a couple of accounts from the chroniclers. I would suggest the events of this episode rules out one of them.

    Maybe Mudd is extinct in the time of Asoiaf , but back in Rhaenyras era Mudd was still there. Perhaps being extinguished by the Dance of the Dragons.

    • @WesterosTV
      @WesterosTV  2 роки тому

      Well, as we say, George told us they were extinct some decades ago when he sent the heraldry for the house. Then he introduced the guys in the Golden company who are using that name, so it's a little unclear to us just what that means.
      On the show, of course they can do as they please, and it doesn't seem to us like a big deal if they decided we really liked this heraldry and just want a Mudd around for some reason in the background.

    Is it possible that George R.R. Martin had something to do with a Blackwood child winning a duel with an older Bracken in the show? He's very involved with the show and he allowed this change as well as the introduction of a Mudd. Is it possible that George wants to foreshadow something with that twist like how he wanted the opening credits to be a nod to blood mages in Old Valyria?

    • @WesterosTV
      @WesterosTV  2 роки тому +2

      Is it said George wanted the blood-related opening? I thought Condal indicated that they came up with the idea later on the show in the writer's room.
      I think George probably had no role in this particular decision, as I can see several reasons why Condal wanted to feature it there and change the results.

    We know that George is the executive producer of this show, so can we consider that if something happens in the show (Like Criston and Rhaenyra’s sex) which is a rumor in “Fire and Blood” is accurate. Or we still don’t know the history written by Gyldayn accurately and just have to guess which rumor is true (maybe none of them). So my point is, is this the real happenings of the lore?

    • @WesterosTV
      @WesterosTV  2 роки тому +1

      George has said that Ryan and Miguel have had to decide how things actually happened, but that said, GRRM and Ryan have been clear that the events of the show are part of the HBO show canon, and the book canon is separate. In many cases, George says he actually doesn't know what "actually" happened in the events he described in Fire and Blood.

    Another solid episode.
    Gonna be critical that they land the time jump. If others are like me, they will have just grown to really like Rhaenyra in the last 2 episodes. This actress only has 1 more episode (I think?)
    The 'inside the episode' stuff for this show is unwatchable, even worse than latter GoT. Don't think I'll be watching it again, they make the show seem more simplistic, and quite frankly, dumber, than it is

    • @WesterosTV
      @WesterosTV  2 роки тому +2

      That's correct, there is a big jump after the next episode. I think people are going to be very impressed however by Emma D'arcy and Olivia Cooke.
      I kind of agree sometimes about the inside the episodes. I really couldn't quite make sense of in particular Miguel's views on interpreting Daemon and Rhaenyra. Ryan and the director don't quite seem to have the same line with him. But then again, Miguel also claims it's been 6 years and this episode they keep saying it's 4 years so he may have just forgotten some aspects of what they were doing when he was brought back in to film these extras.

    Seems to me the biggest change they’ve made from the book is that Cole accepts Rhaenyras advances?? I can’t work out how they’re going to make him switch to greens…unless they make him the father of her brown haired children and cut out the strongs entirely?! No no, I’m getting ahead of myself here…. 🤦🏼‍♀️😄

    • @WesterosTV
      @WesterosTV  2 роки тому +1

      There's a claim later on that Cole revealed his love for Rhaenyra and tried to get her to run away with him, so they're really mixing a few things together.

      Well, I wouldn't quite go that far either, but it was really interesting seeing her on screen in the godswood juxtaposed with her being interviewed in the "Inside the Episode" -- it made me realize a combination of the color grading of the show and makeup means that her features look very smoothed out and "young" in front of the camera, whereas without it or with other lighting and grading she looks more her age.
