    I spotted four Baratheon daughters. There were the three standing next to each other, and the fourth (Aemond’s chosen?) was standing next to Aemond at the other side of the Storm Throne.

    Man, that scene with aemond chasing lucerys sure was terrifying, though it would have been scarier had we seen little glimpses of vhagar flying behind arrax every time a lightning fell, with the outline getting larger and larger with every lightning and then him disappearing and emerging from below.

    The Storm's End chase was perfectly done. It was terrifying, and it filled me with a sense of dread. The bit in which Aemond is speaking High Valyrian displayed the full otherness of Targaryen power I think. Here's this blonde-haired madman riding an engine of destruction, shouting words in an alien language you might not even understand. I also liked how they portrayed Vhagar's movements - menacing, shark-like. That scene was everything I hoped it could be.
    The rest of the episode was OK. Excluding Daemon, the Blacks remain underwritten as characters. Cardboard "good" guys with no flaws. I hope they develop them a little bit more next season.

    Last horror-movie-like scene with Vhagar and Arrax and tension between Aemond and Luke beforehand in Storm's End was just so well done that i almost forgot absolute stupidity of 9th episode and it's ending.. Almost forgot..
    Anyways, great review as always :)

      We have not but I watched a lot of streams and especially read up all I could about the deep lore and main storylines that GRRM was most responsible for. Some really interesting stuff, especially with Ranni.

    Rewatching the Storm's End scene, you can vaguely see Vhaegar lying down behind the wall as Lucerys makes his approach. A nice touch. Too often in TV/Movies they cheat by having something just materialise for the shock value.

    I think war could've been avoided if the greens had sent alicent instead of Otto, she could've given rhaenyra her condolences for visenya and promised to betrothe any future daughter of hers with aegons son, as a sweetener, jaehaera could be betrothed to viserys immediately. This way rhaenyras blood would still get to sit the iron throne one day.

    I am not disliking the changes in this episode. The fact that Lucerys death was unintentional actually changes little (unless they decide to make something with it, but otherwise it is just the trigger that starts the war) and makes Aemond more nuanced and less of a stupid rabid dog and the dragons more dangerous, more unruly and less "dog" like. About Rhaenyra... they really want you to be on her side, so they make her aware of the intrinsic injustice of thousands of peasants dying for a family quarrel. it is very modern thinking in our tradition, which Martin avoids bc it simply doesn't fit the world he portrays, but helps me Rhaenyra more likeable and just. in the books I couldn't side with either of the factions because I always thought about the peasants and small lords who have no choice at all and pay with their lives.
    Anyways, it has been a pleasure watching your bids every week. I am surely going to miss my weekly dose of GOT followed straight up by your analysis. Thanks a lot for your work!

    In the beginning of the season, Viserys says that it is an illusion that they control the dragons, that they are a power man should have never trifled with, and that such things caused the Doom of Valyria. So it seems like they're trying to play up that point here also by showing that the dragons really do act on their own will sometimes. They've also shown the dragons have a deeper mental connection with the riders and feel their injuries and emotions. Maybe Arrax and Vhagar were responding to the inner emotions of Lucerys and Aemond rather than their conscious intent and commands.
    Or maybe Vhagar is an old lady who can't hear well.

    @unvergebeneid Рік тому +8

    Given the unreliable narrator of Fire and Blood, the accidental vs. intentional killing of Prince Lucerys isn't so much a change as it could just be a difference of perspective. Here we see it first-hand, in the book we only hear a retelling of a retelling. And as you said, we don't yet know which version Aemond is going to present to whom when he comes back.

    • @WesterosTV
      @WesterosTV  Рік тому +3

      I think his saying that he's kill him, which is very notably missing in the scene on the show, is important to understanding the difference.

      Doesn’t matter his loony brother will hail him as a hero and a champion of the realm. Of all the death I seen in GOt an HOd this one got me in the feels. Poor kid who didn’t want anything to do with this, as most of the kids in this show, gets chomped and and probably drops thousands of feet. Horrific.

    I think it's possible Aemond was warned not to draw first blood in the war so that the Greens could portray the Blacks in the negative light they want -- because then various Houses will have the murder as an excuse to flock to the Blacks. So Aemond is perhaps just concerned he's made it much more difficult for the Greens, rather than regret at Luke's death.

    That was a good episode despite I was expecting it to have the same problems episode 9 have, after reading Sara heiss interview last week with all the things she said regarding the writing of the characters and the events such as :
    1) coming up suddenly with the idea of rhaenys appear on the dragon without thinking if that logical thing to happen or not and its consequences on future events ( cause meleys broke through what looks like to be a very thick rocks, isn't this how dreamfyre die during the storming of the dragon pit ??) In addition to her thinking that in the world of game of thrones common people don't matter ( again the storming of the dragon pit ??!!!!! )
    2 ) her saying that she's not believing what was written in the books about women being fat or evil or cruel . And she's gonna change that because women must be the voice of reason and they can't be evil or have ambition and desires for power and vengeance which we can see clearly in the last two episodes.
    3) her plain hatred to daemon's character and seeing him as never been a good husband, father or a brother!! Even saying that daemon crowning viserys wasn't out of love and respect for his brother but a self serving for his benefits. And that they are writing the season 2 now and will change his relationship with rhaenyra, I think we see a bit of it in that episode with the chocking because what's a shorter way to make audience hate a character but violence against women. i can expect the daemon character next season with more abuse to rhaenyra, ignoring to his children, full on mode of cheating with misery, nettles and so many women, I would go to say he won't send blood and cheese but will go himself kill aegon's child with his own hands with cold blood as to make sure fans see him as the only villain in this show while all the other characters being morally grey and women are being written as good wise humans only . Cause God forbid fans loves a complex character like daemon and being fan favorite because of actor's acting and the character itself being well written by grrm but no we must all hate him now and see him as the writer does since they deleted all the scenes of him showing emotions and hugging his daughters after losing their mother and keep only bad traits and add being abusive to his family so he can only be one dimensional evil character.
    I thought after so many fans got angry about this interview and the changes she's gonna make on characters and the story because of gender bias and her own preference, that HBO may take that into consideration as not to repeat the same mistakes with the writers but noo they renewed her contract in season 2 . So she's there and gonna see all that great interesting takes on the story, I would say we gonna see her own fanfiction of the dance of the dragons which I don't know if I am gonna like to watch since as a viewer and a reader I don't like to be directed to whom should I love or hate from the characters or whom to root for according to the writer liking also I can't respect a writer destroys a character he / she wrote himself after it becoming favorite by the fans and viewers and trying so hard to make it bad and hated then claiming that it's the viewers who thought the characters are a good people when no one claimed so, they loved this characters and favored them for being complex and grey characters and they can understand very well when the writer is whitewashing or villainizing a character that is suppose to be both dark and light .

    Overall I thought it was a very solid show, In many ways It has better writing than GoT and that's great to see, (based on the tv shows, I haven't read any of the books). The biggest issue for me though was that it became a bit monotonous with its stories and characters, and felt more like a mafia show rather than epic fantasy, i.e politics with murder. The dragons are more like weapons rather than living creatures we get to know and gauge their quirks and temperaments, though I suppose we saw a bit of that in this ep.
    Even though GoT was more clumsy and had some really dumb writing at times, the multifaceted spectacle of the drama arcs and diversity of character motivations/agendas made it more exciting, especially seeing the more overt fantasy elements collide and juxtapose with the traditional throne room politicking which was happening just as well as HotD. I get that its a different story however, more insular and focused on a single event, and perhaps that works better for the TV medium, but I do miss the crazy scope and sense of wonder that GoT had in its earlier seasons.
