This is my all-time favourite Double Dragon game. I enjoyed the arcade and NES ones, but this was superior to me in the graphics, the game flow, the expanded fight moves, weapons, the backgrounds, and music. It's a damn shame they only made one of these for SNES/Famicom, I would have loved to play a series like this.
I'm glad to have played this game. Return of Double Dragon (or Super Double Dragon) was and always will be a much better game that Double Dragon III ever will be.
I loved this game, I beat it first time I played it first try, I loved Billy's catch kicks and punches, cocky Bastard. But hey he was a seasoned street fighter at this point, I think he was showing his superiority over the Shadow Warriors, demonstrating power and control.
Also for those who don't know, press down and kick button and Billy will deliver a devastating double kick that instantly stuns even a boss, and press forward and kick while the opponent is stunned and he delivers a sidekick. Try it if you still have the game.
I remember when I was kid and played it for the first time, before I used to play double dragon 1, 2 and 3 NES, then when I got my SNES I was shocked with the soundtrack graphics, colors what a improvement, despite my favorite versions is DD 1 and 2 from the Arcade
I thought I would prefer it too, but for some reason I like the American arrangement better. The music at the beginning of duke's palace is the truck music in the american one and that's how I like it. I also prefer the American Chinatown music. but I will say they did save the best for last at least. I don't like the new songs at all.
Super Double Dragon music line up is better. Only thing I dig about return is the last level music and stage is like the original. Ending still sucks for both, return not worth playing at all
I preordered the rerelease of this on SNES. Stopped by this video to check out the difference in gameplay from Super Double Dragon. Stoked about the spin kick hitting multiple times. Can't wait till it comes in the mail
I have played this game before. But looking at the gameplay, I don't remember Jimmy's style being so different from Billy. I could be wrong, but I thought that their styles were supposed to be the same. Then again this is a different version of the game I played. Just noticing the slight difference
Shamgod1987 , the music isn't any different from the US/NA and EU ports of the game, rather, they merely play in a different order than the US/NA and EU ports of the game.
+Pax Humana Well, the music for the 1st and 3rd stages weren't in the US version. Other than that is was a music shuffle except for stages 2 and 6, which were the same as the US version, and the song for US stage 7/title screen which wasn't in this version at all.
Best Double Dragon game of all time. Imagine this was out for PS4 or 5 and it has a sort of Batman Arkham Knight/Power Stone like Fighting System but more Kung Fu based. That will be awesome.
WIsh they'd bring this to the Switch. One of my favorite fighting games on the SNES. Didn't realize you could change the music in the game. Oh...I see it's being released on Switch on the 8th. I just pre-ordered it.
Hey arronmunroe, I've been looking for Return of Double Dragon footage, would you mind if I have permission to use this in a Double Dragon retrospective I'm working on?
Without a doubt, this is the most polished version of the game. Too bad we didn't get this version instead of the Super Double Dragon one. And while this game wasn't officially titled "Double Dragon 4", its technically the fourth game in the series. So I guess to us fans, it could be considered "Double Dragon 4".
This is actually the Japanese version. I know in the US version, different songs are used for different levels, but I think it uses all the same songs.
@@arronmunroe thank you for the reply. Strangely I cant recall this song from the first level. I finished the game countless times with my brother back then 😄
Isn't there an ending for the Japanese version of the game? I do know the hurricane kick is different in the Japanese version (it hits multiple times).
The only thing that was disappointing about this game aside from the final boss fight which lasts for an eternity, is the ending. All you get is a black screen with text. And that's it. Honestly, I was expecting something more like a cut scene. But oh well.
Would´ve been nice to getting an intro cutscene as well, seeing the girlfriend being carried away by a clown and a couple of thugs would've been enough. Its a shame, I heard the game was rushed though.
RDD has a mayor issue, the hurricane kick is broken, you can avoid and charge the bar and kill normal enemies through the game without much problem. In SDD is 1 hit, so you can´t do that, developers knew this and make that crucial change. Final level, weapons and arranged music are better in RDD, but for the reason I mentioned I prefer SDD.
arronmunroe But, you can download unofficial version of it to your PC) And yes, there is no multiplayer mode, so if you want to play it with someone, then you need to ask your friends come over to your house to play in DD4 on your PC) I know that it's on consoles too, but i'm PC gamer, so that's why i'm talking about PC version. And, i'm not asking you to do it right now. It's yours channel so it's your choice, when to make that video about new Double Dragon 4)
i play this game on snesfun.com but i would like to play with the pink men alson but i can't, what button i have to press on my keypad or what mode player should i try so i could play with the pink men?
That's not how it works. He is meant to be controlled by a second controller, used by a second person. If you don't have anyone to play the game with you, then you won't be able to play as him.
Amigo, bateu uma saudade de um certo jogo do Super Nintendo. Pode ser jogado de 2 players, o objetivo era salvar uns pequenos bixos vermelhos e na maioria das vezes matar os azuis, o recurso disponível era colocar blocos,
There's a rom hack that restores the U.S. soundtrack arrangement but fixes the title screen so it plays the actual Double Dragon theme like the Japan version... I prefer the U.S. arrangement over this... those two new songs in Mission 1 and 3 are garbage.
The song you're thinking of is at 16:56. Super Double Dragon, which you're thinking of, has a few changes from the Japanese version, including which stage has that song.
This is a game I played with my late best friend in the 1990s ! We dominated this game and the memories will never die. RIP Jebbs!
Sad to hear.
Sorry to hear that, i have memories playing this with my brother growing up. Its good to have memories of
God bless your friend, you will beat 'em up again together, but not today (Y)

Exactly. When I was a kid, a friend borrowed it to me, and it lasted weeks to finish! Pretty hard game.
I play this with my sister when we're Youngs the best memory's of my childhood thank you double dragon 🐉
this is the best double dragon game. I wish they made a sequel for it.
It sucks that the series died out soon after this
There's actually a dd4 and the arcade version of dd1

...Why, 'Cause I MISS It & I WANT It.
You can probably get an emulator for NES system and play it on PC.
THAT'S IT???!!!
SweeTC2847 Yup.
I'm glad to have played this game. Return of Double Dragon (or Super Double Dragon) was and always will be a much better game that Double Dragon III ever will be.
No doubt. Plus Super Double Dragon music was superb. I also loved they had emphasis on the voice overs whenever they do a huge critical hit.
i hated double dragon III, it sucks... Double Dragon II instead was so good.. still playing it
By far.
I loved this game, I beat it first time I played it first try, I loved Billy's catch kicks and punches, cocky Bastard. But hey he was a seasoned street fighter at this point, I think he was showing his superiority over the Shadow Warriors, demonstrating power and control.

That kick was my favourite move.

16:55 Listen with a good pair of Stereo speakers and a Subwoofer. This track kicks major ass. I would of seriously bought a song like this.
41:17 go Billy and Jimmy.
the hurricane kick will never get old.
U Read MY MIND!!!!
And, If I remember correctly, it hits one time, and here, hits 3 or 4 times. Also, music changed. Version, maybe?
I played this amazing game with my brother (13 and 11 YO at the time), long time ago. Great memories kicking heads and butts :)
I preferred the Japanese version because the music was arranged differently
And the Hurricane Kick actually kicked more. Plus, there are some settings. Mission 7 has a room with the final battle, and it's longer.
I thought I would prefer it too, but for some reason I like the American arrangement better. The music at the beginning of duke's palace is the truck music in the american one and that's how I like it. I also prefer the American Chinatown music. but I will say they did save the best for last at least. I don't like the new songs at all.
si esta mejor
I prefer the Japanese version too. The stage themes make more sense and overall it feels more complete. The Casino theme in Return is PERFECT!
I do too. The kicks is also way more better when you do the superkick. Which is kind of not as good in Super Double Dragon original version
Those enemies at the beginning look like Blanka with Nash/Charlie's outfit.
Williams
I'd be surprised if they had this for the Nintendo Switch
Xander j Fox-Agron god I’d love it if they did
I remember playing this game when I was a kid! Fun childhood memories!
Awesome. Great game. Just wish that the ending was a lot better. Hail Double Dragon.
This particular version didn't even have an "ending" per say. The North American version sort of did, even if it was nothing but a bit of text though.
Mission 7 music was fire
I played this game a lot, it was one of the best of the season.
Super Double Dragon music line up is better. Only thing I dig about return is the last level music and stage is like the original. Ending still sucks for both, return not worth playing at all
Then you might wanna give this a shot instead:

I'm so retro. Still have my SNES and I still play Super Double Dragon. My ten year old son is Billy and I'm Jimmy.
low and high kick was the go to move, the memories as a kid

This Double Dragon had the best controls n combos and ost wish they remake this
loved this game growing up. of play with my dad cause he needed a second player
That's a great memory!
this is the Japanese version right? the music is different.
Shamgod1987 That's right, it's the Japanese version.
Shamgod1987 , the music isn't any different from the US/NA and EU ports of the game, rather, they merely play in a different order than the US/NA and EU ports of the game.
+Stillmatic7331 I was thinking the same thing. Some parts of the rationalization of video games I'll never quite get.
+Pax Humana Well, the music for the 1st and 3rd stages weren't in the US version. Other than that is was a music shuffle except for stages 2 and 6, which were the same as the US version, and the song for US stage 7/title screen which wasn't in this version at all.
anatnis , the game is still an incomplete mess, regardless of WHICH side of the Pacific Ocean that you are on anyway.
Would be cool to see Billy Lee and Jimmy Lee in Fighting EX Layer, Tekken 7, and Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
Yes for Super Smash Bros Ultimate!
Best Double Dragon game of all time. Imagine this was out for PS4 or 5 and it has a sort of Batman Arkham Knight/Power Stone like Fighting System but more Kung Fu based. That will be awesome.
This is the particular version I wish we had. The Japanese version is a bit more polished and is longer.

Didn't think that was possible as player 1, unless there's some Game Genie code out there that does it.
A reboot of this game, but with the same content would be a great idea for the current systems.
fkn awesome....that hurricane kick was the shit....imagine if they remade it today
Isn't there an ending for the Japanese version of the game? I do know the hurricane kick is different in the Japanese version (it hits multiple times).
It's the American version, Super Double Dragon, that actually has an ending, although it's just some text explaining what happened.
Jimmy is kicking ass the whole time Billy is trying to power up that dumb ass kick....the arm grab and kicks to the face is the best
I'd LOOOVE To SEE a CROSSOVER Game Between DOUBLE DRAGON & STREETS OF RAGE!!!!!

One of the best game ever in this series. By the way I have a question why some of this version in this game have a less soundtrack than this version.

The tracks feel misplaced from what suited the US version.
Tatsumaki Senpukyaku was named after Twin Kick.
