Almost every or maybe even all devices that are newly released don't support microSD or expandable storage. Every brand pretty much takes this as a trend nowadays with their new products, promoting Cloud Storage over that.
so you can research every recently released device and you'll see that they don't have expandable storage at all, it's also since most devices nowadays reach up to 1 TB of storage. Take the Samsung S24 Ultra for example
Absolutely. No microsd is a deal-breaker. Thank goodness I watched this -- I probably would have assumed it has one when I pull the trigger in the Spring. 2023 is easier on my bank account anyway, and reviews point to it playing all retro games

Reviewing my benchmarking footage the 2023 lost 12% in 30 minutes and the 2025 lost 13% in 30 minutes. Which to me is close enough to call it a tie. That would mean about 4 hours battery under maximum load. In the real world probably a good amount more since that is just during benchmark peak performance.
Lenovo will downgrade and not mention it anywhere until you get it, ordered a laptop and noticed they downgraded multiple places from the 2022-23 versions.
I love the compact form factor, it's the only alternative to the ipad mini, I mean if you want a compact tablet but with high tech spec on android, the Y700 it's the only choice. But the price is really quite steep, looked on aliexpress and I saw it at 531€, that's way too high, you can get the One Plus Pad 2 which has a the same chipset and ram for less and they offer the stylus and earbuds with it, alright it's not compact like the Y700 but when it comes to the value it's way better.
the thing that holds me back is lenovo's very very bad track record for pushing out updates. with apple, samsung, etc companies pushing out regular updates, it isn't something lenovo seems to value. as a customer, this is extremely important. any company can push the best hardware inside a device... only some companies push out meaningful updates monthly. it's one of the reasons I usually buy samsung tabs.... samsung also still has microSD card expansion....
The 2023 global version got 1 android version update (13 to 14), and Security maintenance is advertised until 02/2028. I'm not 100% sure how the CN versions pan out.
I mean, there's always going to be something better. 8 Elite will have some better performance, but I don't know what I'd do on the tablet that really needs more performance than the 8g3 shows off.
I dont mind the no sd card. It does support external usbc ssds, which id use to manage an external library and pop things into the onboard as i feel like. Flash memory is so far beyond what sd cards are capable of in matters of r/w, stability, and filesystem access. (Have you tried managing mass media on an sd card? It sucks.)
I think that's mostly going to come down to size preference. The Y700 is much easier to hold and fits in some telescoping controllers, whereas the Nova will be too big for those controllers.
It is the Gamesir G8. It has to be modded to fit. You can use the G8+ (Bluetooth) or the Abxylute S9 (USB-C) if you want a controller that fits without any mods.
@bassderek it's just a cynical way to up-sell you the 512GB model, which by the way, probably won't even be officially released outside of the Asian market. In what World do they think a lousy 256GB of non expandable storage is enough, going into 2025? My emulation filled SD Card has over 800GB of files on it. Having an SD card slot would cost them peanuts to include but they just couldn't resist the opportunity to go for the up-sell rip off.
@Dr.D00p is not really a deal breaker to me. The sd card slot would be nice, but I'm gonna have hundreds or thousands of games on my device for what? To play a hand full of them at a time? It takes me weeks to beat one game. Portable ssd put the few games you are playing and some casual stuff and call it a day. That's how I see it anyway.
Lenovo- Hey I have an idea. Let's make a gaming tablet and remove the sdcard slot that most will actually use and instead add a rear camera that almost nobody will use.
It’s the 2024 my guy. 2024 is the Chinese year of the dragon, just like the 2022 model had a tiger to commemorate the year of the tiger and the 2023 had a rabbit to commemorate the year of the rabbit.
the things i don't really like about chinese made tablet is it's always neither here nor there - most uses LCD screen (top quality screen) / lack of sim support/ lack of microsd support/ miserable software support/ wierd sale region ( example xiaomi pad pro - its 5G version is available in singapore & malaysia but not available in thailand where its only wifi ) it's frustrating when companies have this kind sale tactics. / weird screen aspect.
Getting pretty sick of manufactures removing the SD card slot on new devices. No reason on a tablet, you're not saving space for anything additional here.
It definitely loses performance in a sustained high load situation since there isn’t active cooling. But I don’t know if I would call it overheating, it’s just a normal behavior for tablets and phones.
@@bassderek thanks for the reply, that's good to know, I just ordered a y700 2025 model that just came out, last question ( daft question maybe ) I bought it from the UK store as I live in the UK, would you happen to know if it will come with a global rom, official play store etc? never bought anything from Lenovo so skeptical.

I haven’t, started running out of space installing so many gacha games 🤣
Does it come with a SIM card slot?
Nope
How’s the screen compared to oled?
It has pretty rich colors and is very crisp. Of course it won’t get the deep blacks of OLED.
how about this one vs Redmagic Nova Gaming?? Great video!!
I think that's mostly going to come down to size preference. The Y700 is much easier to hold and fits in some telescoping controllers, whereas the Nova will be too big for those controllers.
@@bassderek I see, thanks for u respond. Now, how about in terms of its components?
LCD or OLED?
The screen is IPS LCD
Can you confirm is there really usb 3.2 gen 2? Reading somewhere it says 3.1 gen 2
It looks like I misspoke, 3.1 Gen 2 appears to be correct.
@bassderek Okay thank you. 👍🏼
babe, new bassderek video just dropped
😂 right? Let's go! 🤘🏼🔥
One thing that I didn't like it comes with LCD
does anyone know whats the gamepad he's using in the video ?
like is it good one ?
It is the Gamesir G8. It has to be modded to fit. You can use the G8+ (Bluetooth) or the Abxylute S9 (USB-C) if you want a controller that fits without any mods.
Gets to 2.58 and learns there is no SD card expanson. The product is of no further interest to me, and i stop watching the video.
🤣 Totally fair. I almost didn’t pick this one up for review at all I was so bummed about that.
Can you play steam games and Google play games?
You can play Google play games. You can stream Steam games from a pc in the same house, but it doesn’t play them natively.
Does it have bypass charging?
Yes there is a setting to limit to 60% charge
compare with ipad mini 7 ya?
Dont have one, sorry!
Year of the Dragon, it's gotta be 2024
That would make sense, huh. Everywhere I've looked it's called the 2025 though.
Does it have a sim port?
No
Does it support e-sim?
I don't believe so.
is the 2023 better or this one ?
Check out my comparison video! ua-cam.com/video/y1B7Ai0twpo/v-deo.html
Lenovo- Hey I have an idea. Let's make a gaming tablet and remove the sdcard slot that most will actually use and instead add a rear camera that almost nobody will use.
💀
Why i cant buy it in amazon usa ?
Unfortunately there is no US or Worldwide distribution yet, you have to buy it from China.
sir hope you include warzone and pubg mobile nextime, thank for the review❤️❤️❤️
does this have sim slot?
No
It’s the 2024 my guy. 2024 is the Chinese year of the dragon, just like the 2022 model had a tiger to commemorate the year of the tiger and the 2023 had a rabbit to commemorate the year of the rabbit.
Too expensive and no sd card slot kills this tablet for me. 2023 runs great and is a great deal.
can i buy this in the US?
You can buy it from AliExpress or Giztop from China to be delivered to US, but not directly from a US store.
Thanks for the video. I've decided not to purchase the 2024 tablet; I'll go for the 2023 model instead because it supports micro SD.
Still a great tablet and enough performance for most things. It was my daily for a while. I’m still debating which one I’ll keep.
the things i don't really like about chinese made tablet is it's always neither here nor there - most uses LCD screen (top quality screen) / lack of sim support/ lack of microsd support/ miserable software support/ wierd sale region ( example xiaomi pad pro - its 5G version is available in singapore & malaysia but not available in thailand where its only wifi ) it's frustrating when companies have this kind sale tactics. / weird screen aspect.
I like the 16:10 aspect ratio personally. But yea the worldwide distribution is poor.
Getting pretty sick of manufactures removing the SD card slot on new devices. No reason on a tablet, you're not saving space for anything additional here.
$$$
I want a gaming tablet with phone function... I don't really need phone.
No sim support here, sorry!
@bassderek thats what I am waiting for a handy tablet.
No external sd card?
Sadly no, removed on this version.
@@bassderek thats a big no for me. Id like my ROMs installed in the external sd card.
does it overheat?
It definitely loses performance in a sustained high load situation since there isn’t active cooling. But I don’t know if I would call it overheating, it’s just a normal behavior for tablets and phones.
@@bassderek thanks for the reply, that's good to know, I just ordered a y700 2025 model that just came out, last question ( daft question maybe ) I bought it from the UK store as I live in the UK, would you happen to know if it will come with a global rom, official play store etc? never bought anything from Lenovo so skeptical.
no sd card isn't a big deal if the base model has 256GB, but no headphone jack on a gaming device? nah miss me with that shit
Indeed...
Awesome video...
However, No MicroSD-Card support... is a straight stay on the shelf...
This is too limited for those focus gamers with large library...
Contenders: 8+" Tablet
Android:
Legion Y700 2023 + MicroSD-Card Support
ALLDOCUBE iPlay60 Turbo snapdragon 6 gen 1 ( little hyper rabbit making wave at the moment... )
ALLDOCUBE iPlay60 Pro G99 MK cpu...
HeadWolf Fpad5 G99 Mk cpu...
ios:
Ipad mini 6 or 7... ( same "No MicroSD-Card support)
Yeah, it's a huge bummer. The 2023 version is probably a better buy for many people. I did see the new Alldocube Turbo rumor, which will hopefully be a budget king.
@bassderek Indeed...
But I noticed on ALIEXPRESS...
A merchand post the:
Legion Y700-2023 Global version 16gb ram / 512gb internal storage for $188... Sadly, when I try to purchase it was sold out...
The iPad Mini still has the same bad LCD display
Ah yeah, sorry I misspoke
Wait til they make LENOVO Y700 2025 1tb with no charging port, Bluetooth and wifi🫠
Maybe you’ll need to pay a subscription service for those features. 😱
@bassderek they're always downgrading the series🤦🏻♂️
without micro sd card, there's no (convenient) way to share my roms/config with other android devices, basically making this useless
It's definitely a pain. The storage is almost full on this one as I'm testing it, already.
No biggie with cell service😢
Boom no SDCard slot @ETA PRIME.
Use usb stick
👍👍👍
Mine 2023 version with fake global Rom😭
I think you can flash it back to CN or EU Lenovo rom? Check guides on XDA Developers Forums.
How's the contrast and colors? The blacks look really good in the video. Are the colors similar or better than 2023 version?
I would say they are similar. The display can get dimmer. I think that as far as IPS panels go they are both very good. Of course it won't get inky oled blacks, but the colors punch and it's very detailed.
Pls check next time wild rift, it is really demanding 😢
I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad at MOBAs
@ hehe just to check fps
"2025" Idk if this UA-camr was dropped on his head as a kid but its 2024 there for its not the 2025 version
Dang dog. It’s marketed as 2025 all over the place.
No micro sd slot = TRASH!
This seems to be a divisive point for this device.
Gaming tablet without SD Card slot 😅
I know... Worst part about this tablet for sure.
I will skip this year model because of no SD
No microsd... I can stop considering this tablet right there. Thanks.
no SD card on a "gaming" first device is bs
