Eating a few candy coated fennel seeds after a meal is part of Indian cuisine. There are so many traditional cuisines that use fennel and have a long history of knowledge about healthy eating that has somehow been forgotten here in North America. Consider eating Lebanese, Indian, Italian (true Italian not American versions) and discover how healthy you feel. Especially Lebanese food…Amazing culinary wisdom.

I got some ginger capsules that have about 1200 mg of ginger in them each and if I take one several times a day it's a little discomforting and can feel like a burning sensation. I found some tablets that are chewable ginger that are 500 mg I think and those are actually pretty good and don't seem to cause any discomfort for me. Fennel seeds do NOT ease sore throat or itchiness on the throat. It's the opposite. They promote mucus and hence if you consume them when you have cold, it worsens the condition. I consumed them daily in a good quantity for 13 yrs and it had become an addiction. Fennel seeds mimic estrogen so it can cause complications in female reproductive system and hormonal imbalance, it can increase the size of fibroids too. I finally gave it up for good. A small quantity may be okay but long term use is not.

@@marie-joelleraussou Actually some women may have high estrogen as compared to progesterone during or after menopause. But if you know for sure that your estrogen is low or your gynaecologist can confirm that, then it's okay to consume it instead of taking hormones pills. My skin was amazing for all the years I consumed fennel seeds but I started getting other health issues with it so I stopped. If someone likes the taste, 1 teaspoon is still okay to consume daily. But I guess we should give a gap of a few weeks every 2-3 months or so of regular consumption. If we don't give a gap, the chewed seeds are a burden for the liver to clean out.

It's a normal thing in india to consume fennel seeds after any meal like having a liquor, in india you get sugar coated fennel seeds ,mint sugar coated fennel seeds ,you could also combine half a teaspoon of fennel seeds with rock sugar .....good combination after every meal - it will take away the food smell and the lingering taste in the mouth ,it refreshes your mouth with aromatic breath - same time the juices helps in fast digestion n bloating.
