100000 percent agree. You can thank Lars and James for the awful mix on Justice. A tragic lost opportunity for what could have been the best metal album ever IMO.
I agree as well. It took a long time for this album to grow on me and that’s mostly because there’s no fuckin bass present. But after playing with the EQ on my stereo I got as close to a decent mix possible and realized that this is a badass album. Doesn’t have the charm of Master of Puppets or Ride The Lightning but I think that’s also part of the appeal of And Justice For All. It just hits you harder and is way less forgiving than the other albums. Still not my favorite Metallica album but a really solid set of songs to play live, because the album mix stinks lol 😆
And that's the catch 22. If you want to make real metal, you have to settle for less budget and lower grade production value, and if you want the big budget, huge studio sound, you gotta sell out to get it, and well, once you do that, you're not making metal albums anymore.

I'm happy for Metallica, but "justice" was my favorite album by them. When I heard the black album I felt like they went in a different direction and I didn't like it as much. But I am truly happy for them, the black album was a break through for their popularity. That being said I can listen to the first 3 albums on repeat and never get sick of them. Thanks for the video!

Also, their first headlining stadium tour wasn’t until 1988 for …And Justice For All. They were still an opening act for Master Of Puppets. They opened for Ozzy on that tour. They may have headlined clubs up until that point but that’s a smaller circuit and should not be confused for full blown Headlining Stadium Tours. That didn’t happen until 1988.

Not in the key of E. The guitar was in E standard tuning. They tuned guitars to D standard tuning for Sad But True. Key of a song and tuning are not the same thing.
I would bet that was specifically at that time shortly after the tour and during black album preproduction. I’m pretty sure he’s backed off that feeling since. At least somewhat. I’ve seen them play many of those justice songs in full in the 2000’s/2010’s, and I’m sure he’s found a way to enjoy them once again.
But I know what you mean, though. It is a little crushing to think that a band would hate their most progressive and impressively written material. That would be like finding out Danny Carey hated Lataralus.

Great album, I love And Justice For All but agree with James. Sounds shite and some songs are too long like the title track is so god-damn boring. He really upped his vocal abilities on the Black album, very powerful singing on some tunes.

I have never been more disappointed to listen to an Album than when I was an excited 16 year old listening to Load for the first time. I take that back. St Anger was even a bigger let down. Load has since grown on me slightly. I like Outlaw Torn and Bleeding Me but the album overall doesn’t get played. St Anger and Reload are still 100 percent trash in my opinion.

Load has since grown on me slightly. I like Outlaw Torn and Bleeding Me but the album overall doesn’t get played.
St Anger and Reload are still 100 percent trash in my opinion.
