Lars - vlogging back in 1989.
Martin Simeonov lol the first vlogger
Hey man, he foresaw that that was the future of entertainment in 30 years. He just put out the template it.
im gootd Metal....is wuer watds Narcis
Internet is just a new support to do what we did in the 80's !
While drunk. epic!
Most of these people still work for Metallica.
Can you blame them? Metallica's probably still good to their employees, thus they created some sort of loyalty. And that's awesome!
Yeah they were there during Cunning Stunts (1997) too
The Metallica family !!!!
@@salembeats1875 the original Metallica Family lol
1:34 Damn Jason kinda looked like Cliff for a second there
Holy shit you’re right Jason looked like how Cliff performed for a short while
I thought same thing,how funny
He looks like a combination of Dave Mustaine and Cliff Burton.
That’s the spirit of Cliff in Jason
even when you got a glimpse of his face it looked like cliff, thats so crazy, i think cliff was there with them in that moment
Lars was vlogging before it was cool, the ultimate hipster movement
yeah, it was called documentary footage before vlogging genius
Bo Hunter Damn who hurt you? lmao

1:02:43 awesome performance by Kirk
He was on fire 88-89 every other era of his is sloppy live compared
At the end of this tour, James didn’t realize he had several million dollars. True story!
How do you know
The true story happened during the Puppets Tour. There they were told by the management that everyone of them made enough money to buy a house now...during Justice everyone of them was pretty clear about the reality they are millionaires now.
@@michaelastockbauer672 so how about Black Album
@@stevenbaksh5545 They all knew how much money they had then.

33:00 Lars: “Writing Escape Part 2”
James: ...
"we're doing the Escape video" LMAO
wow I would've killed for some of this footage in high school
If had this in 80-90s, I would sell snapshot posters to all metalheads in my town and become another Metallica millionaire lol.
Same here. God watched year and a half and live shit about 10 times.. every week.
@Nintariz I feel the complete opposite. Normally all you hear about are rumors of what happens off stage. I think find it fascinating to watch them just being normal people. Lars is acting like a twelve year old who got ahold of his dad's camcorder. I love it.
I have seen so many live performances from Metallica that I actually preferred the backstage stuff in this video. I even skipped through some of the songs to get to behind the scenes footage.
Artstar2 me too. Historical footage
Same
A lot of us did!
Maybe spend more time on other things?
We all did
guys started making some real money, lars got him self cool gadget (camcorders were hot at that time), enjoying it, just touring, playing music and having fun. thats life!!!
As far as money goes, Lars kind of grew up with some money it wasnt new to him
And taking real good care of the road crew as well.
this is a very different kind of life to the ones we lead
James Hetfield with a Mullet haircut is the world I want to live in.
this is 4 years before the ULTAMULLET
And trucker stache
By far their best tour and them at their peak musically, technically and most brutal/heavy.
mediiskit i understand your comment. But it's just a Burton memorial comment. Damaged Justice was much better than the Puppets Tour! They WERE at their peak musically, technically and most brutal and Heavy. Without a doubt.
Michaela Stockbauer at their age now they still shit on try hard bands and still tour harder than any so called metal band to this day.....and for all the dickbags who disliked this video are obviously Elton John fans...
Nothing wrong with elton @@richardz1637
@@richardz1637 you are a disgrace to speak of Elton John like that. You clearly don’t know shit about music mate. Cheers

33:32 OMG those glasses !
James playing with a Misfits RC car is the most James thing ever. Also, I never thought I would see Jason playing one of James' explorers, that was epic.
14:22 This is probably the best footage I've seen metallica playing Eye of the Beholder

Live captured footage of the greatest four at their peak. The speed, and ferocity of Metallica in 89’ was on another level.
God, listen to how James used to sing Harvester of Sorrow in the first show (Sept 1988). He would spit out the words with such venom and complete anger with ZERO desire to actually sing and be a pop star. Every single word was filled with hate and disgust. He was such a monster back then. I miss that attitude and that pure aggression. Also 1988 was less of a bark and more of a caged animal who wanted to lash out at the audience. 1989 was more controlled and and a bit deeper, but still extremely aggressive.
The desire to actually sing is a good desire. I am glad he got to that part of his career. Every stage of Metallica makes sense, regardless of personal taste. As for pop stars, they never wanted to be, otherwise they would have. Not that hard for them.
Dan Maler
The European tour in ‘88 was probably
their best tour ever. ✌️
I mean sure James would love to still sing like this, but he can’t. He’s almost 60
@Dan Maler - completely agree. Also for the record, fuck Bob Rock. Personally I feel like he poisoned Hetfield's vocal presence.
He blew his voice out during the black album tour; that's why he doesn't scream much during their shows. Plus the guys almost 60 lol...it's not like he can keep that up forever
These guys have been crushing it for almost 40 years.
1:20:00 - Ladies & Gentlemen, I bring you Mini Hetfield standing next to Will Ferrell wearing a yellow jacket!
Jason Tomic what the actual fuck lmao James wearing megadeth and will looking like Ron burgundy
Metallica has always been great. But this was their greatest era!
intraVRt nothing after Justice has been great...nothing...case in point?...Lulu....

HAHAHAHA
Video recording is amazing - to capture this footage and be able to view it at one's convenience over 30 years later. To fans at the time, this footage would have been as valuable as gold.
7:51 "welcome back TO my Channel"
Wow this is a gold mine for me. My first concert was Metallica and The Cult on 7/28/89 and I still have my shirt from that show too. Like a time capsule seeing footage from a few days before and after my first of many Metallica shows. Thanks for posting this!
i saw a show when they did that tour in bristol CT.........i can tell your genuine so many liars in these comments saying i miss those days and then get all critical about them being different if someone is old enough to miss that era they would understand why and not even get critical.....i didnt like the black album or anything after but i know how it works
@@gristams3439 I discovered Metallica with the "one" video on MTV. Saw the video and was like, wow I've never heard a guitar tone like that ever. The "Johnny Got his Gun" footage was different and interesting too. Went out and bought the ADJFA cassette tape and when I put the tape in and Blackened kicked off the album, my head exploded. That was so different than anything I had ever heard before. Wore that tape out, couldn't even read the song names on it. Saw them the next year in July 89 and had bought the first 3 albums to get more of a fix. I have not looked back since. Black Album was a game changer. I never understood the haters. It was an album that had amazing grooves, killer tone, and more people were introduced and dug the band I already loved. Just gave me more people to share my experience with and introduce them to the "older" stuff like AJFA. Got to meet James and Jason on the Load tour and have had so many cool Metallica experiences since 1988 that I can't even keep track.
me and my brothers were listening to stuff like the misfits and DK before i even heard of them and i when i did(ride the lightning) i was like wow its the same kind of music but with much better guitar playerrs. but black album just wasnt my style i wasnt a hater or anything if they sold out it wouldve had love songs and shit. i havent even listened to metal in years i got more into hippie music but lately i been revisiting old favotites
Look at the Lars dude! That is one happy kid...
As a stagehand. seeing him drop the beer from the rafters gives me shivers. Dropping anything from the roof is cardinal sin in this industry.
Instant Thumbs Up for "Eye of the Beholder" alone.
It's amazing that the drum sound (specially the bass drum) in these old recordings sounds better than the drum sound in recent videos they upload, which most of them you can't really hear the bass drum
February 5th, 1989. Dallas. I was at that show. Thank you so much for posting this. Brought back so many memories.
You're so lucky. I was only 9.
That remote control truck is the highlight of the Justice tour, not questions asked
1:32:40 Lars getting that thumbnail!!

Usually everyone says Seattle or Canada, but this right here is craziest highest kicks and snare and tempo I've ever heard from lars, never so audible double kicks! Also a rare song preformance.
For some reason Metallica interviews and home videos are calming to me mostly justice and black album era upload more black album stuff ::
When Metallica ruled the fucking world

This is my favorite era in the Metallica timeline so I enjoyed every second of this! Thank you.
Great era, a very especial place and time to be back on a travel machine, a espectacular time to see them.
1:32:39 now he screams when a tour starts XD
29:03 “Maybe they’ll be so drunk they’ll play Metal Militia” lolol
A Rare Nice Version of Eye of The Beholder at 14:21 min. Also Rare Frayed Ends of Sanity 1:25:00 mark.
I have no idea why they never played that song live more. Such a great cut off Justice.
@@lexustech48 Maybe Because Its 7:44 of pure mastery
It's so cool seeing this footage even 30 years later. What an amazing time to be alive.
To me this is as priceless as if it was lost footage of The Beatles.
It seems like they lived a very intrincate and monumental time in their lives, they were larger than life un those days.
11:05 "your beer?" "my BEER! my FOCKen beer!" "it fell!" "WAWT! no fuckel"
Great video. What a monumental band, especially during their prime in the late 80s
I was there in Sao Paulo Oct 6h, 1989.....yeah!!!!
1:30:15 wait, what??? Flame drums???
Whaaaaaaaaaaat?
JPX64 I didn’t know that! Thank you!
This is when they were at their peak. Lars could play drums, James' voice was still a bark, Kirk bothered to contribute to the album.
James could play Drums and Lars could song vis versa.
Conor McKee jason’s back vocals and metal energy
Their live tones were spot on too. It's tough hearing recent live stuff. James voice sounds a bit better just aged and nothing like this. But the guitars man.....ugh. they just don't sound right. They need to seriously get someone working on their tones, axefx can be great but I don't think their techs are using it to it's full potential. But I kind of wish they just went back to straight solid state amps a bunch of cabinets and some nice mics into a pa.
@@MaynardOwns Hello. Did Metallica use solid states? They were known for Mesa Boogie Mark IV's I believe. As well as Marshall's for the first 3 albums. Probably JCM 800's? Anyways, those are tube amps.
Dimebag was one of the few that played solid states...until he switched to those Krank tube amps.
I do agree though their guitar tone lately isn't so good.
Correction, Lars could NEVER play drums, lest we forget that Lars always was......the worst.
Went to the and justice for all tour back in 88, Auckland NZ. Back then, there wasn't a sea of mobiles, but a sea of long hair. Patched denim jackets ( metallers could sew back then LOL). Back then, most people would still tell you to turn that s**t off. It wasn't until the Metallica album (Black) came out, did they pull in the mainstreamers, with their soften tones. . Great video! Thanks for sharing. Great memories!
The Auckland show was at the Logan Campbell Centre on a Monday night.I missed both 1989 and 1993 Metallica shows in Auckland NZ .I finally got to see them in 1998 at the Supertop.Seeing my hero James Hetfield on stage was a mind explosion indeed \m/ as well as 2004 and 2010. I got tickets for October at Mount Smart cant wait\m/
I walk into my professors office as a student pursuing my masters degree and it so just happened that on that day I was wearing a Metallica shirt. Next thing you know he looks at my shirt and we stared talking about Metallica for like 20 minutes and he told me he saw them live in 1984.... I was so jealous and excited... Must have been nice to see Metallica at their apex
