I think he is the apprentice of the Sith Master. He is tired of hiding and biding time, so he is trying to find his own apprentice to usurp his master. As is tradition.

As I’ve said in one of Generation Tech’s videos:
I see this as two, maybe three ways:
    1. Qimir _is_ a Sith (whether currently or formerly like Maul or Millenial)
    2. He’s a Dark Jedi (like Set Harth or Desaan), who might have some hidden history involving Sol.
    3. He’s a _possible_ member/founder of the Knights of Ren (least likely)

If it’s a Sith story, The Stranger could be the only recurring character throughout more seasons. Possibly showing how he branches off and creates the Knight of Ren. Maybe unrelated but when confronting Maul and Savage, Palpatine says, “You have become a rival”. I’ve always interpreted that as there have been other rivals throughout recent Sith history. Could be the case here

I get the feeling that the few Jedi who know about Qimir by the end of this season may not believe he was really a Sith. It would explain why Mace Windu would be skeptical of a random dark side user with a red blade being Sith. That just reinforces the arrogance of the Jedi of the prequel era.

They were so underutilized in the Sequels, and we have no idea where they even were during the majority of the Sequel movies themselves. I need to care more about that group of Knights before I care about their order's history. That may be the perfect summation. It's been about 1,000 years since vikings were the scourge of Europe and the average American could still give you a reasonable description of a viking (but would also not know whether they were a unified nation or just bands of raiders). At the same time, the description of "fur clad Barbarian" is not actually descriptive of your average viking and could instead apply just as easily to a wide array of historic threats to more "civilized" areas (e.g. the goths, visigoths, lombards, huns, saxons, franks, avars, cumans).

I don't think it's silly or anything to call the Jedi "the good guys" because that's what they are. Part of the escapism of Star Wars and fiction in general is having good guys to root for in a story and bad guys to root against. And sometimes it isn't as simple as slapping a label on either and it's good to challenge that at times but something this show has really impressed me with is how it's humanised the Jedi really well and how they're presented, showing that they're just people with faults and insecurities and that's something I feel has been needed for Star Wars. Even Vernestra and the Jedi leadership have been shown to have valid concerns to approaching the investigation, things that need to be considered and I wouldn't want that to get flipped on its head by showing some of them committed atrocities on Brendok then hid it. I hope it was more of a tragic misunderstanding because the Jedi, while imperfect, should always be the good guys.

Q&A: For the next animated series, what do you want to see?
I personally want to see them take a break from the Prequel/Dark Times era and do something in the Pre-Sequel Trilogy era. A series with a different art style, centered on Rey, Finn and Poe before The Force Awakens would be what I'd like. It could add more to their upbringing and provide more of the Galaxy to explore in that era, like The Clone Wars did for the Prequels.
Rey's life on Jakku could see her abandonment and early struggle understanding the force.
Finn's story could have a tone like Andor, exploring how the First Order steals a person's soul.
And Poe's story could show his dissolutionment from the Bew Republic and his time with Zorri.

I think in terms of Sith history amongst the Jedi, being 900 years after the Sith it's probably not like your standard curriculum. It would be accessible in the library/Jedi archives and might even be the equivalent of an elective or advanced subject. But even then, you wouldn't expect the first red lightsaber wielding force user to be that 1000 year old group you learnt about growing up, you would suspect they're a copycat or someone influenced by that history.
The way Qimir says "someone like you" and "might call me Sith" is 100% accurate! He's just a red lightsaber wielding force user to every other being in the galaxy, but to the Jedi, they have a name for these types. And the emphasis on 'might' is because what's to say exactly what a Sith actually is? And what's a dark side splinter group with lightsabers? is it religion/ideology? In the context of 900 years post-Sith. So it's all completely interpretable!
I think he is a Sith, but the universe isn't so black & white. And this show is doing a fantastic job of showing us that especially with the Jedi. It's not about good or bad, it's about power, and who is allowed to use it.

I feel like Darth Manny (Qimir) may be what Darth Venamis was in Legends, the up and coming secret (preferred) challenger to Darth Plagueis by Darth Tenebrous.
In Legends Tenebrous was a bith, and Venamis was essentially his "son" by bith reproductive methods. To have a familial link between Qimir and what is possibly Tenebrous, Tenebrous kinda has to be human or near human in canon, something which would be possible given that we don't know much about Tenebrous there yet.

Concerning knowledge of the Sith: Going by THA phase 1, they are more of a holodrama or fairy tale villain at this point. The Jedi 100 years before The Acolyte are taught about things like the 1000 Year Darkness at least when they become knights, but they don’t immediately recognise a Sith…as shown when they encountered the memory of Darth Krall for example.

Aren’t there mentions in the High Republic books about holo-dramas about the Jedi / Sith wars? Isn’t it just part of standard Republic history and lore? I always got the impression that it’s kind of like how WW2 is taught in US public schools: There’s a unit on it, and thus on the ideologies of the factions of the War, but not much beyond that, and certainly not of any depth, unless you’re a specialist. And then whatever is on tv.

Q&A: are we going to be getting a season 2 of the Acolyte?
If so, could season one lead up to introducing the reigning Dark Lord of the Sith (if it isn’t Qimir, of course) and season two will transition from Mae and Osha’s story to Qimir and the Sith?
I did wonder if Qimir is Sol’s sibling and the last thing he remembers is Sol being taken away by the Jedi leaving Qimir feeling abandoned, sort of like that SWTOR trailer where a Jedi only takes one of two siblings away to be trained and the one left behind had a terrible time growing up. The way Qimir says “you don’t remember me, do you?” It just sounds like he’s talking about more than their brief encounter in the second episode. Maybe it is, maybe I’m reading into it too much.
But I am absolutely loving the theories and it’s been a nice distraction from all the hate the show has been getting.

What do y'all think about characters using the term 'high republic' in universe?
It sounds like a historian's term applied to a civilization that doesn't exist anymore (like how we call it the Byzantine empire but they called themselves the Roman empire). It makes me wonder when the label was created.
If they came up with that label during the high Republic era, it seems kinda self-aggrandizing. If it was during the prequels, are they admitting that they aren't as good as they used to be? If it came up during the empire, I would think palpatine's propaganda wing would ruin its image since it was a high point for the Jedi.
    Just some thoughts

I'm the opposite. The light side is easy for me because it's who I naturally am. It feels good to do right, to serve others and the greater good. If I hurt someone in any way, it would feel horrible, and I'd dwell on it for the rest of my life. I'd feel more guilt than the pain felt by the person I hurt. There's nothing easy or natural about being selfish and hurting others, or putting your own needs above others. At least not for me. I struggle to even take my own needs into account when helping others, sacrificing what I want or need, even if it makes me severely sick, stressed, or depressed, as long as I can help others. So for me, the hard part is definitely being selfish, even to a healthy level. I don't know how people can cause harm to other people without a care.

I really want him to be a Sith Lord... but I feel like Lucasfilm can't be trusted not to try too hard to link The Acolyte to the Sequel Trilogy, so he's almost certainly going to be a Knight of Ren.
If that's the case I hope that he was trained by a Sith but has gone off to form his own offshoot (there are several interesting EU equivalents, like the Jensaarai). That might mean, if there's a Season 2, we get to see the REAL Sith expressing how unhappy they are that this upstart threatens their exposure, which would be interesting to me (I always love seeing the Sith show why they're on a whole other level compared to other dark siders).

Maybe we don’t need to seperate the Knights of Ren and Sith at this point. What’s to say at their inception and height of power they weren’t a Sith offshoot? Qimir wants an acolyte, maybe instead of putting all his eggs in one basket he goes for a band of followers, like a cult leader.
I can imagine early Knights being a bit more devoted to something, and by the time of the OT and ST they have just devolved into a petty biker gang, in a similar vein to the Path of the Open Hand to the Nihil. Maybe part of Qimir’s downfall involves them splitting off from him.
The Knights might not even know Qimir is Sith. We don’t know if Mae knows explicitly that he is a Sith, or if she even cares. Maybe Qimir riles up a band of edgelords with promises of this cool dark side power.

The jedi are a force for good, but when they became a theocratic arm of the government, they were corrupted. They became 'soldiers' as the logical conclusion of that mistake. I hope that the canon NJO explores their true potential outside of the government (the rumored plot plays with this). The idealized Jedi, in my mind, were always closer to the Tales of the Jedi comics or some portrayals in Visions. The Jedi are best when they are more solitary, and not sanctioned by the galactic government.
