We can actually see the Blood magic in their veins when a miscarriage happened : the child is always deformed with dragon's body part like scales, claws, wings etc The more they married outside their family, the weaker their Blood became and weaker their bond with dragons became too... So they do marry outside the family sometime, but the next generation will be married to a Targaryen member. (example : Rhaenys married Corlys, and Laenor and Laena married Rhaenyra and Daemon after them. Viserys married Alicent, Aegon and Helaena married each other after them.) That's disgusting for us but they actually have a reason to do this 😅

And idk if you have siblings but I have sisters and although I would make fun of them and even be mean to them sometimes. I could 100% see myself calling the exterminators after hearing them being troubled by it.

Personally, in my head canon the Hightowers/Greens had so much hubris, they didn't take Helaena (or the idea of a threat to themselves) seriously - kinda hence why everyone was so relaxed, like Aegon drinking with his buds or Alicent.... Getting dirty with Cole lmao and then Cheese had such knowledge of the secret tunnels, I just found it hard he gained that all in a day or week. In the book, mushroom doesn't really disclose or pinpoint when Cheese is hired But the idea he cared enough to hire rat catchers is.. a sentimental theory that makes you cry if you care about any of them hahah Also I have a couple of sisters including one who... I'd compare to Maegor the Cruel 🫢

Aegon and Helaena is one of the few if only times, two Targaryen siblings weren’t meant to wed. They should have stayed brother and sister.
None of them should be married to each other. They should all have married outside of their family.
