They never should've made him a rapist. Without that, he would've been an even better character. I still choose to pretend it never happened because it didn't in the books and am all here for the new Aegon of season 2, he was my favourite part of the season, great performance by Tom Glynn-Carney
@@joramsim Thgey shouldn't have done that either. In the books it wasn't a rape scene. It was kinda sick, given the context, and was absolutely morally grey. But it wasn't rape.
@@TheEnasalinhe’s a great character excellently played and super well written but you can’t claim that him being a rapist is the only thing that makes him a bad person. That makes him worse of course but he’s still killed countless innocents, been a terrible husband, son, and father, backstabbed everyone he knows, and a cocky power obsessed genocidal terrible king. It also isn’t entirely unbelievable that something like that wouldn’t have made it into the history books, as fire and blood is a third hand account of everything that happened and women weren’t exactly given much sympathy historically in the kingdom.
Otto's "I do not wish to hear of it" is actually a super sad scene to me. There sits Otto, having schemed his daughter into being queen, forcing her into this role essentially, and when she comes to him in a moment of vulnerability he rejects her. He's basically telling her, "I'm old. You're an adult now. Your problems are your own." Which is fine, or would be had Otto not directly contributed to Alicent's unhappiness and poor decision making. The sins of our fathers indeed.
I didn’t feel bad about it because she basically did the same to Aegon moments before , as much as Otto contributed to alicients problems she also put herself in her own cage , she is much like her father and other nobles in trying to advance the house at any expense until it backfires
I agree. Especially when followed with Alicent going to find Aegon sobbing and being unable to comfort him. It really shows the generational trauma on that side of the family. I think people love to blame Alicent for everything, but fail to realize that the only reason she is in these situations and making these decisions is because her father forced her into the role of queen by sending her to comfort Viserys. Alicent didn’t choose to be queen, and anything after that I see as Otto’s fault
And then Allicent did the same and failed Aegon, leaving him alone to weep following the death of his son to instead go and sleep with Cole again, after originally manipulating him multiple times into his ascension and venom for Rhaenyra. Sadly Allicent mirrored Otto in wholly ignoring 'spare the rod, spoil the child' and instead chose to go full steam ahead in condescending and diminishing the son she strong-armed onto the throne and instilled a hatred of Rhaenyra for, past the point of no return, which saw him stupidly rush out to Rooks Rest.

Just missing the scene when Tyland innocently asks Aegon "was your life threatened, my king?' and Aegon grabs all the shit out of his hands and throws it at the wall and screams "I COULD HAVE BEEN!" it's such a morbid morose scene since its the aftermath of Blood and Cheese but it always gets a huge laugh out of me for how quick and in character it is.
