Before plugging the battery back, I would recommend leaving the ignition open just in case the airbag deploys.
Or take some hearing protection on, and reach under the steering wheel to turn on the ignition :)
I would never mess with things like this, however you know what you are doing. Good job man and beautiful golf btw. I am a proud golf 4 owner as well :)

Looks great! How did you get a GTI wheel without the audio controls on it? I have a MK6 golf and would like to do this but I don’t have the infotainment system so having the stock buttons would be useless.

I'm trying to retrofit a 2013 beetle wheel onto my Mk5 rabbit. Had to get a new clock spring because air bag connector was different. Now horn doesn't work & bag light on. Wondering if maybe needs coding or some wiring like this.

Hi bro, the steering wheel is from an VW Golf MK6 GTI, without buttons. The exact steering wheel is available on the Polo GTI (don't know the exact model tho)

Hi! Looks great! I have all the parts, but I can't see the wiring thoroughly. Can you post the wiring in real time? I bought my wheel and airbag for $225. Can you believe it?! Had to get it re-wrapped. Got golf R gray stitching and a shift gaitor to match. Also installed the mk6 Golf r shifter. Too nice. Help me with the wiring and I'll post pics.

Personally I would've used solder & heat shrink on the wire joints. What brand of t-shirt should be used to isolate the battery terminal? I can't make out the label in the video :P
i have a question. I have an mk6 jetta. if i wanna change my steering wheel i wouldn't have to change my airbag connectors right ?
If it has the same dashboard as a golf mk6 ,probably not

Looks really sharp man, great work. I'm currently in the process of doing the exact same thing to my Jetta. I have 1 question about the bottom trim. Did u just pry it off? I got the wheel with the wheel controls an they seem to come off with screws but the bottom has no screws, so b4 I start prying and ripping is like to just know, the wheel was not cheap. My car is a GLI not a GTIso of like to switch over the bottom to match or my own design ty

Question. I'm interested on installing a MK6 or mk7 steering wheel on my mk4 but I'm looking to use the stereo buttons on the newer wheel
I thought about it too, but most MK4 have just 4 pins in the connector of the steeringwheel so you cant connect the other buttons to it

Just have a quick q about the connections to the airbag:
Even though the cables coming out of the MK4 airbag connector are different color, I am assuming that there is no polarity as the connector can be inserted both ways.
In the case of MK6, the connector can be inserted only one way, tough the cables are the same color (yellow). The questions is: Do you think there is any reason to be concerned with the polarity of the airbag connector?

Hello i have a MK5 2004, Steering Wheel Control Module 1K0-953-549-A in my car and my steering wheel is 5C0 419 091AK. if i use Steering Wheel Control Module 3C0 953 549 AJ (for Passat) Will it work all functions well ? or which one i have to use? @@armandocapellupo1193 No, just make sure you connect the MK4 airbag cables to the MK6 airbag cables, same for the claxon... also don't forget to first unplug the battery and discharge yourself other wise the airbag could go off :)

How could you detach the airbag this fast? That usually takes a lot of time, and trials for me, it is really a pain in the ass task. :P
