    in brief:
In this video, Zoe, a multilingual PhD student, shares her favorite note-taking techniques for different language learning levels (beginner, intermediate, and advanced).
She emphasizes the importance of being selective with the information you note down, organizing it, and highlighting it for easy review.
For beginners, she recommends focusing on pronunciation, basic grammar structures, and frequent words.
For intermediate and advanced learners, the principle of being selective still applies.
Zoe suggests using different tools for different resources and levels: Excel sheets for beginners, Google Docs for tandem partners, Notability on iPad for language books and articles, and Reverso for new words from UA-cam videos and Netflix.
Zoe believes that Excel and Anki are more useful at the beginner level, while Google Docs, Reverso, Notability, and sometimes Anki are helpful for intermediate and advanced learners.
She emphasizes the importance of reviewing notes regularly and building a habit of doing so.
Zoe encourages experimenting with these tools and methods to find the most suitable one for your learning style and level.

I've been watching your videos often to gain the courage to learn my indigenous language. I know Spanish and English due to colonization but want to learn K'iche'-maya to communicate with my community like my grandparents. I feel like I'm good at memorizing and imitating sounds of a language I just lose motivation to be consistent. Great videos!!!

Hi bidemi from the Netherlands, you honestly have given me the motivation to become multilingual. I have always started with a goal but never gone through with it and stopping. But now given my kind of profession in international organisations I told myself, I AM GOING TO LEARN 3 languages at the same time; Spanish, french and Dutch. I will pick German but gradually despite people telling me not to, I just love Germany and Germans 😅, maybe would meet someone from there.

Hi, Zoe just wanted to thank you for your videos, I'm constantly looking for improving my language learning routine and I find your videos helpful.
I do use Anki for all the 6 languages I learn/speak and I noticed that you copy words from google sheets instead of simply importing them (In Google sheets: File -> Download -> Comma-separated values (.csv) and then just press "Import file" in Anki and choose that document it will update your old notes and add any new you have).
Hope I also helped you to save a bit of time for new languages :)

Already something new! I really love your videos because you shearing with us many differents methods what you are really try. Huge part of suggestions about note taking it's about writing and highlighting. Mean, it's what all we are already know from school. It's not only boring and wasted time but also too old for this centure. I'm really glad see your videos, how you honestly talk about your language learning journey and it's always not like teacher "you must do it and now i show up how do it properly" it's more about friendly advice from lovely friend.

@@zoe.languages i use a new method recently by using spreadsheet like anki. So a column for the sentence from targeted language, the translation, a simple notes like grammar, the added date, the last date i reviewed, a notes ("v"-if i remember the sentence/words, "x " if i can't remember, "-" i don't review it yet). By adding the dates and the notes i can filter and review it like anki. I also install google translate and text to speech addon to the spreadsheet. So you can translate and hear the pronunciation just by blocking the sentences. You can review it everywhere like in the phone as well. It's less burdensome than anki. 😅

Once you clear out the beginner level in a language which happens really fast if you have language experience then note taking should be really focused on key things again and should not take much time. In fact no more than some minutes every day. The bulk of the time should be spent on listening and reading challenging content. ( Steve I sound like your minion damit) as these are the resources which carry the most intermidiate-advanced vocab. I dont really know if noting down 15 phrase will even help at all. I am trying to kinda do this with some swedish textbooks but doesnt seem to really work. Great content Zoe keep it up!

Can anyone tell me how to enable the Reverso csv download function? The three dots don't appear in my favourite page.

Hi zoe how are you? I have seen your videos speaking in chinese but could you do one speaking in zhuang with subtitles and talk about the difference between zhuang and mandarin for example?

Thank you, Zoe, for helpful advice. Please, do you know if Reverso can work properly on free level? Because, it does not translate ( even mark) word in youtube subtitles, just in normal text it does. I try to figure out, what is the problem. Than you very much. I admire your hard work and goals :)

Thanks. I’m unclear how you send vocabulary from UA-cam to Reverso. What are you clicking on, does that copy it into Reverso for Translation, then you export that later?
