Yes that's why Putin personally invited Khabib to his house and gave him the reception of a national hero....for a sport that is not national representation..ok
it's a similar tactic to one used by a lot of dictators during the early 20th Century. In a ton of publicly released photos or videos of dictators would be in the presence of cute animals or small children, to give the image of a kind ruler in order to mask reality. For example, you'll notice that in a lot of images of Lenin he's either appearing with cats or small children. This was to show that he was a kindly person, incapable or ordering such horrible atrocities as the ones he committed. I'd suggest watching Slavoj Zizek's video on Communism and the Great Other for a more in depth explanation.
I don’t think, that it is meant to “mask” reality. Even these dictators (...) are plaguing their countries, they also love (their) children and like animals etc. We have to be also very careful when it comes to put the blame to respective system. Yeah - the early communists were quite bad, but the Russian monarchy wasn’t much better (when it came to human rights etc.). And anyway not only communist but basically all dictators try to put themselves in a positive light. Overall I do agree, that some dictators are doing it- but Correlation doesn’t imply causation!
...fair enough. What I also wanted to point out is, that even though the “baddies” are cruel against minorities (...), it doesn’t mean, that they cannot love animals or children (as long as they are not from rejected minorities). It is almost comically... like “Dr. Evil” brushing his beloved cat!
Putin wouldn´t put someone he couldn´t depose in such a position, would he? It is obvious that as popular he may be his position and his power come directly from Putin and that he is just his puppet.
He couldn't depose anyone in Chechnya without full blown rebellion. He keeps them happy with bribes. At best he could assassinate them, creating a power vacuum which is worse.
This dude also bullied a 15 yr old kid that made critical statements about him on Instagram, and then made the kid's dad apologize on TV. Talk about a real tough guy.
second that. though he's far beyond modern thoughts, he seems to be a working solution for Chechnya right now. 2 Wars nearly destroyed the country and people like never before. And I think (though russia is the source) such investment and level of lifestyle he offered to his people is far better than every other unstable govt they had. Again am not supporting any of those human rights violations, but from the history those people were killed in 90s. so when compared to that, he's the best alternative available. Hope something like an Arab spring or democratic quest from people in the future may shape the country into something more livable!
The part with him dual-firings light machine guns... just because you can, doesn't mean you should. He looked ridiculous, and doing that in a real battle would seem to be a very bad idea. Hope he enjoyed the soreness in his arms and shoulders, the next day.
"There are no homosexuals in Chechnya.." Reminds me of Talat Pasha who was asked by the Germans what happened to the Armenians "There are no Armenians in the Ottoman Emprire"
It’s quite interesting how ministers speak out on the some what controversial homophobia abuse but no ministers came up to speak up when a massacre took place like in Burma. Whole villages were raped burnt wiped out
What I learned from this video is actually one thing. Smart way of Putin to settle down Chechnya crisis. While the other leaders usually just simply directly fight the Islamist separatist (or terrorist or whatever the name is) movements with their army. Which is usually costly, so difficult, so long, ineffective and usually ended with just another crisis. Like in Iraq. Putin simply support another Islamist group to fight those separatists. The group that he can more easily control and rely on him for their regyme. Since they are also Islamist group the local people are easier to adapt rather than bringing Russian troops to counter separatists directly who tend to make friction with local people because of different culture and belief system.
@@overthinkingintrovert396 not really, it is whats essentially happening now but it didnt start this way. Putin couldve achieved it by going about it diplomatically but he didnt, he achieved that situtation by war, he didnt care for losses. russia was coming back from a bad period and he had to bring back russias iron fist and what better way than war.
If you can love animals, and somehow find it in you an impossibility to respect another human's basic rights, you're just a monster with a very thin human mask.
People are surprised at how people can look one way and be another. (E.g. Churchill the war hero? Try War criminal, wife beater and violent alcoholic.) Most people don't bother looking further than the surface level. Glad Vox made this.
I don't know why it comes as such a shock just how "normal" most brutal dictators are. I guess we expect them to be like movie archetypes, no, they are just like you only without inhibition.
There is nothing strange about a dictator murdering people and silencing everybody this is the hallmark of liberalism. I am surprised that Vox even posted a video like this considering that Islam and Dictatorship is what the left loves.
@@jameshodgson3656 Not really.

He couldn't depose anyone in Chechnya without full blown rebellion. He keeps them happy with bribes. At best he could assassinate them, creating a power vacuum which is worse.

second that. though he's far beyond modern thoughts, he seems to be a working solution for Chechnya right now.

It clearly tells where the interests and the intentions of the western leaders lie these days.
Actually putin started the Second Chechen War that ended up lives of 100 000 Chechen civilians.
