Ramzan Kadyrov is the leader of Chechnya. He is a Putin proxy that has been in charge of the Russian republic since 2007. Recent reports have alleged that Kadyrov is systematically identifying and persecuting homosexual Chechen citizens. Many have fled the country in fear and have given interviews detailing his plans to kidnap, torture, and kill gay people.
Despite the dark revelations, Kadyrov has continued to maintain an upbeat profile on Instagram, where he is a prolific user. Post by post, Kadyrov has used the social media platform to carefully craft a public image that distracts from his sinister behavior. Online he tends to post pictures of animals, selfies with friends, sports clips, and glamorous footage of Grozny, the capital of Chechnya.
On the other hand, he also features imagery that hints at the darker aspects of his leadership. Kadyrov has a personal militia, called the “Kadyrovtsy”, and in various posts they can be seen shooting guns, performing training exercises, and practicing combat tactics. In doing so, he implies a clear threat to anyone who chooses to cross the Chechen leader.
Two other common subjects are his religious faith and Vladimir Putin. Kadyrov is a devout Muslim and he leverages his faith to promote a strict interpretation of Islam: one that limits the role of women and endorses cruel punishment. He is also a fervent supporter of Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia. By featuring Putin in his posts, Kadyrov makes his deference to the Russian leader explicit. That is because Putin helped bring Kadyrov to power and affirms the authority of his Chechen subordinate.
As long as Kadyrov maintains stability in the North Caucasus, Putin will continue to protect Kadyrov. That being said, if anyone is going to hold Kadyrov responsible for the troubling accusations about gay persecution, it will be Vladimir Putin. The more the world takes notice, the more Putin will have to, as well.

it's a similar tactic to one used by a lot of dictators during the early 20th Century. In a ton of publicly released photos or videos of dictators would be in the presence of cute animals or small children, to give the image of a kind ruler in order to mask reality. For example, you'll notice that in a lot of images of Lenin he's either appearing with cats or small children. This was to show that he was a kindly person, incapable or ordering such horrible atrocities as the ones he committed. I'd suggest watching Slavoj Zizek's video on Communism and the Great Other for a more in depth explanation.
I don’t think, that it is meant to “mask” reality. Even these dictators (...) are plaguing their countries, they also love (their) children and like animals etc.
We have to be also very careful when it comes to put the blame to respective system. Yeah - the early communists were quite bad, but the Russian monarchy wasn’t much better (when it came to human rights etc.). Indeed it won't! Lgbt people still remain and fight back for thier rights as long as there alive. And there's nothing you can do about it. LGBT people also know how to pick up arms and raise an insurgency to fight back against atrocities upon them. They are not scared, and will fight back till thier last breath.
Another thing, Chechnya is dangerous country for LGBT people. But don't worry very soon we will change it, and change Chechnya into a peaceful and democratic country like Canada.
You should understand that lgbt isn't something you can control, and it's unfair to exclude such people because of the way they are born. But you people are too ignorant to understand it. No doubt.
P.S: I am a straight man, not lgbt individual. But I find it unfair and disturbing how you guys make thier lives horrible and depressing. What I learned from this video is actually one thing. Smart way of Putin to settle down Chechnya crisis. While the other leaders usually just simply directly fight the Islamist separatist (or terrorist or whatever the name is) movements with their army. Which is usually costly, so difficult, so long, ineffective and usually ended with just another crisis. Like in Iraq. Putin simply support another Islamist group to fight those separatists. The group that he can more easily control and rely on him for their regyme. Since they are also Islamist group the local people are easier to adapt rather than bringing Russian troops to counter separatists directly who tend to make friction with local people because of different culture and belief system.
Actually putin started the Second Chechen War that ended up lives of 100 000 Chechen civilians.

Putin couldve achieved it by going about it diplomatically but he didnt, he achieved that situtation by war, he didnt care for losses. russia was coming back from a bad period and he had to bring back russias iron fist and what better way than war.
