My Sisterlock’s installation was April 7th & 8th. My “Ugly Stage” lasted about 3 hours. I put my bonnet on, told myself to trust the process and went to bed. When I woke up Sunday morning, I was in a new state of mind. This was my Awakening Stage. Five weeks in and I’m loving and embracing every step of this journey!❤
Ive had sisterlocks for 3 years now, i spent $1200 for my install and first retie and i havent spent any money since because i do them myself! A monthly retie takes me 2-3 hours and i do it while watching a movie or i break it up into 1-2 days depending on what i feel like. I also enjoy doing it it’s very meditative. The rest of the month i shampoo and go. It’s extremely low maintenance. Dont get lint because i dont use oils and if i did i would just dye my hair black. I did not follow the rules when i got them i experimented and wet them everyday. If you can learn to care for your hair yourself its extremely low maintenance and affordable
If you STILL wants to get sisterlocks after watching this video, you are definitely ready! I watched a lot of "con" videos before my install, and I'm thankful I did b/c they prepared me for the journey without the rose-colored glasses. I think she did a great job in covering the cons. 💯
I agree. Even after watching this video, I am still going through with my appt next month. I waited over a year to get an appt and final decided to make a move on it and invest in me.
That’s exactly why I didn’t get sister locks. I love my medium size locks. Thank you for being so transparent because people are not honest about these types of locks. They are beautiful on you!!❤❤❤
@@AnnyKeyz Great video. You confirmed again why I would never get Sisterlocs. The thought of being held hostage financially every 4-8 wks was a no no for me. If these consultants were all to hike their prices up, in this economy, it would be a nightmare. No, I'll stick to the flexibility of my natural hair and 2 strand twists every now and again.
I had medium size locs now sisterlocks and i 100% prefer the sisterlocks they feel lighter and are fuller. The retight looks fresh longer than a retwist and i dont have to use and gel/products. Maintanance is about the same if yiu do them monthly and you dont have to sit under the dryer, deal with clips or avoid getting them wet after retwist
@@positivevibesveda Hi, thanks for that advice. I appreciated it. I did consider that but I couldn't see me realistically being able to dedicate my time to retying them. I could see me permanently retying them because of stopping and starting. I was like that with mini twists (because my hair starts to seriously loc after 3 days!) and I couldn't handle it! :( Sisterlocs are so beautiful though! If I went for locs it would absolutely be them❤️
I just heard the term sisterlocks for the first time a few days ago. So I looked it up here on UA-cam. I have been doing my own hair for over 30 years. I never went to salons regularly. However, when I was a child my mother used to send me to the hairdresser to get my hair relaxed. Back then hairdresser didn't do touch up, they relaxed your entire hair each time. As a child I could see how much it damaged my hair. My hair is so healthy and long now because I do my hair myself. I don't lock my hair. I texlax the new growth every 16 weeks, 3 times per year.
I had a white woman do my Sisterlocks in November 2019 and she didn’t give many any advice and when the pandemic happened she dropped me like a hot potato. Her name is Krista ramaley. Very unprofessional. I met a fabulous consultant who is black and lives 400 miles away and she has taught me a lot. Her name is Shyra love her
I have an appointment with her on the 12th of this month. Unfortunately she is the only one in slc. I'm glad I saw your comment. Maybe I should rethink going to her. She has 2 pics on her Instagram which doesn't say much. I'm on the fence now.
Thank you so much for that comment! 💖 That was the goal of this video. It's a big decision, and it's a lot of money. I really wanted to be sure this is really what I wanted when I was researching, and videos like these really helped me. I'm glad it's doing the same for you. 🙏🏽
I did my sisterlocks yesterday. Was rocking my natural fro for a while. My Loctician told me my hair was 9 inches. Still a little frizzy and tiny but I am ready for the journey as this phase has to happen.
Anything that can be done with the hair, you can do yourself. As far as trademarking is concerned, anyone can trademark anything. All people have to do is to give it your own tweeks, then get it trademarked. Who makes the rule for you to follow? People, stop letting people tell you all sort of foolishness about sister locks. All they are is a different type of locks, and nowadays people are coming with all types of locks. Everything is not for everyone, so we need not get bent out of shape with any locks regardless of what they call them. You can take care of your own hair regardless of what you have in. Both me and my daughter have sister locks for a long time with no problems. We do our hair ourselves. People will rip you off financially if you let them. Locks have been around forever, you just have to be willing to know how to take care of your hair, and be willing to do so.
💙💙💙....you are so right on point with this....locked & braided hair isn't new... the key is to take care of your hair....you can do it yourself or pay someone to do it for you 💙💙💙
That's great! I wish I had someone who could do it for me for free. That's not my life but I'm happy with my circumstances. If things change I'll adapt.
I love how thick your hair is and how full your edges are. I am thinking about getting sisterlocs and I am so nervous about my edges coming out or thinning!
Thank you! Since my hair rarely turns out tight after reties, I think I'm ok. My thinning may come from hormonal imbalance but not traction alopecia. I pray it stays this thick for a long time.
Yep! I know how that works... My crown was constantly breaking and now it's growing nicely because I stopped doing the thing that was causing breakage. 💖
Happy New Year! I just got my sister locks in October and have alopecia on the sides. At first it was not when expected. My sides were exposed and I did tie my hair up most of the time. I would not have gotten them if I had realized this before. Now, my hair is starting to get fuller and the sides aren’t as noticeable. This is a process so as the sister in the video above states you have to have patience. I’m learning this.
That’s what I will do whenever I’m done with it… 🤣 but it’s been 5 years for me and being prepared for the cons doesn’t mean you can’t handle them. Check out my “The amazing PROS of Sisterlocks” for a balanced opinion. 💖 I love my locs.
The size of sisterlocks is what I love. I prefer the smaller locks and I love the curly ends. I noticed that some people have curky ends and some people seem to be locd from root to ends. Could people be getting microlocks and sisterlocks confused?
Asha. I love the size and the curly ends as well. I have sister locks which has not matured. I installed 2/13/2021. I I did not know that the beautiful curly ends will become a know (Locs) at the end. Sooo I’m considering when as they form I will remove them. It can be confusing so now I have to decide something that I didn’t understand or read about before I locked.
Curly ends seems to depend on your hair. Some have them and others do not no matter the type of locs. But eventually, they loc for most. A small percentage keep curly ends for a longer time, like over 5 years… but they loc eventually for most.
I'm 2 yrs in. Started at 3 inches. I've had the same loctition. I go every 5 weeks. 4 is too soon, 6 is too long. Like my dentist, I make my appt before I leave. She chrgs $35 an hr. Never been there past 2. 4 point rotation, usually done in 130 to 145. No lolligagging. Her mother does it too. Sometimes there is 4 of us in the room. I too have some issues. There was a lil slippage on a few, but still have a bud on it. There are a few that bunched but still budded. There are some not budded at all. I don't fret about it. It's still low maintenance to me. Not a bunch of product, and it looks good on me. I look at it like this. It's gone do what it's gone do. As it gets longer it will all blend in. MY HAIR IS PERFECTLY IMPERFECT 😲
I instantly went to go look at your location, because I heard your accent and immediately thought "she's from Montreal/Quebec" (like me) lol Thanks for the video. I want small locs but I don't want to spend too much time maintaining them or stressing my edges. Thanks for the transparency!🙏🏾💕
I love my sisterlocs, just don’t feel like their growing. Maintenance is quite cheap and easy for me and my retightening take 3 hours max which is not too bad! Just wish I could see more progress, I just need to be patient I guess. I’m very early in my journey and my hair is super short
It takes about 2 yrs or so for you to see any length. I’m tbt beginning locs will shrink until they mature, then they form shrink as much so you see the length. I’ve had my microlocs for 5 yrs btw. Just be patient and perhaps use wraps to switch it up .
two years in I don't like mine. ends keep warping around and extra thick. Trying to hang in here but for the money and maintenance I am questioning my decision. I really wanted thin locks. Also I want a full service beautician to wash and style not just retighten. I hate to cut my hair again but...I may just go back to my wash and go hair.
Hello. My granddaughter is 4 years old will be 5 this April. My granddaughter dislike getting her hair done all the time and she's tender headed. I tried her hair with the dreads and that didn't work for me. I waited a while. She still didn't like getting her hair washed or style. I made the decision to get Sister Locs for her. I don't think she understood the process but she said grandma I'm so excited to get my hair done. I took her at eight in the morning and she was done by at 4:30pm. I think the time was not that long bcuz she didn't take it to the very end. She put rollers in to give it the curly look. I thought it was going to be like hanging, but I guess to take the pressure off of having a child sit this long, the Specialist didn't take it to the ends. I feel the technician did a wonderful job. The thing is, my grand suffers with very dry scalp and I can't put oil on her scalp. She got her locs on Feb 6 2022 so she is super new in her locs. She loves her hair. Bcuz her technician did such awesome parting I can put it in a few styles with the ends being loose I'm trying to adjust with that. In all I'm trying to get pass the beginning stage. It's hard for me bcuz I like her hair neat and fresh all the time. The fact that I only have to tidy her hair before school with some hair ornaments is a plus. Yes it's kind of fuzzy around the edges and I can't use any edge control, but I'm trying to stick that out. I want to put this out there, her Loc Specialist is so so sweet, professional and patience + more.😊 My granddaughter loved her and I was also happy with her. She made sure my grand had her meals and snacks. Now I just have to get use of this Loc journey.😊. Blessings!!!!💕
I understand that sisterlocs says not to use oil however sisterlocs is hair. Do what’s best for your granddaughters hair . I bit I’d light oil won’t hurt her scalp if it dry. All the rules and the price is why I decided to do my own microlocs. I do what’s best for my hair as I know my hair better than anyone else.
I had traditional locs, loved them, had to take them down because of headaches but learned later in life the weight of the locs was not the cause of my headaches. I want them back...
My microloc installation is scheduled for July 6th & 7th, 2021. I have fine and low density hair, so my certified sisterlock consultant recommended microlocs instead. They will be small; using the interlock method with bricklayer parting. I hope I said that correctly as I am new to the verbiage. Lol. I found your video to be very helpful and informative...thank you for sharing. I'm so ready to ditch the crochet braids and start my journey. Wish me luck.
My microlock installation is scheduled for sept 3. If I would’ve went with sister locks it would’ve cost me $2300. The micro locks will cost me $1200. My hair was measured at 12” naturally long. Is this normal?
@@busymommat just tell them not to put put them in too small, you may regret it You will just have to interlock to retight every 6 to 8 weeks, Goodluck...
@@AnnyKeyz you can do it, just put it in sections and take your time. It' s not impossible. Just ask your consultant what's your rotation, mostly a rotation 4 and just do it. Your hair is beautiful. Sister lock also have classes to teach you how to retight your own hair, which is about $200 or 300 dollars. It's worth taking. Just go on their site at sister lock.com for class schedules...
Did experience extreme itching and dandruff during the first months? One week after washing my hair becomes super itchy and with lots of dandruff,I end up scratching them a lot and the end result is terrible.Am glad to finally land on someone with my hair type,Your locs are beautiful.
This can all be avoided by 1. Don't be lazy learn how to do your own hair if worried about money 2. Be hygienic if your not nasty and take care of your hair then.... You get it right My opinion 1. Don't bring down a hairstyle because it does not work for you 2. You don't need chemical products to take care of your hair, it's just a sham to steal more money 3. Do your RESEARCH before you listen to people who regret their life decisions
Thank you for that. I absolutely love my locs. Those videos are mostly for people trying to make a decision. It’s good to know, if possible, what you are getting yourself into before making the jump. This is the great thing about UA-cam. I really loved watching Sisterlockers sharing their ups and downs before choosing…
Anastasia thanks for saying this. I feel the same. Some of these cons can become pros if you learn how to take care of your own hair. There’s so many good videos that provide you with healthy information on how to avoid some of the things mentioned in this video.
something that I don’t see people touch on that worries me. If you have thinner, low density hair this style looks great. But it you have really thick high density hair, it will be too much hair. I already experience that with regular medium sized locs. Sister locs would be way too full
Sisterlocks will get thick too after a few years. But they’ll fit under a wig in the beginning for sure. My hair is fine and I have a hard time wearing a regular size beanie now.
I have Sisterlocs, but I am probably going to switch to microlocs because of how hard it is to find anyone to retighten them. It has been 18 months, but I am moving. It was already incredible trying to find someone to install, but retightens are just as hard (if not harder because locticians are not taking transfer clients). It's just way too exclusionary and therefore inaccessible. It's just not very practical if you move often (~every 2 years)
I can understand that. I don’t know what I would do if I had to find a new loctician every couple of years. I had a very hard time when my loctician was injured for a few months and could not do my retightnings. Not fun at all. I agree, in this case, Microlocs are a good idea.
I personally enjoyed my ugly stage. Sprayed some rosè water(don't use anymore) and a head band and out the door. Actually considering getting color. Scared but i think they'll pop more. Fingers crossed everyone!
The ugly stage… I didn’t find it ugly for me either. I just heard it so much, I thought it would be a thing. I’m thinking about color too. I haven’t decided… Good luck to you! Hope you like it. 💖
Installation costs truly depends on where you are and who is doing it (trainee vs certified consultant). It also depends on your hair length. Roughly it is between 500$ and 1000$ for 5 inches of hair. Do not quote me... The consultant determines the pricing. But just to give you an idea... You need a retie every 4 weeks in the beginning. Then it goes to 5 weeks. Right now I try to go every 6 weeks, but life happens and I do go passed that fairly often.
Who cares what you think. I would sit in a salon for perm touch ups every 3 to 6 weeks tearing and burning my hair out for more hours than my re-ties. As far as money is concerned, what about the cost of the bundled hair costs and the perm touch ups. The cost came out the same. Now I don't worry about product, my hair is long and healthier than its ever been. And I the freedom is priceless.
😳 yes, absolutely! I love my locs as well and share the same sentiments as you. I've shared my ups and downs, and pros and cons... I hope you've seen videos where I'm gushing over my locs. ❤️
@@AnnyKeyz I'm sorry if I came off harsh. This is the first video I've seen of yours. I'm 8 years in and the tone of this video in the beginning made me not do my due diligence and listen all the way through. I have been blessed to not experience unprofessional behavior from my loctician. These "cons" you speak about is sounds like you were bashing the profession of being a consultant. I'm sure it's folks out here who can try a DIY approach, and the cost and time is comparable to what most of us was putting out previously. Maybe lead in gushing about your locks, then warn about the things people can do to con people. Again, I apologize if I got the wrong impression.
Not a problem… I’ve had doubts and stressful things happen to me during my journey and I’ve shared those. But it’s been mostly good and I definitely share the good. I think knowing both sides is useful. It was for me… Thanks for the feedback! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you my daughter in law is certified and I am still debating so I am trying to learn as much as can. She will be giving me my consultation .I just make sure I have patience. I was going to ask her about coloring, but you answered my question. I am a people person, that being said I ask a lady in the store how she liked hers and she said she loved them. Again she confirmed patience is key. I wondered could I put a wig on but that would be defeating my purpose for getting the locs. Plus my daughter in law would probably say no. Thank you for your video.
Well, I think you can do whatever feels more comfortable to you making sure to discuss it with your consultant first. But the scalpy look is not as bad as people think. I didn’t mind it. It wasn’t that bad for me. So it might look fine on you as well. Good luck on your loc adventure! 💖
@AnnyKeyz ahh. I understand you sis..maybe because I started mine on my own and been doing it myself since beginning. People think I did it professionally. Most get offended when they ask me and they don't believe me until I show them the video of my process. To be fair mine has been free of charge all along. So yeah..Good point.
@mortalwombat78 But what about the time? You were fine with it? I did not want to do my hair any more that's why the lesser of two evils was paying. I prefer paying than doing it myself. I'm just not that talented. But again very happy with my decision.
It’s mainly in the beginning there are little things that you have to do like braiding and banding and do not color for many months, use a special shampoo (the starter shampoo), no conditioner on the locs, no products on the locs like oils and moisturizers and not wash your hair too often… I think that’s it… 💖
Oh… The medical exam? I can only guess that it may be hard to get an accurate reading with locs. It’s better to ask a doctor for this. I’ve never needed to get an EEG. But in general I’ve known people who have removed their locs for medical reasons.
I also lost a lot hair during post-partum shedding. I would wait until this stage passes before loc’ing. But of course a consultant will give you the most professional and sound advice you can get on the subject.
My sister rinsed her hair for grays right after getting them I'm not sure why you're advising there's a wait on that just wondering. Unless there's a chemical difference between rinses and dyes?
I was sharing what my consultant advised me. I think this advice is pretty wide spread within Sisterlocks consultants. I've heard a lot of people say that same thing. I still haven't dyed it! 😉 I still like my natural color and don't mind the grey hair coming in slowly.
I don’t do it. But that’s personnal preference. I would say, if your consultant says your hair is ready and this is something you want to do, go ahead. It’s really about doing what is best for you in the end.
I did color before installation, but the greys came in a few weeks after. Now I'm 3 years in... It doesn't bother me, but the greys have grown since installation.
My locs are 7 weeks old and never been shampooed. When I shampoo next week, will my locs swell up? They are still baby thin with very fine and soft hair. Thank you!
Hi! All my comments were deleted when I made a change in my UA-cam account last fall. I was so disappointed... I never even thought to address it in a video. If you see more, ask again.
It’s better to ask your consultant. That’s always the best route. I have not used either. The main idea in the beginning is avoiding manipulation as well as weakening the hair. After your locs have formed and matured, I don’t think it matters and you can used the product you prefer for coloring your hair. I haven’t colored yet.
I have used Henna before, when I was natural. That’s how I used to color my hair, actually, for a few years. But I still don’t want to color my locs right now, however. I think they look great as they are. We’ll see in the future. 💖
Does anyone have any information about how you get certified for that I might be mistaken but I feel like everyone thinks cosmetologists are certified to do any and everything but in reality they are not taught to do locs at all so I would really like to know who and where do you get certified to do this
For Sisterlocks, you can visit www.sisterlocks.com to read up on how to get certified. For other types of locs, it’s mentorship mainly. You are trained by a loctician with more experience. It works out for most, but if you want something more official, you should look into getting Sisterlocks from a certified consultant.
The rules are mostly whatever your consultant says is best to start your locs on the right foot. Mine were: you cannot wash too often or freely, you need to braid and band. You should not color or bleach. You should not use moisturizers (like moisturizing shampoos, conditioners, deep conditioners, moisturizing sprays, etc). You should limit styling. There may be more but these are the ones I remember. These rules apply from the establishment and last a few weeks or a few months depending on your hair. As for the price, 1000$ is not expensive, in my opinion. That was the price 5 years ago in Montreal, Canada.
@@AnnyKeyz Thanks a lot for the feedback. I have fine hair as well and I wanted small locks but my consultants said I can only do the medium size because I have fine hair. So I've been looking for sisters with similar lock type just to envisage how mine would look.
@@AnnyKeyz Exactly how she explained it. A weak base could become problematic in the future and that I should make the right decision from the outset. I have already booked a session for the 26th of this month and I cannot wait to start my journey 😊
It is recommended to check the Sisterlocks website to verify if there are Sisterlocks consultants or trainees in your area. Getting Microlocs is from a local shop is also a great option.
How often can you wash your hair? Like if there is a smell from frying food can you wash them right away? Thanks for sharing. I get my sister locs on the 14th and 15th of this month.
Not all black people do this apparently… 😂 you can keep your card… 🤣 I still don’t cover my hair. It’s not at all a habit that was taught to me growing up. I do see the reason for it. I just never think of it.
Once your hair locks, the locks set, you can wash your hair any time you want. It helps to wash it in the prescribed braiding-and-banding way especially when your locks are new.
I noticed my sisterlocks are breaking off at the root...maybe from thinning sisterlocks. Its not alot but I am still concerned. Please tell me what I can do to combat this
Ok so I paid my sisterlock deposit. I had to pay it which is half of the install. Just to book. After watching this I will NOT be getting Sisterlocks 😳. Guess I will just be out of some money.
Wow, that's a lot. Are you sure? Maybe you can make an arrangement with the consultant. Does she do Microlocs? Would you like Microlocs? I say they are not for everyone, but I absolutely love my hair. Good luck to you! ❤️
@@AnnyKeyz unfortunately she does NOT do micro locs. That’s what I wanted initially. Because my hair is medium/low density. I felt the micro locs would look fuller. But I will just have to travel. I’m in a small town btw. Thanks for the advice!!💕
It’s not forever. It’s until your hair locs or until your loctician says it’s ok. But it’s always ultimately your decision. You decide what you want to do with your hair.
I agree with this actually. I've talked about it a lot on my channel. But I'm still glad I've done my hair like this, Microlocs or Sisterlocks... I don't have the skills or patience to do it myself.
@@AnnyKeyz Just a day, but I have made a big mistake. I don't have the patience to wait for them to grow and puff out. I did not realize I would look like a plucked chicken.
Thak you for your information and your opinions, is a journey and a personal journey, different people have different hair types and the hair behave differently under different circumstances. I took a sisterlocs journey and after 3 yes I decided to end the journey for personal preferences , I installed and maintained my hair myself, I also Uninstalled my locs, but I would never tell anyone not to take the sisterlocs journey. That's something everyone have to deal with, and they can choose to or not, those pros and cons you keep talking about is called life and people live everyday. Respect.
No its not just the legal paperwork of a trademark. Its that there are different patterns within Sisterlocks for different types of hair and there are specific techniques and tools for maintenance.
Oh… no… the video is to share the negative parts of Sisterlocks. Nothing is always rainbows and sunshine all the time. It’s better to know what you’re getting into before; the good the bad and the ugly. I couldn’t just share the good. But I don’t have many videos sharing the bad. I really love my locs. The majority of my videos about them show that. But, I myself wanted to know about everything when I was researching to make an informed decision. I shared everything I could in the beginning…. 💖
Beautiful commentary on SL 😊 But please be careful out here when it comes to your SL , everyone is not out here for your good on your hair periodT. I let a girl In Hayward CA, name Kristin do my Sisterlock install- 🤦🏽♀️ she was awful to say the least and very unprofessional. I went to her for a couple of more months, but my gut told me to stop going to her. She did not know what she was doing. She did not do the Sisterlocs grid- she messed up my hair- and had the nerve to get upset because I stopped tipping her. In the meantime I was looking for a new sister Loctician ….and I actually reported her to Sisterlock foundation . I have a new lady now , in San Leandro California. She is amazing ! Some of these folks out here do not want to take care of your hair. They only want the money. And her attitude was definitely from awful 😞 If you feel it in your gut, please do your research. Do not go to the first person you see! This is my second set of Sisterlocks. Soon I will be doing a channel myself regarding my Sisterlock journey. 😉 I made sure that I told as many folks as I could… be safe out here when it comes to your hair.
My Sisterlock’s installation was April 7th & 8th. My “Ugly Stage” lasted about 3 hours. I put my bonnet on, told myself to trust the process and went to bed. That’s amazing! And I can say that for me, the love grew as my hair evolved. Have a great journey! 💖
I experienced the same thing. I am a week in and I love mine.
That’s great! I actually like to not have to do my hair myself right now. I’m sure I’ll do it differently when I feel differently.
Sisterlocks, from the cost to the loctitian dependency are completely the opposite of the philosophy of locs.. freedom
Totally.

Did she do a good job with installing your sisterlocks? Is she expensive as a trainee?
You paid a white woman to install your locs? Girl smh

She shouldn’t even be a consultant I’m sorry but sisterlocks is for the sisters. Not for others.

💙💙💙....you are so right on point with this....locked & braided hair isn't new... the key is to take care of your hair....you can do it yourself or pay someone to do it for you 💙💙💙
Sisterloc pimps I do lots and still paid didn't make no sense cut them out letting my hair grow back to restart them. Greetings from Michigan peace
Exactly. I retie my daughter’s and my husband reties mine. $300 a month forever??? No way!
That's great! I wish I had someone who could do it for me for free. That's not my life but I'm happy with my circumstances. If things change I'll adapt.
@@AnnyKeyz hopefully you can make a SisterLocs friend nearby and y’all can help each other.
I didn’t have edges due to wigs and braids before I got my sister locs 8 months in my edges have grew back
I wish and pray for a great journey for you. 💖
This sounds like a lot of work. Lordt help me I don’t have the patience.
Wow 6 hours to retighten 😢yikes. Mine take 2 hours and i have 520. Yes being dependent is kinda a bummer but in reality i am starting to love it
It has never taken my loctician 6 hours to retire my hair….. 2 hours/ 3 if I get a style maybe
Thank you so much, you have been so thorough with this information. I will stop and think a lot harder about this major decision.
Absolutely! It’s a big decision and those videos were important for me.
Agree, and same here.
Only way to escape all this stress is to shave the hair off.

Oh no😂😂
Thanks for sharing! Priceless information ❤ Your hair is beautiful 🎉
The size of sisterlocks is what I love. I prefer the smaller locks and I love the curly ends. I noticed that some people have curky ends and some people seem to be locd from root to ends. Could people be getting microlocks and sisterlocks confused?
Sisterlocks are under the umbrella of microlocks.
@@ladydi4565 some people just keep using leave in or conditioner on their ends to keep them from locing…
I have sister locs and I don’t have curly ends
I instantly went to go look at your location, because I heard your accent and immediately thought "she's from Montreal/Quebec" (like me) lol
Thanks for the video.
Oh it’s going to grow alright! I thought the same thing.
The hair still shrinks whilst in locs, that's the reason you don't see much growth.
It takes about 2 yrs or so for you to see any length. I’m tbt beginning locs will shrink until they mature, then they form shrink as much so you see the length. I’ve had my microlocs for 5 yrs btw. Just be patient and perhaps use wraps to switch it up .
Yes absolutely! It grows and it is so surprising the way they evolve. I'm really happy with them. I hope you are seeing them evolve too.
Today is my first loc journey I never had them before
I have fine hair too! Only a year into my SL journey. I am have really been enjoying your content these last few weeks. Your hair is BEAUTIFUL!

That's amazing! I wish her the best journey of all! 💖 My daughter is also tender headed and I'm trying to convince her to loc. She says no for now
I understand that sisterlocs says not to use oil however sisterlocs is hair.
Thank u for bringing up the size thing!! I’m considering sister locs, but I think I might go a little bit bigger
It’s such an important aspect. Going smaller is not all that it’s cracked up to be. 💖

This can all be avoided by
1. Don't be lazy learn how to do your own hair if worried about money
2. Be hygienic if your not nasty and take care of your hair then.... You get it right
My opinion
1. Don't bring down a hairstyle because it does not work for you
2. You don't need chemical products to take care of your hair, it's just a sham to steal more money
3. Do your RESEARCH before you listen to people who regret their life decisions

something that I don’t see people touch on that worries me. If you have thinner, low density hair this style looks great. But it you have really thick high density hair, it will be too much hair. I already experience that with regular medium sized locs. Sister locs would be way too full
I agree. However, the consultant usually does larger locs for thicker hair. That’s what I understood. The consultation is very important. 💖
@@AnnyKeyz you’re right!
l know this is not for me but I was curious and your video is very informative.
Thank you...
I wanted sister locs to be able to fit under a wig but the big hair lover in me is on the offense for regular locs
Sisterlocks will get thick too after a few years. But they’ll fit under a wig in the beginning for sure. My hair is fine and I have a hard time wearing a regular size beanie now.
Great video!!! You made it clear.
Agree with pretty much all of the Cons. I've had my Sisterlocks for five years and considering cutting them off.
Yeah... I understand... I love my hair, but can imagine a time when I will have enough. Who knows when that will come. 💖
Hi! Why don’t you use rose water anymore?
I’ve never used rose water on my locs. I don’t like flowery scents and I don’t like the scent of roses.
Oh… that question wasn’t for me… sorry… 😔
What made you choose to change from microlocs to sisterlocs?
What is the average cost for installation and maintenance ?? How often should they be retightened?
Installation costs truly depends on where you are and who is doing it (trainee vs certified consultant). It also depends on your hair length. Roughly it is between 500$ and 1000$ for 5 inches of hair. Do not quote me... The consultant determines the pricing. But just to give you an idea...
You need a retie every 4 weeks in the beginning. Then it goes to 5 weeks. Right now I try to go every 6 weeks, but life happens and I do go passed that fairly often.
@@AnnyKeyz definitely an investment, but I think it’s worth it! Hopefully I can find a certified consultant 🤞🏽 Thank you!

My pleasure! I’m glad, because I really wanted it to be helpful. 😀💖

@mortalwombat78 But what about the time? You were fine with it? I did not want to do my hair any more that's why the lesser of two evils was paying. I prefer paying than doing it myself. I'm just not that talented. But again very happy with my decision.
Nice tips! I love your hair
I like the fresh grid look 😂😂😂
Thanks for sharing Sis. What are some of the rules please?
It’s mainly in the beginning there are little things that you have to do like braiding and banding and do not color for many months, use a special shampoo (the starter shampoo), no conditioner on the locs, no products on the locs like oils and moisturizers and not wash your hair too often… I think that’s it… 💖
Question, is it safe to get an EEG done with having sisterlocks? Thanks
Oh… The medical exam? I can only guess that it may be hard to get an accurate reading with locs. It’s better to ask a doctor for this. I’ve never needed to get an EEG. But in general I’ve known people who have removed their locs for medical reasons.

Thanks for the video. Where are you from?
I just had a baby and experienced thinning edges. Should I wait until the edges have returned to sister loc it or is it ok to just do...
Thanks! Your hair is gorgeous!! What do you recommend to cover gray?
I don’t do it. But that’s personnal preference. I would say, if your consultant says your hair is ready and this is something you want to do, go ahead. It’s really about doing what is best for you in the end.
Thank you I appreciate your honesty

I wonder if you can use colored conditioner or henna to color your gray… I use henna

What r the rules? And what do you consider expensive? $1000?
$1200 for me back in 2020. I live in AR, and some charge up to $2000 depending on the length of the hair.

Cover your hair before cooking. As a black woman, you should know this already.
@@feyiplus4500 Omgod lol how’d I not know this. Black card revoked again lol 😂
Absolutely 💖
I noticed my sisterlocks are breaking off at the root...maybe from thinning sisterlocks. Its not alot but I am still concerned. Please tell me what I can do to combat this
@@AnnyKeyz i did ask her but she didn't give me an answer to help me
@@AnnyKeyz thank you

No problem... ❤️
No one should ever be made to feel like they have to hide there hair..
Of course not...
Some people did that on their own because they dont like the initial look when the locks are thin and have not puffed up yet.
I think this is not for us here in Africa where braiding and locking is part of our normal lives.
💖
I want to be able to color my hair
It’s not forever. It’s until your hair locs or until your loctician says it’s ok. But it’s always ultimately your decision. You decide what you want to do with your hair.
The brand Sisterlocks are overrated. Anyone can put in microlocs with good instruction.
I agree with this actually. I've talked about it a lot on my channel. But I'm still glad I've done my hair like this, Microlocs or Sisterlocks... I don't have the skills or patience to do it myself.
I enjoyed this video
All this was why I knew I didn’t want any kind of microlocs
Yes... I understand. Most people around me say the same thing. 💖
I wish I had watch the video before, because I really do not them on me, and it cost so much money.
Oh noooo... I'm sorry to read you don't like them! I hope they grow on you. How long have you had them?
@@AnnyKeyz Just a day, but I have made a big mistake. I don't have the patience to wait for them to grow and puff out. I did not realize I would look like a plucked chicken.
I’m sure it’ll be close to what you want in just a few weeks. Hang in there… 💖
Thak you for your information and your opinions, is a journey and a personal journey, different people have different hair types and the hair behave differently under different circumstances. Respect.
Thank you
i still havent gotten the diff between sister and micro locs! is just the whole trademark thing
No its not just the legal paperwork of a trademark. Its that there are different patterns within Sisterlocks for different types of hair and there are specific techniques and tools for maintenance.
Yes 💖
Im installing my own as we speak and my goodness i want to stop 😂
Wow! How did it go? 💖😳
@AnnyKeyz so far so good I love that I can just get up and go. I'm in love with rhe style took me 7 days to finish
Thank You
My pleasure! 💖
So you say don’t get sister locks 4 years later you still have it yourself lol😂
Oh… no… the video is to share the negative parts of Sisterlocks. Nothing is always rainbows and sunshine all the time. It’s better to know what you’re getting into before; the good the bad and the ugly. I couldn’t just share the good. But I don’t have many videos sharing the bad. I really love my locs. The majority of my videos about them show that. But, I myself wanted to know about everything when I was researching to make an informed decision. I shared everything I could in the beginning…. 💖
Beautiful commentary on SL 😊
But please be careful out here when it comes to your SL , everyone is not out here for your good on your hair periodT.
And her attitude was definitely from awful 😞
If you feel it in your gut, please do your research. Do not go to the first person you see! This is my second set of Sisterlocks. Soon I will be doing a channel myself regarding my Sisterlock journey. 😉 I made sure that I told as many folks as I could… be safe out here when it comes to your hair.
That's great advice! 💖 that's what's great about social media, we can share our different experiences and help each other out.
