    Before I started my current Loc journey I constantly wore faux locs I was able to experiment with sizes and the amounts before committing. Just an idea for those that aren’t sure what will look best on them ❤

    I have 80 medium locs, 4B/4C hair, started a little over a year ago. Absolute best decision ever. I’ve never felt so happy yet so free with my hair. It’s been a beautiful journey.

    I have 4c hair that's both dense and fine (and I have a big ol head). Basically means that I have a lot of hair on my head, but when they are braided/twisted it looks less full. So I got small two strand twists installed that I get interlocked. I think the final count was around 250. 2 years in and very happy. I think the biggest surprise was just how much my locs expanded over time, but that really helped with the fullness. I think that's something to think about. I think the more dense the hair on your head is, the more your locs will likely expand

    • @CourtneyGrayton
      @CourtneyGrayton  11 місяців тому +21

      Yes, I actually wish I touched on that in this video but it slipped my mind. They definitely do expand if your hair is more dense! Glad you’re enjoying the journey ❤️

    • @GoingIntoBattle
      @GoingIntoBattle 11 місяців тому +6

      Thank you for mentioning this, I did not take expansion into consideration. So if someone has dense hair, can they start off having micro locs, and then end up having small locks after their locks expanded?

    • @RandySoWavvy
      @RandySoWavvy 10 місяців тому +7

      @@GoingIntoBattle depends on the method also plaits, interlock, and sister Loc methods don’t allow too much expanding especially compared to 2 strand twist or coil Locs

    Loc size talking from experience is the most crucial decision to make . it’ll determine a lot! iv found through experience that the size needs to be neither too small neither big but thin enough . thicker locks have so many cons and don’t lock quick . Thinner locs loc way faster. I’m 4 months in thin locs bigger than sisterlocs of course and they locked so fast plus they retain the retwist for so long. Love them. With my thicker locs I had previously , the retwist will last 1 day only. I cut them and started afresh. happier now with small size plus it’s neater and more volume. Goodluck !

    This is weirdly the hardest thing I'm struggling with while planning my journey. I have an undercut, so just figuring out sizing as have 1/3 of my head shaved and like to have some volume to compensate but not too much for whenever I inevitably decide to grow it out down the road.

    This is my 4th set and I have 140 locs. I love this number so far. I’m only 5 months in. I don’t style them but I’m 48, perimenopausal and have a little thinning in my crown. I made this set smaller for more volume and I will probably keep them shorter to reduce the weight as they get longer. I have 4a hair. I made the back the size of a small pencil (smedium) and the perimeter and middle are large small locs if that makes any sense. I interlock the small locs and semi freeform the locs in the crown.

    I wanted my locs small for versatility reasons. I was aiming for small locs. More scalp access (I have psoriasis), more versatility, less scalpy look, more fullness. My hair is fine with medium/low density. I wouldn’t have minded going slightly bigger and maybe aim for 130/125 locs but I love how they are now. My 151 are perfect lol

I'm asking because I like the textured or curled end loc look but not sure if 2 strand or coil would be best for it. Hi Courtney, thank you for sharing this information w us. I have 4C hair, and it’s very thick and course. How can I tell the density though? (If anyone else sees this and Courtney doesn’t, please help me out 😊❤thanks).

    • @CourtneyGrayton
      @CourtneyGrayton  6 місяців тому

      Hi! My pleasure. Density is really the amount of strands on your head. There’s no real way to measure it, but it’s usually just low, medium, or high. You can have a natural hair specialist help you to determine. You said “thick” so I would assume it’s a higher density, but I’d need to see it to confirm

    Hi!
    My last count was at 152!! But i may have combined a few really loose & unraveling ones. Mine will hopefully be small....locs...i do hope they get fatter though!! I had my 1st official retwist...& now...they are all skinny & scalpy....looking again.😮😅 like the 1st day of starter locs!! And she told me not to use water?? I was misting daily...but now im totally confused. 😮
    The texture now feels like soft yarn??? I thought i had 4c..but maybe not?? My hair is thin & low density. Hopefully my 150 + locs will help w/ fullness. So far...i still love my little baby locs!!😅😊❤

    • @CourtneyGrayton
      @CourtneyGrayton  11 місяців тому +3

      150 should be fairly full! And usually after a retwist starter locs do look much skinnier. I personally would tell you to keep misting every few days but just don’t drench your hair with water. She probably suggested it because it might make her job easier, but the hair needs hydration!

I want thick locs and not too many. I don't care about styling them I do it for the culture 🤎 so do you have any suggestions for like no more than 24/30 locs should I start them as 2 str twist or braids? Plus I deal with inflammation sometimes reason for wanting them to be thicker 😢😊thanks in advance
