- Shot on a 1st generation Betamax tube camera, it struggled with the muggy light of a late Summer evening at Rotherham Masborough. The station was under threat of closure at the time but a handful of services were still calling after most local traffic had been diverted to a re-opened Rotherham Central from 11th May 1987. I can't find my notes but from the public timetable it would appear captured were : An HST on 15.25 Newcastle - Plymouth, followed by a DMU calling on the 14.22 (SO) Blackpool North - Moorthorpe. A pair of 20's return light to Tinsley. Met Cam unit on 16.45 York - Sheffield calls and finally a Peak on what I can only assume is the 09.58 Penzance - Leeds. The loco probably going on at Birmingham New St. Original tape has phasing problems so quite alot of processing has been applied to (hopefully) make it at least watchable.
Thank You for filming and uploading memories of Rotherham Masborough. If only the HD camcorders that we have now could have been available before all our local stations were obliterated. So many memories lost forever! Thanks to people like you at least we have something to see of what is now history.
Brilliant footage, great quality. I was two years old at the time of filming. My great Grandad use to take me down to Masborough see the "bang-a-bangs" as I called them. Lived just around the corner.

...misnamed by the Midland, LMS and BR as the district has always been Masbrough...

How come the signs only had “Rotherham” on them and not “Rotherham Masborough”? I could never understand that.
That station had a handful of name changes over the years. It was renamed just Rotherham around 1969 loosing the Masborough.. Used to love that big black heater with the guard around it in the little waiting room across platform. To confuse things Rotherham Central station was once called Rotherham & Masborough in yje 1880's
