  • Both the Marzocchi Bomber Z1 and Z2 ride great and offer a more reasonable price point than the super high end forks out there, but you might be having a hard time figuring out which is best for you. In this video Mike distinguishes the differences between both forks to help you figure out if the Bomber Z1 or Bomber Z2 is best for you.

This really helped decide on which fork to go with. Just placed an order for the Z1 29/27.5+ air fork at 140mm (44mm offset) for my Honzo ST build. Gonna try out a 27.5+ set up and I can always go back to 29 with ease.

Got me a Z2 over a month ago and what a difference from the old santour. Love the fork and gives me more confidence on the trails since it is very supportive. I have it on my HT Raleigh Tokul 3 with 120mm travel. Definitely recommend the Z2!

I wish I could post a picture of my firebird 29 wearing a z1 coil down below. 5 clicks out rebound, medium spring, 180 wheight. Rode trail instantly more confident and trying to push it. Never got to use full travel. And I bought it from The Lost Co because these videos are so informative! Keep it up!

Great video man and the "your name here" had me lul'ing. As a lighter rider who definitely leans toward more aggressive riding I decided on a 140mm Z1 from my now 130mm Recon RL. The slight change in HTA isnt that big of a deal. 10mm doesnt mess with anything too much and just offers a little more protection for the hucks to flat. Also I think the GRIP damper is a better choice, THICC stanchions, more tuneable, and options for upgrades in the future... For 200 bucks? Seems worth it. After blowing out the Recon I think this is gonna be an awesome upgrade! Thanks for the help!

Honestly, I’m a morbidly obese dad with a salsa timberjack hardtail. I have had the 130mm z2 for about three months and couldn’t be happier. I ride all kinds of NorCal trails and couldn’t imagine better suspension. I got the black version and put electrical tape over the white writing, it’s clean.

Very good review, and I confirm one very important information: over 140mm, the flex of the Z2 is an issue and you'd better go for a Z1. Moreover, the Z2 has a current problem of bushing play (cast bushing BTW, unreplaceable), and Fox doesn't propose any real solution to solve the problem. Read the multiples forums about that issue if you don't wanna be disappointed like I was. Cheers!

Exactly. Got a 2021 brand new one out of warranty and lasted two weeks. Getting back to mountain biking after 15 yrs it was a very unpleasant realisation both financially and emotionally. Fox was one of the most distiguished fork brands not so long ago. Now it is just something to avoid no matter what other brand name they put on. I tried to get in touch with Fox to see of there is any fix for the issue but never got a reply. I'm happily using a Rock Shox Lyrik now. I wish I knew this before

Question: Grey area. I'm 250lbs, but I ride a Santa Cruz Chameleon 29er and SC has told me max recommended travel is 130mm (29er, but 140mm for 27.5). In this scenario should I be getting a Z1 and 36mm stanchions but exceeding travel recommendations? Then I affect HTA, BB height and STA right? Wouldn't it be better to stick to say 130mm and whatever size stanchions are available?

Fox 36 with Grip 2. I have around 260lbs. My old bike had a Fox 34 and I had to put in max airpressure (120psi) for right sag. My new bike had stock a Fox 36 Grip damper. The 36 only needs 100psi for right sag. I am a really fast rider and on really gnarly terrain I went through travel. Bought a Grip 2 damper and I can ride the same terrain faster and need 2cm less travel. It feels also alot better than stock Grip damper.

The Z2 maxxes out at 150mm. The stanchions on Fox and Marzocchi forks measure +10mm longer when measuring from the top of the dust wiper to the bottom of the crown. If you in fact have a Z2 and are measuring it at ~160mm, it is actually a 150mm fork.

It went together easily in less than an hour. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.
