6 years later, and I've been considering one of the greats for a while now! My first introduction to his work was his Guitar Center Drum Off Solo. Me, as a 11/12 yo kid and aspiring drummer, couldn't handle some of the mindfucks that were caused by JP's playing. Good to see that he's not one of those drummers from that competition, who just won it and disappeared
One of the best young guys out there...Has awesome feel, timing, dynamics, technique....He's very "musical unique"...He's like the Mosquito in a stack of Honey Bee's when I think of other drummer's styles of today !!!
gnarly drumming holy fack! amazing tune almost sounds like a hybrid of Snarky Puppy and Mars Volta! Bangin riffs...sounds like a grooving 11 in the first half? some 5s flying by
This evoked a lot of different and strong moods....typical of a jp solo and no one does it like this guy. Had to rewind to count a couple of those grooves
+Alex Neely Those are a non-Meinl product. Let's ask +JPBouvet himself what they are? JP - Any info you could provide would be gladly appreciated. Thanks!
+Emilios Antoun This man is correct. Ankle bells. They were a gift from a friend. Not too hard to find though, once you know that they're called ankle bells. Godspeed.
+JPBouvet +MEINL Cymbals - Check out AFROTON. A german Brand such as Meinl ;) They do percussion stuff and Ankle Bells. I just got one and it's awesome. Huge inspiration from JP on that ;)
Fairly common man, different Mics give different sounds/qualities even when in the same position so it can sound sick to blend a couple. Search for mic comparison videos, they usually show 4-5 in the same place and the differences can be huge!
I know the drumming is the main focus, but the guitar sounded terrible. Seriously. It sounds like they set the extremely cheap guitar and cheap amp/s on fire, then submerged them in water, threw them around a bit, then set them on fire and submerged them again.
JP's on his way to become one of the drumming greats.
+Musa Tariq for sure

This is such a GREAT PERFORMANCE!!!. JP is clearly a great musician!
JP ever since drum off I've been a huge fan, Keep up the great work
The subdivision they throw on at 1:15 (taking the bar and dividing it by five I believe) literally made my jaw drop. So goddamn filthy.
Holy cow! Jp Bouvet is always a beast in the pocket!!!!!! Beautiful set also!!
How could anyone dislike this? JP is killer.

This dude is truly special. Very versatile and has a lot of substance in his playing.

Great song in 11/4!! Increidible composition, really grooving
This is lovely !!! Just lovely !!!

Oh damn.... You really hit the mark on this one!
So tasteful ! Congrats JP, awesome performance :)
3:53-4:06 is one of the sickest things I've ever heard on a drumset in my ENTIRE EFFING LIFE 😦🤤
so smooth!
Great snare sound!
Cool track! Going to find it on Apple Music right now...
Please, Jp, stop blowing my mind! (I'm just kidding, please KEEP doing this hahaha as always, AWESOME drumming!)
Amazing playing. Does he ever put a foot wrong
Best thing to come out of my home MN. Unless you're a Prince or Bob Dylan fan I guess.
Or a Replacements and Husker Du fan 😁

What do you have on your hi hat
Does anyone know where to find that arm like the one on his second high hat.. On his right side? It looks like a cymbal arm but it isnt

What are on top of the left-side hats?

Awesome, I like the sound. Thanks for your help, friends!
What's with the two batter head snare mic situation? Never seen that before.
+Tyler Beasley The two mics on top are a Shure SM 57 and an AKG 451. It was the engineer's call to put two mics on the batter side head.

Awesome drumming! Question, could you tell me which are the microphones that are being used for the toms?
Cheers
Dope!!
this drummer is fucking sick nice job
Beast.
THE BEAST
How do I put tape on my kit like that?
what.the.fuck is happening lmao JP is too good
Anyone know what time signature that is?
all of them
I might be wrong, but I feel like the main groove might be just 4/4 in quintuplets? (See Anika Nilles)

warning or more of an advice. don't listen to this with apple headphones. to enjoy this mix you need proper studio headset
What just happened?? Mind 🤯
He's gonna be like the Vinnie Colaiuta of my generation.
is it just me or does this sound like a the mars Volta song w/o vox?
😱
OMG i died
100% inspired by Montreal - mark Lettieri
Sounds like Mestis.
5's...
very good playing but some other cymbals from Meinl would have served that music better; those sound too brittle and not focused enough¡¡
Still can't count this lol😂
That bass drum is just not good at all I gotta be honest
yawn..

Interesting! We're digging that sound!! It's so gritty articulate, though minimal!
