he did so many songs and so many different genres from Sabbath and Black label society to AAL to 80s stuff like Extreme, Vai, Malmsteen. All in 1 gig, Generation Axe. The whole backing band for that show was insanely good

These are good, but the listen with no drums and their interpretation are the best. Gets you inside their brain instead of a mere copy.

Yeah, the magic of this series is that they have to come up with their own take. Reverting back to giving them the drum track has taken the excitement and appeal out of it from a non-drummer perspective.

well, from a drummer's perspective, these are invaluable. it gives you little tips and hints of what to do when you get a last minute call to a gig.
of course the other 'half' of the series is also amazing

My Mr Nobody two cents to the new generation: Block your fandom mind set and just listen to everything that you can and be a sponge. Because even drummers you dislike can show you tricks to add to your skill set .

This was great, I love seeing how other drummers work and I also love when they hear it with no drums and play what they think should be there(essentially writing the drum line for the song 😎👌)when I played on multiple bands I would just listen to the songs(if a cover band once)and then play them live with the band for changes and adapt on the fly. I always just memorized the material and never made notes unless I was writing the song and then only until we played it cuz then I was committing it to memory. I personally never understood music so I listened and watched others to learn to play. Only later did I learn to read music and see it from that perspective. Either way you find what works and run with it 😎👌
