    These are good, but the listen with no drums and their interpretation are the best. Gets you inside their brain instead of a mere copy.

      Yeah, the magic of this series is that they have to come up with their own take. Reverting back to giving them the drum track has taken the excitement and appeal out of it from a non-drummer perspective.

      well, from a drummer's perspective, these are invaluable. it gives you little tips and hints of what to do when you get a last minute call to a gig.
      of course the other 'half' of the series is also amazing

    My respect for this man went up when he learned the periphery set list in limited time and pulled that shit off. What a Awesome guy. And now he says he play animals as leaders songs. Whaaaat. Dude that's siiiiick

      he did so many songs and so many different genres from Sabbath and Black label society to AAL to 80s stuff like Extreme, Vai, Malmsteen. All in 1 gig, Generation Axe. The whole backing band for that show was insanely good

    Hey guys! This is so awesome!!! I work with Mammoth and his producer Elvis. Wolf is an AMAZING musician, so stoked y’all chose one of his songs. Seeing him play is an absolute treat in the studio. He’s hands down one of my favorite drummers ever! Two thumbs up! Big fan of the channel ❤ 😁

    Mammoth is incredible. I've seen them open for Alter Bridge a few times now and they always deliver. Wolfgang has a great voice and a natural charismatic ability to connect to the audience. Can't recommend enough seeing them live.

    This was great! This video gave me an idea of another take on this series. What about having a drummer play one of their favorite songs BUT in the way THEY think it should be played. :) I love all of your content! Thanks for posting such amazing videos!

    Fun Fact: this guy played drums for Generation Axe (super group with Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, Zakk Wylde, Nuno Bettencourt, and Tosin Abasi). If you have a gig with 5 of the greatest guitarists in music history, you’re no slouch.

      forget Generation Axe. The true OG's remember him from Guitar Center's drum off. I believe that's what gave him his big break. Happy to see he didnt black into obscurity

    I got around to listening to WVH and I love his stuff. He’s a killer drummer too. He’s super humble in his interviews too. He’d be someone interesting to have at Musora for several different vids, guitar, singing, drums

    I play in a cover band and had to do this exact thing with Jet City Woman - Queensryche. That song has a loooottttt of nuanced changes sprinkled through the whole track (which is quite long).
    I had much more time to do it, but I made a lead sheet for studying on in my down time when I'd listen to the song and air jam it until I could get behind my kit. 🙂

    I'm not a drummer, but one of the first videos that got me hooked on the drum side of youtube, was a little video years ago called "Berklee Chops Volume 2" where a certain mohawked dude rocked the set with a bunch of talented musicians...
    ...time flies man.

    I’ve been using a Byzance Big Apple Jazz Ride as a crash ride for years. I don’t see many people using these but they sound great as a crash.

    This was great, I love seeing how other drummers work and I also love when they hear it with no drums and play what they think should be there(essentially writing the drum line for the song 😎👌)when I played on multiple bands I would just listen to the songs(if a cover band once)and then play them live with the band for changes and adapt on the fly. I always just memorized the material and never made notes unless I was writing the song and then only until we played it cuz then I was committing it to memory. I personally never understood music so I listened and watched others to learn to play. Only later did I learn to read music and see it from that perspective. Either way you find what works and run with it 😎👌

    From the top-down, his kick pedal looks like it's setup at an angle. Not sure if that's the case, but never seen one setup like that. The beater looks like it's swinging at a slight angle to the head. Either way JP is amazing. Really enjoyed the Drum Department with him recently too.

    This series is about the only drum series on the web that makes me wish I had something like this back fifty years ago when I was learning. My Mr Nobody two cents to the new generation: Block your fandom mind set and just listen to everything that you can and be a sponge. Because even drummers you dislike can show you tricks to add to your skill set .

    JP is a beast, had the pleasure to have a private masterclass with him at a friend's house for a whole few hours with a few other fellow drummers a few years ago. A good friend of mine won that one at a competion at JPs website. JP if you read this, we had a very good time at Bernardos house in Kiel Germany that day. Awesome memories 💪🏻💪🏻

    Something he didn't mention is that he used to play for punk projects too like drew ofthe drew and helicopria so this was a piece of cake for him lmao and obviously, combining that with his out-of-the-world ability to listen to songs and make notes in a few minutes. JP is the most versatile session drummer you'll ever see.

      Oh dang, I didn’t even notice that. The pedal seems very stable even though he’s hitting it a LOT on this track. Must be weighted down or just an otherwise very well designed and balanced pedal

    I think the real take from this is just how sneaky good Wolf is as a drummer. If you've ever seen Wolf do his own songs, it's damn near effortless. I think Wolf is pretty close to as good as Dave Grohl on Drums, but exponentially better as a guitar player.

    You guys should do something on Soundgarden. And pick songs like ‘Face Pollution’ or ‘Jesus Christ Pose’ which shows technical chops of Matt Cameron. I hear too many people bitching about how he is a shit drummer in PJ. People need a reminder.

    You didn’t ask, but I feel compelled to share. I prefer when the drummers to learn the song without the drum track. These ones are a bit less interesting. Maybe it’s the artists who don’t want to do it, I don’t know. Just sharing.
