  • Model Railway Update 9 is here!
It's been a while since we showed you the progress in our train shed.
In this video we fixed down the last of the baseboards, including making a hole for the turntable to sit in. We also installed some curtains across the doorway as at certain time bright sunlight shines directly into the room and we were concerned about it damaging our models.
Then we began construction of the lifting bridge section to go across the doorway. Until this point we have simply been using a plank resting on supports at either end, but this is now a much stronger board, hinged at one end and with a locking bolt to secure it at the other.
We don't get onto the track laying across the bridge in this video, but we have now done this and it will be included in the next Model Railway Update, which we hope to publish soon.
Simon was very involved in this project and he has been learning how to use some of the tools safely, under close supervision of course!

my 3 year old and I are living vicariously through your videos as we don’t have the space (or handy skills) for a layout this cool!
always a great day when simon’s train adventures uploads! 😁

Great job building the lift bridge, now you have easy access to enter and exit your train shed without damaging the layout.
How do you connect the track together without hindering the lift mechanism?
The steamrail open day was bonza, and I loved every moment of it. Where else in world you can have so many steam locomotives come together in the yards where they were built?
I also bumped into an old friend of mine, John Hoy. He was the operations and engineering manager for Puffing Billy railway, but now he is vice president and operations manager for the Victorian Goldfields Railway in Maldon. When I was a boy, he would kindly let me have a ride on the footplate, and it was wonderful to see him again.
Wish you the best for completing the ingenious lifting bridge. If I had a train shed of my own, I would like to do that.
    Take care Simon
    Kevig

The open day sounds amazing. Glad you had a good day out. The track over the bridge is tricky but is nearly done. It will be in the next update, so stay tuned!

Hi both. What an excellent shed you have for your layout. I see you'll be installing a turntable. Have you seen the turntable surround sold by Scenic3D These help to improve the transition into the scenery. "Grandad's Train Room" video #20 explains how he installed his.

Thanks for watching. I’ve not seen that turntable before, but I’ll check it out.
