    Surprised anyone would NOT like the remote. I thought LG's inclusion of a remote for navigating the menu was a huge plus. I absolutely cannot stand navigating monitor menus using some tiny joystick hidden under the bezel having to click click click through every submenu all while my arm falls asleep from reaching out across my desk and over my keyboard to do it. Will take a remote any day.

      There's always going to be a couple outliers of course! But most people would love to use a remote instead of fumbling around with hard to read buttons or monitor nipples. Especially those who can actually afford a monitor like these and working people with credit.

      The problem is that it's the only way to navigate the monitor's menus, and if you lose the remote...

    yeah i was recently considering these two monitors, i think if i went ahead with one of them it would've been the Alien-ware because of its aspect ratio. Ultimately they were out of my price range, i just couldn't justify the cost (Alienware went down from £1000 to 700) so i went with the 390hz Acer Nitro (got it for £300). i think high refresh OLED is very promising though and absolutely cant wait to see what we end up with in a couple of years.

    I have the AW3423DWF and I considered both. As of this writing there seem to be fewer issues with the AW online. That being said one thing on the Ultrawide when playing games fixed where black bars appear, over time you will wear the lit areas so they are less bright than the sides; it’s not hugely noticeable but it’s an issue you would not encounter with the LG standard format.

    I love my Alienware QD OLED. I couldn’t go back to a 16:9 format, though it does mean you’ll need top tier gpu’s to run the extra pixels. I find running HDR in windows a little hit and miss and I have the older G-Sync version that can’t be firmware upgraded which does suck. I use mine for both gaming and for work, which feels like having 2 monitors when snapping 2 programs to each side.

Subpixel layout may even be changed slightly delivering sharper text and less frinding. This is probably why DWF and other QD-OLED monitors dropped alot of price recently. 1st gen is still good tho but personally I want 240 Hz and HDMI 2.1 and hopefully DP 2.1 so that you can do 3440x1440 at 240 Hz without DSC and with full 4:4:4 Chroma.

    I've got both for my three monitor setup. Might get another 27 oled in a year or so to replace the last IPS monitor with OLED. Ergotron LX holds all three fine. I would never not have an Ultrawide in my setup, as this alienware replaced a Dell ultrawide with the same screen size (no curve, I'd prefer a no curve OLED).
    Alienware occasionally freezes when switching inputs, and I have to pull out the powercord for 10 seconds before restarting the device. Other than that both monitors are great.

      For proper scaling through HDMI you have to enable 'Auto resize' in OSD.
      This doesn't work with display port connection. You have to go to the Nvidia/AMD control panel and change the scaling from 'monitor' to 'graphic card'. Also you need to run games in full screen (not borderless).

You can use window mode to play in 16:9 but you need cursor lock. Otherwise the cursor will exit the game window when all you intended was to pan camera.

    Just wanted to clarify, but isn't there a special 1000 nits brightness setting on both panels that has to be used for that 1000 nits brightness claim? Or was that only for Samsung panels and not the LG?
    I've been researching all these OLED monitors for weeks/months and I think my final conclusion is: I'll wait for many planned releases next year. 4k 32" 240hz sounds like a monitor I'll keep and be happy with for many years. I'd love to get the Alienware today, but I think exercising a little patience will mean a happier purchase that lasts a long time.
    One other thing I've been wondering, but none of the current displays are deploying their version of Micro Lens Array technology to boost brightness like this year's OLED TVs, correct? Perhaps something else we'll see next year, however it was not on the leaked roadmaps from either manufacturer.

      The LG OLED monitor is MLA, and it's still way too dim.

    • @CasepbX
      @CasepbX Рік тому

      I have the Alienware and it indeed does have a setting called HDR Peak 1000 in the Smart HDR setting. Without that on it is very dim. Also without Windows 10 being set to HDR it will be very dim. SDR on these OLEDs is pretty much unusable for me because of how dim they are. I've have 2 OLED screens so far, the LG CX and the Alienware.

    • @theextraordinarypants4909
      @theextraordinarypants4909 Рік тому

      @@CasepbX my understanding is, while improving brightness, that setting sacrifices color accuracy.
      I think it's definitely the year for a OLED TVs, but the monitors need another generation. Some choices seemed questionable in these builds. With your Alienware, have you set a custom resolution to get 165hz refresh with true 10 bit color? I'm wondering why Displayport 2.1 and HDMI 2.1 ports were not standard for all of these monitors rather than tricks like Display Stream Compression or capping the refresh rate to stay under the connection's bandwidth. Sometimes it feels like these choices were a conscious degradation of the technological options.
      I hope you're really enjoying it! It doesnt ruin colours at all as long as the app supports HDR correctly and the HDR implementation is good. Also you need to use the shortcut to turn off and on HDR mode... I decided to save $250 and also give myself an option to use 21:9. It also features a better screen as it is QD Oled. People complained about LG's matty panel so it was a no brainer to pick Alienware.

      I did the same! Another cool thing about the Alienware that I don't see many people mention is that fact that you can scale the monitor down to 16:9 and it displays native 4K resolution. In my opinion, it's the best of both worlds. Mine gets in tomorrow, can't wait!

Why limit your OLED panel to only playing games when for the same or less money you can get a 42 or 48" LG C2 or C3 that can play games beautifully @ 4K/120Hz and then stream your favorite movie or TV show afterward. I've used a 48" CX since 2020 as my all around gaming monitor/streaming TV and it still rocks after 20,772 hours of use. I used to game on a Nvidia surround 3x1440p monitor setup and got tired of games not supporting 21:9 multi-monitor. Once the OLEDs came down in price and size it was a no brainer. 1. LG generally is more eye friendly and have warmer color tones, but with Samsung it is always the opposite despite more pleasant looking colors. Samsung literally ruins the eyes.
    2. LG has been working on OLED technology for at least 3 or 4 years longer than Samsung and they kept trying various methods to prevent or minimalize OLED burn ins. Samsung on the other hand only started using OLED technology for 1 year. And they use crazy higher brightness. As a result, not only they lack LG's experience in fighting with burn ins, but they also keep stressing the panel with higher brightness. Evidently Samsung QD-OLED TVs have far more reports of Burn ins compared to LG OLED Evo series.
