Hope you don't hate me for this, but this was my personal experience. I know there's a hate train out there on Reddit and Steam reviews, but I experienced almost everything that others did. I loved the game for the first 8 hours and I do believe that Battlefield 2042 has immense potential to turn things around and be a great game... it's just not here at launch. I'm disappointed because I've been anticipating this game for so long.
Honestly i could care less if battlefield dies off like medal of honor did

I have the game on ps5 and I can honestly say I’m enjoying the game even though it does have its bugs….I personally never experienced frame problems on the ps5 and I really haven’t experienced alot of rubber banding or too much bad server performance but I did experiences the bugs where I couldn’t crouch and had to respawn and not being able to revive teammates or be revived. Personally my issues really are the vehicles….they’re wayyyy to overpowering and it takes the fun away bc in the right hands vehicles can be a menace. I do see alot of potential in the game but it does need some work put into it.
They should redoo the battlefilde remake and fix bugs glith and ad a banning sistom antihacking and ad more battlefiled games to portle like bf1
Played bf2042 for 30+ hours . Has all the issues you mentioned. I got on BF4 this morning and the soldier movement and vehicle physics are night and day. The movement feels weird its definitely off and the jumping is like floaty it's not quick like bf4 . Bf4 movement allows you to evade gun fire this game is restrictive. I can deal with bugs missing features... But movement is everything for me and . I would fix the hit reg firstly then movement then cleanup bugs and add missing features. And only gripe about the specialist is WHY DO THEY HAVE TO LOOK SAME FOR BOTH FACTIONS
WW1 had over 60 million soldiers participating in the war. This "WW3" of sorts taking place in 2042 only has 10 participants.

A diverse cast of soldiers will temporarily come out of their safe-zones to hurl the wrong pronouns at each other.
Not every game needs operators and Battlefield is one of those examples. When I play Battlefield I think of grunts in convention military units, not loose cannon operators with their own outfits that bring out their personalities.

The specialists are just there so they can include token representations in the characters
In Battlefield 1, at the start of a match of St. Quentin Scar you see a town but at the end of the match you see nothing but rubble. It shows how war devastates the land of where you’re fighting.
Didn't like bf1's setting but the destruction was still on point.

The massive hype that was built around this game and the amount of times that the devs said "its ahead of its schedule in development" and all that caused these reviews,they promised but didn't fulfill,yet. (i hope)
They knew what they were doing. It was marketing... thats it. And yeah it's DICE but we needa pay attention to the Developers. If devs that worked on BF4 and what not leave DICE then we will know what to expect in future games
Personally, a 5/10 is being quite generous. The general quality of life stuff in this game was thrown out the window and all but a few weapons are useless.
I would like my money back.
tbh for a battlefield this is more like a 3/10
3 out of 10 for me. No hate to those who like it, it's just not something I can tolerate.
It seems like the developers knew after the initial flop of BFV (their shift in direction away from former battlefields), they knew BF2042 would be their last chance to revive the franchise… in that panic, they tried to pull elements from popular games like Apex and COD in a last ditch effort to make people fall in love. Consequently, it eradicated their large classic Battlefield player base because it isn’t a Battlefield game (yet).
Nevertheless, they've made a great effort. A moment of silence for those who made BF 1 and BF 5. BF V doesn't deserve a hate, i think. Just look at how much Dice have done. Great graphics 13 years ago(BF1), destruction, amount of players(unlike C0D), vehicles, etc. Id don't care which game do you like, but I've never seen any devs that had put that much effort in their games other than Dice.

The devs are idiots and if i know EA will probably be unemployed soon. This is a failure. Honestly all they had to do was take bf4, slap new graphics on it, add some mechanics from bf5 in terms of movement and gunplay and been fine with that for STARTERS. Im glad i dodge a bullet in not buying this & ive been playing bf games since bad company 1

I could have. I feel like this review was way too soft handed with *some* of its critiques. BF2042 is exactly the game I thought it’d be, in the worst way possible I mean.
Glad to see somebody notice the lack of gadget combination like reparir tool + RPG or C4 + Ammo Box or even Respawn Beacon + Soflam (or also C4)

@@diehardGG Same, especially in portal, because when I heard about the specialists system in BF2042, I was really pleased to find out that at least in portal we would get the OG class system, but it appears it's not what I had hoped for

BF 2042 made me reinstall BF1 and i've been enjoying that game way more.
You should try Hell Let Loose. It brings FPS games to a different level when you are communicating by VOIP constantly - intense fun.
I literally played too much BF1 in the past. Throughout BFV I was playing BF1. But BF2042 made me install BFV and now I'm loving it. Thanks DICE for releasing a €70 unfinished, unpolished game cause it made me play BFV at least.

@@macleunin Defintely regret not playing it sooner. I played on PS4 up until level 70ish i think but as an Old BF2 player some things annoyed me now after 2142 I realize i was complaining about the wrong things.
You're spot on with you're depiction of Bf2042. It needed another 8-12 months in the oven. I think this is the last time people let battlefield drop the ball. Sales for the franchise will never be the same.

Battlefield 4 was literally unplayable at launch and it went on to be most successful battlefields of all time. So it probably will get better but that doesn't justify them releasing a completely broken game at launch for $60. I'm not defending them bro.
@@colby8104 dude, ive been playing since battlefield 2. No battlefield 4 was never "unplayable". A bug ridden mess maybe but was definitely playable. Battlefield 2042 however is just a rushed game due to EA knowing pleb fanboys like you will throw their money at it.
It’s insane how much better looking/sounding Battlefield V is compared to 2042. Also BF1 and BFV soundtracks are masterpieces compared to 2042. It really does hurt :/

My theory: This game was to be a battle royal and a hazard zone mode too (spiritual successor type game) but they turned ship with a year to go before release to make a more classic game but used those assists like specialists. So really only a year to make the multiplayer. Hence why so much stuff is missing. Because there is no way they were working on this game for 3 years. Also rumors about higher ups at ea and DICE higher ups telling developers to use popular things from other games. I’m waiting for the article to give us the behind the scene story about what happened with this game (like anthem).
Yea. It seems like they didn't expect Apex to succeed as much as it did after Titanfall 2, so they wanted to make a BR using the battlefield name to compete with fortnite after firestorm flopped. After Apex blew up as much as it did, DICE decided to just pull a 180 and take that battlefield BR and turn it into 2042, but they didn't have enough time so they just pushed it out because EA

The maps are far too open for a battle royale.

@@gurjindersingh3843 I know they are. Too big, and too open. Even for a BR. I wouldn't say they're too big for breakthrough, but 128 players is definitely too many to be fighting over 1 or two objectives in that gamemode.
I too was super underwhelmed by the game. I thoroughly enjoyed battlefield 1 and all what it entailed and this game play couldn't be farther from it
Same if it wasn't for feeling like I'm wasting the $70 I would just keep playing BF1 instead.

I wish they would include a "small" objective gamemode where there are only 64 players on the server but on smaller maps. I enjoy 2042 a lot so far but it's just boring to run around the way to large maps the whole time. I feel like it will be a great game if they improve gunplay and bring back all those little features that bf5 had. If they dont then I'll probably just go back to bf5 because i loved the ww2 setting, gunplay, and movement of that game

@@benjones7117 I want to play 64 player maps too, but I cannot play last gen on pc, all matches goes to 128 players.
They should have operation metro 24/7 server in it at least this map is fun and full of chaos and bring back the bf3 medic defibrillator it so fun running around reviving every one.
For the plus system, the weapon will always start with the 4 attachments in the first slots. So put your most commonly used in those, then you will start with those ones when you spawn. Just worked this out after 14 hours of playing

It's so stupid that learning the ui is a thing ,i an on xbox and that bit you have to press x when in all other games a it's the select button and the description for pressing x makes mo sense .

Don't go so easy so easy on DICE, blaming EA for everything. Some of the flaws you mentioned are bad game design decisions taken by DICE; for example how big and empty the maps are. Level design is not something that developers do 2 months before launch that a publisher has to step in and say, "Our investors are getting impatient, you can add all those buildings in season 1. "

They can maybe smooth out the performance issues, but the game would still suck. Specialists need to go. Nobody asked for them.

Honestly the class system was a part of what drew me into battlefield in the first place, also the game/gun play. Now I feel like I’m playing a new cod and don’t like that, hope the patch in December changes some of those things, however, as of right now 2042 for me is playable and I don’t quit the game after 3 matches so whatever

This game made me realize how much I love games like Squad or Hell Let Loose, games that actually have teamwork and specific roles for your team.
Mate completely bang on!! This was suppose to be the game we were waiting for being a battlefield 3/4 player to my core but this to be the worst launch ever and I just feel devastated now. Great all round review mate 👍🏻

i'm rank 58 now and all i keep thinking is IT HAS NO SOUL i hate my makay character! BFV, BF1 had soul! I had 3000 hours and 5500 hours respectively because of the immersion those games gave me! I loved the chat system, I loved mocking a big mouth who had 5-10 score! i'm so disappointed they have released a game with no soul! it has cemented in me never to preorder again because this launch hurt soo much! Thanks Dice for destroying my fun!

You hit the nail on the head. I love battlefield, but this just feels like it’s in an alpha stage to me. Missing all the game modes and how can you not have a scoreboard. I’m sad to see this game doing so bad. I hope there are some fixes soon
The hover craft taking out the helicopter by flying into it killed me with laughter 🤣. That made my day
Even after the tornados rip through the map, they leave it looking sterile and pristine.
With all the missing features, this game makes Battlefield V look good.

Finally someone who sees portal for what it is and not afraid to say it!
Every single mode feels like Deathmatch. No team play, no squad play, no nothing. Literally all you do is go in get kills and move on to the next round. No personal stats, the same 5 ribbons every game, destroying vehicles is useless because 3 seconds later another one spawns in front of you. It literally feels like i'm playing Unreal Tournament instead of Battlefield.

Hazard Zone is the only thing I was hoping would do it for me. But with 75k credits banked, what’s the grind now? There’s nothing compelling me to hop back in.

I waited 5 years for a modern BF and I’m really really disappointed, I only tried the beta and didn’t like it, it felt like Cod and i think I’m gonna buy it after 6~12 months. Hope they fix the major problems.
Players who have played Battlefield over the last 15 years expect what's built into the brand, thats a class system and engaging maps. The issue reading is the original dev team have all but gone / left Dice and what we have Is a new dev team trying to redesign the wheel and forgetting the main foundations of the last 15 years. Battlefield have been down this road before with Battlefield Hardline, they simply highlighted how disjointed they are from the community again with this 2042 shite.
I just want a updated BF4 or BF3. Those were my favorites in the BF franchise and I'm just getting tired of them moving away from BF because their competitors are making money. It's like RE6 trying to appeal to everyone when they should of focus on their own thing.
I don't like devaluing the work devs have put into a project, but...
How the hell did this game launch? I've played 17 hours so far, and there's a great deal of fun to be had, but it's the most disappointing Battlefield I've played (at launch) since 4. I want to love this game, because when it lands, it lands! It's a lot like 4 in that regard.
And watching the devs celebrate the game like it's the greatest thing they've ever worked on is... frustrating, honestly. As brutal as it sounds, this game is not worthy of praise. Not yet. It's a Minimum Viable Product, and I find that unfortunate.
This video is so on point it's sad. Like I've been playing like you since BC2. And this game generally makes me think that this is really it for BF. It's like a shell of the last few games.
I think BF is dead. You cant go from the goat of bad company 2 and bf4 to this trash or even bf5 buggy mess. This isnt the same company we grew up with
the current state of the major AAA gaming industry developers is beyond sad and disappointing. I don't know what happened that led to normalizing releasing titles in such an unfinished state.
Mainly talking about the tornado thing since that was the biggest part of my friends conversation with me. I knew from the beginning it was going to get old as shit. No matter what if a game adds something that will change a map or mission for the worst even if it happens only once every 100 games it will get beyond obnoxious.
I’m dealing with a tornado in every third round I play it seems… like, really? 🙄

This review out of them all opened my eyes up to what a battlefield was missing.
It sucks that we likely won't see those big changes like leveloution or movement mechanics come to fruition one day since that's literally change the core gameplay itself.

It was obvious to everyone but fanboys. BF games always launch in an absolute nightmare state, and all the hype was based purely off of scripted or entirely cinematic trailers.
Everyone with a brain knew this game would be bad, there was absolutely no reason to think otherwise. People called me an idiot the whole time for pointing out the obvious.
You can tell how much people care about this series. Recent hyped releases have been so disappointing... but imagine how the overworked developers having to sort this out must be going through. I once thought it would be a cool career but probably need to reconsider!
Yeah I think being a developer is probably one of the most demanding jobs and at the end of a several year long project you can get completely flamed online, even if it wasnt your fault
My main criticism is that I am astounded that with the futuristic setting that NV or thermal scopes don't exist on soldier or vehicle??
Enjoyed the use of BFV (and 1) ost - Also thanks for being one of the only people calling out Portal. It does look lifeless but the Battlefield UA-camrs are all saying it is the best thing ever
The biggest issue have that there is NO KEYBOARD AND MOUSE input option in CONSOLES and NO CONTROLLER input option in PC
When they showed off the portal I was crazy hyped to play BC2, unfortunately it’s busted as hell. I think I was more disappointed that they upped the player count making the maps way unbalanced as well as there only being 2 maps and a limited amount of weapons. It should be 32 players (because that’s how the maps were designed) and at least 6 maps. They also need to have an attack then a defense round, last night I played 8 defense matches in a row. I’m soooo glad I tried this on the EA play and didn’t fork out the 109 dollars.
Bugs and annoyances encountered in PS5:
• Bugs
- Sometimes in a match, you won't be able to select your loudout for the whole match, you have to quit and join another one
- Sometimes at the start of the match, you won't be able to spawn for a couple of minutes
- The communications menu (I need ammo, heals etc thing) fails to open up most of the times
- Ghost or fake reloads
• Annoyances
- The intro cutscenes are too long, annoying, boring and kick you out of the customization menu forcefully when the game starts
- The end of match voicelines are cringe, stupid and just outright annoying
- The console controller schemes are a fucking cluster fuck, they need to iron them out
- The menus are atrocious, very convoluted and hard to read at first
- The SVK sniper seems too powerful
- The Nightbird helicopter with rocket pods is too powerful
- The Hovercraft is too powerful
- No damage indicator when damaging vehicles, like Vehicle Hit 21 which meant you took away 21% of their health
- Not being able to outright remove an attachment on the Plus menu, you're forced to run 3
In the trailer we saw on discarded the side of the ship getting blown open. Is that in the game ? I never see it in rounds
12:06 about the plus system, i found that if u set the desired attachment closer to the number it will be set as the default ons
I preordered bfv and it was so buggy and a month later it was 29.99. I will always wait on battlefield from now on.
Don't know if anyone else has said this but you actually can make a default weapon attachment thingy that you spawn with every time by putting the scope/barrel/etc in the first slot in the customization menu.

So with the plus system, if you put the attachments you always want in the first box, those are the attachments that will be on the weapon when you start.
Whoever made that decision at EA and dice to launch the game in this current state needs to be fired straight up

Not going to happen. I remember seeing that one of the heads of DICE was promoted to high up in EA itself. As long as they can make money that is all that will happen.
Regarding the plus system--I believe whatever attachment you have in the first slot for each category (as selected in the "collections > weapons" tab in the lobby) will be automatically applied when you load into a game. This is not explained anywhere to my knowledge and I only learned about it by coincidence.
Others have said the same and I learned something new haha

The class system would flow so much better. I love playing in vehicles but every damn specialist can run a rocket launcher and it’s horrible. This makes players in vehicles camp back in their spawn. I have no drive to play this game. Sad

Just a tip. The first set of attachments you have on your + system is your default load out so you can change that to make that be your default.
Bring CTE (Community Test Environment) back!

@@diehardGG After BF4 buggy launch, they would have the community test it out first before releasing it to the public. Allowing us to voice what should and shouldn’t be implemented in the game as a collective. It was pretty much the main reason BF4 is crowned the goat today.

Yes, let's add beta testing after launch, so DICE and EA can save money on paying testers and server time. They can have the players pay for the privilege of playing a broken game so they can attempt to do their jobs months too late.
Another thing that boggles my mind is that the game takes place in the future, but the helis don't even have windshield wipers. Lol.
Something that me and my buddies didnt realize at first about the cut scenes is that theyre actually a loading screen. It you look closely, you can see textures loading in during them. I know it's a small thing compared to the big issues of the game but in my eyes, its a "positive". I would much rather see a cool cut scene than a loading screen.

They’ve gotten away from so many of the things that made this franchise great. I am very disappointed like many. I don’t know if it can recover from the shellacking it’s getting from all over.

@diehardGG you actually 'can' set your default setup on a weapon, just move the attachments you want to use to one of the three slots 'closest' to the gun (center) when doing it.
That will make that attachment default each time you respawn.
My ps5 completely crashes if I leave the game on in the menu and switch over my HDMI to cable . Like to the point where I have to try and turn I back on several times and it has to rebuild itself
5/10 seems accurate enough (solely based on your expectation that it might be better in a year) but I would just give it a 3 just so it could bomb in all reviews.
Not that I expect anything to change but that's my only way to let the devs know that we don't want their apex legends/cod hybrid style of game.
Have been playing BF since the first one. At this point, I just don't care if the franchise lives to see another day - not with these peeps making it at least.
I absolutely regret shoveling 50€ into dice a$$ for creating the worst Battlefield ever... I also lost trust in almost any Studio.. For example CyberPunk, CoD ColdWar, Vanguard and now Battlefield 2042. They all delivered awesome games in the past

Great review and sadly it seems like the gaming industry is plagued at the minute with underdeveloped games just being pushed out for financial gains.
Game developers got their priorities all wrong... gotta have the following:
1. Performance
2. Polish
3. Variety (CONTENT- maps, guns, vehicles- NOT SNEEZING, CYCLONES ETC)
4. Social (group play, communication)
5. Reason to play (stats, unlocks, rewarding to improve)
There’s no point adding unnecessary work by making maps huge, specialists, drop zone etc if you haven’t got the fundamentals!

For the plus system, whatever attachment is closest to the center will be default when you spawn in. So you can set up attachments.
Whatever attachment is closest to the gun when you pull up the plus system is the default attachment
2042 feels like battle royal turned multiplayer
You hit it on the head of the nail. I am utterly boggled why they didnt just take everything they developed for BFV like the movement and all that crispy movement and just put it in here. The jets are absolute dog crap and you cant get a kill with the guns on any infantry with the crazy spread they have and the missles are just not fun to uss. The helicopters fly like something out of gta 5 (exaggerated a bit). And everything else you've mentioned. I think to sum up this game, I would just say it doesnt feel like a battlefield game to me. It just feels sloppy at best.
It feels like they started over with this. I don't know game development well but I'd expect to build off of past code and features, not remove them
@@diehardGG exactly! I'd imagine they could build off past principles. But yeah I'm sure there is more that goes into it. EA probably compared the success of BFV and Apex and was like, make it more like this game, that'll give more profits. Maybe it's just out of touch corporates looking at metrics. Either way, I hope it gets better down the road and they fix some of these major issues.

To get a default loadout on your weapons move the attachments you prefer to the first slot on the plus system and you'll spawn in with those attachments set.
I changed my grenade map and I was never able to use the call in system after that
They need to buff rockets or give you more because you can't do shit with 3. Also plates need to go, anything that give players more health isn't welcome in fps games.

You could do a default loadout for the t system the attachments you want need to be in that far closest to the weapon you will load in with those attachments on your weapon

My ps5 experience was great on the full game I’ve experience minor bugs and mostly visually glitch’s time to time so for me it’s been awesome for me
i do want to point out that you can actually create a default attachment set for your weapons. all you need to do is use the change position option on the one you want as default and set it as the first square in the plus system. its annoying but you can still do it. thats how i use attachments in most classic games as well
there is a way to have a default loadout on your weapon just put whatever attachments you want to always be on the gun closer to the center of the plus
wanted it to be good, there's a good game buried in here. unfortunately I think it will get the battlefront 2 treatment and they will pull the plug on support and content when the game is entering a good state.

In what way is this game fun, oh yes it's really fun if you like being spawn trapped by hovercrafts or paying full price to get 1/4 of the game
@@Zark_Moneybags69 indeed there nothing fun add this point about the game in my case i often even today chould not even re spawn or revive or go prone or select another weapon not even that and my gaming pc i even more over powered than i should need for this game i also got a stable conections bud for some reason almost evry time i wanna play it lags out and evry reaction takes seconds before i even move its sad that the bf devs doesnt gibe a shit about players and or feedback

@@Zark_Moneybags69 New gadgets include but are not limited to: Healing pistol, grapple hook, recon drone, hacking tool, deployable cover, trophy systems, automated turrets, anti armor and scatter grenades, and instant loadout drops. As for the maps, they feel perfectly like battlefield. Large open spaces for vehicles with a mix of infantry only or combined arms based objectives for both sides to clash over. Community favorites like Al Alleman and Caspian Border have employed that same philosophy, with most other BF maps doing the same. 2042 is more of the same, just upscaled with the player count, offering plenty of variety depending on where you choose to fight.
That's classic battlefield, a mix of infantry and vehicle combat across large, sprawling maps, engaging in huge shootouts with infantry and getting your day ruined by tanks and aircraft. It's part of the fun. Spawn, fight, die, repeat, with a little bit of running here and there. That's how every BF has played. It's the fun that comes from the insanity of 128 people duking it out with a ton of guns and vehicles, and 2042 does that just fine. Some refinement and balance is certainly needed, but it's got the same fun factor.
the ending song of ur video really hits hard with ur opinion, gives off that nostalgia feeling, everyone unhappy like bf4 was and yet, bf4 become one of the best games in history of gaming
BTW, you may know this already, but...on the plus system, if you go into your Collections menu between games and move your desired attachments to the selection closest to the center of the cross menu, that will be your default attachment loadout at game start.

@@K9Biskit I mean dice can turn it around but they would have to sacrifice quantity for quality. This was a reality check for players especially vets. I personally have nothing to look forward to from ea/dice anymore knowing they can do 100 times better
People kept talking about how portal was going to replicate the whole of the older games, and never once thought that the movement, gunplay, etc was going to be the same as the base MP. People get blinded by their hopes.
The grips used to have the same stats but changed direction of recoil
Also, the attachments that are closer to the center in the plus system will be the default attachments. You can change their positions in the customization screen

This is one of the more rougher launches, though this game IS going to redeem itself in one way or another. If Battlefront 2 which was possibly one of the most controversial game launch and even Battlefield 5, both games did redeem themself (bt5 pacific war, bft2 whole journey).
I doubt it. Of all the Battlefield launches this is the ONLY one to go in such a terrible direction. I actually believe this game is trying to kill off the classic Battlefield experience.

yeah no, I knew when they said the beta was a 3 month build, It was gonna be its launch condition. and somehow it launched worse than its beta. Its like they had the 5 month build ready to go and they sent that one out. this game is incomplete, dice has abandoned this game already and are looking for yearly releases

(12:03) I don't know if you recorded this before the day1 patch, but you CAN change the + system into a default loadout. while in the weapon menu, you gotta edit the accessories for your weapon and switch everything around so your preferred attachment is at the first and inner slot in any of the categories. I wish there was an easier way of doing this as it's HELLA tedious and clunky design
