EA has issued the following response to the information in today's video:
“We are serious about Battlefield. EA is investing significant time and resources into Battlefield 2042 and the long-term success of the franchise. We have a strong new leadership group overseeing Battlefield led by Vince Zampella, Founder of Respawn and Group General Manager, and Byron Beede, General Manager of Battlefield. Rebecka Coutaz, will take over as the General Manager of DICE, and work closely with Christian Grass at Ripple Effect Studios and Marcus Lehto who is building a new studio in the Seattle area focused on Battlefield. Also, Alex Seropian and his team at Industrial Toys continue their work on Battlefield Mobile. We will continue to grow and improve Battlefield 2042 as it is the foundation for the future of this franchise. We have the right leaders in place and we’re investing in the teams and resources to capture Battlefield’s massive potential.”

You know what? For me Firestorm was amazing and by far the best Battle Royale experience still out there. (>>Experience not in general, it was buggy and needed some more love from dice)
I still think they should have released for free as standalone.
Dice do you want to sell skin and heroes? Then why the f you abandoned a great project such Firestorm where.. you know, skins and heroes make some sense at least, even for a Battlefield game.
But no they decided that putting some heroes in a 128pvp players was a perfectly fine idea 🥴🥴🥴
I've completely lost track of what they want from Battlefield since a lot ago...

Then dead space 3 came along and EA forced Visceral to include microtransactions and coop campaign. What horror game with multiplayer has been successful, very very few. Then after DS3 didn't exceed expectations, it did well but not EAs stupid high standards well, they forced Visceral to work on a Battlefield game. I’m so sick of hero shooters. It completely ruins the immersion. When I played Battlefield One, I felt like a terrified American soldier coming under artillery fire in a remnant of France’s old regime (Ballroom Blitz). I felt like a German conscript facing off against the British on the Somme.
    Hero shooters destroy that immersion.

It's sad, ironic, greedy and all sorts of things mixed into one. EA went for the money and what has been produced will earn them barely anything compared to what could have been. Had they just focussed on making the best Battlefield game you could ever own with the classic BF core mechanics, that would have been enough to secure its long term future as a classic game. All of the fans would have been overjoyed and that joy would have attracted newer players. The game would have been a huge success if it stuck to its roots.
Once the game was settled as the "best" Battlefield game ever made, with a solid fanbase of players they could have then focussed on cosmetics, new maps, battle passes and ALL the things they believed would make them money. I'm not averse to skins, passes etc having bought a few on COD, but that's because the COD franchise sticks to its core and MW19 was an excellent game right from the Beta - that excellent foundation paved the way for a good future, and the game was so much fun I was happy to buy battle passes for me and my son, plus skins etc. I guess between me and my son we probably spent over £300 on MW19 but it was well worth it and I still play it now. EA have stolen my £68 for this game and that is ALL they will get for it.
These companies are run by business graduates who have no idea how the game should be. Games like BF should be designed and built by BF fans and players and people that actually play the games.
This whole situation has left a sour taste in my mouth for gaming and games companies, and going forward I will now be very careful on which games and which companies get my hard earned money. A game will need to prove itself from the off before I even think about buying it. EA has hurt the gaming industry with this one. We need developers and game studios that are passionate about games, and not how many million $ they can make each month.
It amazes me that a company making so much money like EA, couldn't be bothered to kit out their developers home setup with a proper PC and full array of testing consoles. EA should be sued over this game, from players and employees.

As someone who played the Technical Playtest, it was seriously mind-blowing how nothing changed from the Tech Test to the Full release of 2042.
As a rundown, the playtests were about 2-3 hours long with two session a day on specified days.
On the first session, of course people were hyped. It was a new Battlefield so people didn't care about how it would be but soon enough people started to see certain issues.
The playtest was capped at 30FPS the ENTIRE time, and to add they told everyone that it was capped for the reasoning of "Were are looking for certain data, the performance will be tested during the Beta phase. The Tech Test will be performed to acquire data on server stability. With the new 128 Player-count, stability is much of concern".
So everyone just ignored the very unrealistic frame cap for no reason at all, as the frames wouldn't interfere with data for server stability. But I ignored it and kept playing.
As people kept playing, and people kept leaking gameplay on the strict ruling that EVERYTHING was under NDA, issues were starting to show.
Main Menu selections weren't working properly or at all. Some settings like Future Frame Rendering was completely busted causing system instabilities OUTSIDE the game. At one point, I managed to find a way to shoot 2 rockets out of the Recoilless M5. Hitreg was just as busted as launch day, and even introducing pre-existing bugs from the Tech Test.
As the first weekend of testing ended, we were all hoping for improvements and the justification on updates to fix these ongoing issues.
As the second weekend started, I completely lost it with EA. All of the issues from the first weekend weren't even touched. Further more, as I did know it was for server data, the servers were the absolute worst. You would think to gather data you need as many people on as possible to get the most data possible. However, the servers were constantly crashing and games were completely just closing and sending people to the main menu 24/7 the entire weekend.
As this marked the end of the Tech Test I knew that nothing would change with EA. We reported bugs about performance issues involving settings not working or tracking properly. Lone behold, for many users, the FFR setting still wasn't working in the Beta. To add, certain settings to do with sensitivity were also busted as the sliders weren't tracking the proper values.
If you know one thing about EA, its to never EVER trust them to make a good quality product ever again

This should make me angry but it doesn't. It just makes me sad. When BFV's troubles were front and center I already got wind of how much troubles DICE was going through but I was secretly hoping that 2042 would have at least more time to figure out how to do things better. This video just reinforces the fact that even more time won't really do much because the same bad calls that made BFV the way it is, are the same ones that plagued the development of 2042. And the saddest thing of all? No amount of time will bring back the original developers that had so many years under their belts. Even if the entire management wanted to make things happen, the experience of knowing how to use frostbite to get what we want simply wont be there for many years to come.

Exactly this. Before you could always see how it could be fixed and at least appreciate what they are aiming for. With this the entire focus of the game is what's really wrong with it. That's obviously why so many key BF Dev veterans have jumped ship. They didn't believe in what they were making anymore. RIP Battlefield and it's hard to see it ever being as good again. They just want a military Apex Legends to compete with Warzone and Fortnite hence who they've now put in charge. EA just strangles everything they touch. 2042 is the worst excuse for a BF I'll ever play. Glad I bought the disc so I can try and sell it.

It's not the devs that need to be 'pushed' to innovate. It's obvious the leads themselves are completely out of touch.
The executives at EA/DICE are clearly imposing battle royale / specialists and now even 'hero shooter' trends upon the devs.
What the leads need to do is BACK OFF, stop rejecting ideas that do not fit in current market trends, and let the devs make what they want without micromanaging game mechanics like in-game monetization.

I've never been more disappointed (other than BFV) with a Battlefield game, and I hope they listen to us and give us the experience we all enjoyed before, and want now.

The real issue, honestly, is money.
EA got too greedy, wanted DICE to do something they weren't really specialized in doing, and then changed their mind about it after they acquired Respawn+Apex. The entire idea of having a lease system for consoles for the devs is also insane - EA has literal billions of dollars at it's disposal; they could have easily bought 1 of each console, for each developer, on the team; instead, they chose not to. The high developer turn-around could also have been solved with money - specifically, paying the dev staff more. This is one of EA's flagship franchises, and they could have made a fortune if they just weren't so greedy during dev.

I'll just never understand what made them think that a hero shooter - or a specialist system - would be better than the established class system. Bugs and performance issues aside - nothing new for Battlefield, they'll get fixed - it's a shame that the game gets pushed in a direction where it does not belong. No one asked for this. Battle Royales and hero shooter are popular among many people, won't debate that, but the same people that love Rainbow Six Siege or Call of Duty for their operators may also like the fact that Battlefield never worked this way. What was wrong with Assault, Engineer, Medic, Recon? Where's the issue with giving them decent (!!!) skins that fit into the atmosphere?
But even if everything debatable would be cast aside, from bugs, performance, graphics, map design, specialists, et cetera: the fact that they made THIS abomination after failing so absolutely with BFV is astonishing. Aren't there community managers at dice? Does someone at Dice watch or read or listen to any content related to their product? Are they deaf and blind? The community is still actively playing the old titles, even BC2. Reddit, UA-cam, Twitter, Facebook, everything overheated after BFV with several types of criticism - constructive as well as toxic, but anyway, the voices were loud and clear! The communities vision of a future Battlefield was always broadly visible: a game like Battlefield BC2, 3, 4, 1, if Dice had just taken the road down in a straight direction from where they came, we wouldn't be talking now, we would play.
It's so saddening to see a franchise like this going down, because, well, let's be honest: BFV has nearly no bugs now. Runs just fine. But it's design is so awful, that it might as well be dead. The same will happen to 2042. You can fix the bugs, you wont fix 20x Maria Falck - 10 on the one side, 10 on the other, the ones speaking english, the other russian. But none of the players behind them will know who's better - no scoreboard. None of them chose actively to be on that server - no server browser. Sigh.

    • @martinschmidt9878
      @martinschmidt9878 2 роки тому +1

The problem was that classes don't sell microtransactions as good as individual "heroes". That's the one and only reason. If specialists would have been the only change and everything else would have worked like intended, most people would have lived with that change and EA would have increased sales in microtransactions. They wouldn't even notice some hardcore fans "not buying because of specialists" compared to the profits from the additional microtransactions.
The problem is, that they are going where the money is and not where the fans want the product to be - except that is where the money is. But sadly for all fans of BF the money lies within casual hero-battleroyal-shooters where you can milk the playerbase for years to come and not within selling a quality product once.

Various grunts with their specific job (Classes) and then the unique ones that bring their own technology into the fight, albeit limited number at a time (Heros, Jedi, Villains, Sith) and still have sold skins for all of them, even the regular grunts like they had in BF4, BF1, and V

Some of the Frostbite issues are apparent. I'm a soft engineer and I immediately recognized BF5 and BF2042 have a missing set of shader files or some switched parameters on the PC version which makes the game look worse, they need to fix it. There are also memory leaks. Look at console gameplay and compare it to PC, the lighting is night and day. (just to be clear this is my assumption, I don't work with Frostbite or DICE but there is a clear issue.)

Up until Battlefield 2042 I had only one game I had real genuine buyers regret over purchasing and that was Black Ops 4, I wasn't going to buy it as it had no campaign, but Battlefield was delayed and I caved. When I heard Battlefield 2042 had no campaign I didn't bother even looking into pre-ordering it, then a friend wanted to try the beta. So we both bought in and played the Beta, I was almost immediately looking into getting refund (Playstation) but talked myself into thinking "It'll be better on final release!" and didn't claim a refund, even when Playstation offered one due to the delay.
I now have two games I regret buying with Battlefield 2042 in my collection, it is such an uninspiring game I have struggled to play it enough to get to level 20. Ie gone back to playing Vanguard and Fortnite for FPS fix.

"UI has always been understaffed and underscoped" as a UI designer, this is the norm for nearly any and all games AAA and indie.
This whole ordeal is incredibly disheartening as the Battlefield franchise has always been a huge, driving source of inspiration and passion for my career. To see it absolutely slaughtered like this reminds me why I avoid AAA studios. Once a game becomes so successful the execs, management, and shareholders can't stand to risk the "success" (read: "their profits") on the "whims of passion and creativity" even if it's success was owed to passion and creativity to begin with. So every possible corner is cut and every path taken is limited to those paved by successful trends proven by others. And, to be safe, they try to maximize potential profit by making the game little more than a platform for micro-transactions. RIP Battlefield. RIP DICE. I truly mourn both.

The issue here is, I FEEL LIKE, that it does not feel like it isnt polished or not good enoug but it is flat out embarrassing. Like UX/UI always should focus on making things simple and time efficient and in battlefield is there one thing u dont need to click at least twice to get what u want? I am so confused how this happened this is honestly crazy to me

The best DICE game from the recent years is definitely Ultracore. Originally known as Hardcore, it was to be DICE's 16 bit magnum opus for Sega Mega Drive, but was canned on the finish line with the entire market pivoting to new things in 3D. In 2019 SLG acquired the game, finished it, ported it to modern systems and finally released it - and it's pretty darn great.

Awesome breakdown of alot of factors that contributed to Battlefield 2042.
Always felt like Dice suffered from pressure from EA to target the more mainstream FPS demographic, but appears Dice lost alot of the people who brought the franchise's identity.
From the first play of Orbital, it was apparent how much the game was built with an ambition to be a Battle Royale.
Map lacked cover and map design outside of 2 large focal points (rocket and skyscraper).
Fans are showing in numbers how switched off they are with this title and hopefully that sends home a message to EA & Dice, which sadly won't be loud enough considering they didn't learn from Battlefield V or Hardline.
Talk of a future title focusing on specialists simply sounds like they're wanting to be Overwatch or Rainbow 6 Siege.
With many gamers tired of Battle Royales, the above mentioned titles dying out and CoD failing to deliver a solid title this year.... Battlefield really could have got what EA lusted for, if they had only tried to replicate their own franchise titles.
