Haha well said
Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio won the Oscar, while Disney's Pinocchio won Razzie. Swallow That Mickey! 🤣🤣🤣
But not "the Razzie", as in the award for Worst Picture.
Netflix wins
I mean the original Disney version won an Oscar too, while the namesake was still alive. This comment wreaks of ignorance
@@blackguyofthesouth2161 But you can't even compare, Pinocchio from 1940 is one of the Greatest Classics in the History of Cinema, it's a Perfect Animation that aged Super Well. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The 2022 Pinocchio is just another completely disposable Remake made by the current Disney CEO and is more concerned with filling the Disney+ catalog than with the quality of the work as a whole. 🤢
Disney+ phinochio had the lowest ratings in rotten tomatoes
They may complain that Puss in Boots did not win, but come on people, This Oscar mainly deserved it for Pinocchio by Guillermo Del Toro, and not only because it is Guillermo Del Toro or from Netflix, but because Del Toro gave him this movie with a lot of dedication and heart with the help of stop motion, and that had to wait a long time for it to finally be worth all that this Oscar deserved.
We love you Guillermo Del Toro and in your face Disney and Bob Chapek, animation is not a genre, it is a medium and it is cinema.
Yes. 💯💯💯

Pinocchio was the first animated film for a streaming service under the animation studio Netflix Animation, who have also competed with three previous nominations for the same category, as well as the seventh non-Disney/Pixar film to win and the first non-Disney/Pixar film since Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the second stop-motion animated film after Aardman's Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, and the Adventures of Pinocchio's second adaptation to win any category from the Academy Awards after Disney's Pinocchio. Guillermo del Toro became the first person in history to win Academy Award for Best Director, Best Picture and Best Animated Feature Film. Guillermo del Toro was the first filmmaker to win Academy Awards for Best Director, Best Picture and Best Animated Feature for different films, for The Shape of Water and Pinocchio.
I loved Puss in Boots 2, but Pinocchio del Toro is a masterpiece. For me in 2022 there have been only two animated films Puss in Boots and Pinocchio del Toro.
I only watched Puss In Boots 2 recently, and I do wish it had won but A) any non-Disney win is okay with me and B) GDT’s Pinocchio is such a worthy competition for Puss In Boots that i couldn’t be disappointed.
2:46 Animation is Cinema, Animation is not a genre.
That is what makes animated movies and shows great, not just the story or the music or the visuals or the voice acting, but the medium of animation itself.
Dwayne Johnson and Guillermo Del Toro really gave animation the respect it deserves. And as much as I wanted _Puss In Boots: The Last Wish_ to win, I can't deny that _Pinocchio,_ (this version anyway,) also really deserved the award. I'm just glad it didn't go to _Turning Red._
I very much agree.
Ironic The Rock praised animation though since he just announced a live action Moana remake. Granted this was before but, you never know. Disney could've planned this out to cover their ass.
@Dan_Ganing_Fan I loved Turning Red, I wanted it to win

As much I liked Turning Red or Puss in Boots to win; I must say bravo to Guillermo Del Toro. His version of Pinocchio not only proves that we can be loved and accepted for who we are inside, but also a reminder that Animation is something for everyone; because it is CINEMA. I think it was a well deserved choice. Congrats to Del Toro and Netflix for proving the worth of Animation. Bravo!

RIP Mark Gustafson (September 19, 1959 - February 1, 2024), aged 64
My condolences go to his family and friends.
Here’s hoping the Academy recognizes animation as the art form it rightfully is, rather than just kiddy stuff because it’s so much more. It is as Mr. Del Toro said, cinema.
They should start recognizing adult animated films if they want to send that message

R.I.P Mark Gustafson he co directed a spectacular film.
GDT's Pinocchio is a beautiful film that explores difficult subjects like death in such a warm and profound way. It was impossible for another film to take the award.
And honestly, it deserved many more nominations. Ciao Papa for original song, Desplat's Score, Adapted Screenplay, Best Picture, etc.
It was a shame that no animated films this year were able to get a nomination outside of their exclusive category.
I also believe it should had been nominated for Best Production Design.
Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio teaches that someone should not have to live up to impossible parental expectations or be like anyone else to be worthy of love. This stop-motion animated musical is firm in its themes of self-love and loving someone for who they are without boundaries or expectations of who they should be.
Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio is a story about family at its core, and does a perfect job from start to finish of showing how important familial love is, no matter what sort of shape those loved ones may take.
One of the best winners of this category in recent memory, and it wasn't a Disney movie!
I'm so happy for Guillermo and everyone involved in the film, the stop motion medium deserved this recognition so badly, I'm so happy it won. It's a dark fantasy film, usual for a winner in the category, but also a tragically beautiful one. Can't recommend it enough
Also, all the other nominees were great! And the Oscars didn't insult animation! I hope they keep it that way
Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio definitely deserved the win and I never get tired of Del Toro's speeches. I just wish that the film got more nominations outside of Animated Feature. I would have nominated the movie for Desplat's incredible score, the incredible production design, the incredible screenplay, and I would have given the movie a Best Picture nomination. I hope we have another animated film nominated in Best Picture again and I even want to see one win. One day, I hope the Oscars recognize that animation is cinema. It's not a kids genre, it's a medium for all ages and all forms of art.
And Song (Ciao Papa) such a beautiful song
🥲🥲🥲Thank you Mark Gustafson for giving life together with del Toro this version of Pinocchio, even if you have left, you left us this work of art. Rest in peace.
Eternal Spring should have been nominated in place of The Sea Beast
So glad Pinnochio won. Should have also have been nominated for Best Sound, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Original Song Ciao Papa and Best Picture
R.I.P. Mark Gustafson
Del Toro has used the award platforms afforded by his nominations to champion the medium of animation as true cinema. Also the best part of the auteur's speech was 3:15 ❤
Thank you Guillermo... 🎉
In the Oscars, Guillermo del Toro was the first filmmaker, as well as the first Latin, to win both best director/best picture and best animated feature at different films, for his work of the Shape of Water and Pinocchio.

Wow, I almost had a heart attack when Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt took the stage to present the Oscar for Best Animation, after all they made that Disney movie called Jungle Cruise, so I already thought Turning Red was going to win. 😱
Originally I did. But then I saw this movie. Also take a look at the Agnes Varda videos here
Definitely wanted to throw the viewers for a loop there and think for a moment Pixar was going to win again. Probably the most “Gotcha” moment from this year’s Oscars.

@@plasmaemerald8407I didn't want Disney to win like the next person but Turning Red wasn't bad, it was just mediocre when compared to the Puss in Boots or Pinocchio
Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio is a treat for viewers of any age and an example of Netflix's creative freedom at its best.
2:47 This SPEECH IS AMAZING. Respect ANIMATION as a REPRESENTATION OF ARTISTIC MOVEMENT, SUCH AS HORROR, DRAMA, ACTION, SLICE OF LIFE. Great speech!!
With the _Boy And the Heron_ Oscar win tonight, Guillermo said it perfectly at 2:46-3:00, Animation isn’t a "Genre" and is ready to be taking the next step and being a part of the conversation and with Del Toro’s Pinocchio and _Boy and the Heron_ win with the latter being PG-13, I say animation is slowly getting attention and being a part of the conversation.

Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio takes a story that audiences were very familiar with and made it into a unique film that combined drama, comedy and music.

Guillermo del Toro is known for his use of insectile and religious imagery, his themes of Catholicism, anti-fascism, and celebrating imperfection, underworld motifs, practical special effects, dominant amber lighting, and his frequent collaborations with actors Ron Perlman and Doug Jones.
Guillermo del Toro's masterful artistry and the magical storytelling he was known for are both on display in Pinocchio. The film layers onto the classic fairy tale thicker themes about father-son relationships, the meaning of life, religious zeal, and the absurdities of war and authoritarian rule.
This is the first streaming movie to win Best Animated Feature.
What about Soul?
Soul technically doesn't count since it has released in some cinemas in worldwide
Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio opened last year with a limited theatrical run before releasing direct to Netflix. This marked the first time I've watched an Oscar ceremony in three years.
Critics found Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio to be a perfect example of how a creator that leans towards dark themes can develop a classic tale into something both appropriate for younger audiences and still darker than the original.
Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio has themes of self-acceptance, unconditional love and the power of disobedience.

Animated films challenge perceptions of what adult animation can accomplish, pushing the boundaries of the medium.
Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio is one of the best family movies on Netflix so stop-motion animation brings the puppet turned real boy to life. The movie's visuals are stunning, and the story is an emotional one that will tug on the heartstrings of the audience while still giving them a happy ending. The movie scored the best animated feature wins at the Golden Globes, the Annie Awards, Critics Choice and the Oscars.

GENIO DEL TORO🌟
Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio tackled dark topics and is arguably his finest artistic achievement.
I've been a fan of Disney and Pixar's classic animated films up until today and MOST of their films nominated in the category really deserved those wins in my personal opinion. However, during the year 2022 I was disappointed with their slate of films: Turning Red moved to Disney Plus instead of releasing it to the big screen while both Lightyear and Strange World were both box office flops which I don't know what happened why (you can comment down below what happened).
So to see Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio's win as Netflix's first Best Animated Feature Film Oscar win was highly deserved. Congratulations to Guillermo del Toro on his third Oscar and the cast and crew of this film! I honestly think the Academy could do more by nominating animated films to the Best Picture category just like they did many years ago.
Now place your bets here guys, who do you think this year 2023 will win Best Animated Feature at the 2024/96th Oscars?
These are my personal Top 5 I think who will be nominated next year, without ranking from best to worst or worst to best:
1.) The Boy and the Heron written & directed by Hayao Miyazaki (Studio Ghibli)
2.) Wish, an original film which will commemorate the century of Disney or Disney's 100th anniversary (Disney Animation)
3.) Elemental, an original film that is like Zootopia in setting but inhabited by fire, water, air, and earth elements (Pixar)
4.) Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, sequel to the 2018 Oscar-winning Into the Spider-Verse film (Sony Animation)
5.) Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, sequel to 2003's Chicken Run (Aardman Animations)
Wish or Spider-Man.
@@douglassobreira5453 Probably Wish or Elemental!
It’d be interesting seeing Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget nominated. Wouldn’t be the first time an animated sequel was nominated without its predecessors being nominated. Toy Story 3 & 4 each received Best Animated Feature nominations and wins while the first 2 weren’t nominated considering the Best Animated Feature category had yet to be added. So CR:DOTN could be the next animated sequel nominated without its predecessor being nominated.
I think How Do You Live?, Spider-Verse, or Wish will take it.
