While Pixar dominating this award is a sign of how strong the studio can be, I also think it shows some favoritism by the Academy, particularly the Brave and Toy Story 4 wins. In general, this award tends to have the opposite bias of the Best Picture winners; Best Animated Feature winners are often some of the biggest movies of the year, with smaller titles getting almost universally overlooked.
That's an interesting point. I think the nominees have been so centered on the big American animation industry because that's exactly what the animation branch is made of: people working in Disney, Pixar, DreamWorks, etc. As for the winners, it is fair to say that unfortunately to this day most people outside of animation still regard the medium as a "genre for kids" and don't actively seek out good films, so it's not surprising that they'd vote for the few big films they actually saw (sometimes begrudgingly).
My favorites: Shrek, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Up, Toy Story 3, Rango, Zootopia, Coco, Spider Man: Into the Spider Verse and Guilhermo del Toro's Pinocchio

Tell me about it!!! Toy story 4 is an abomination that went back on everything the original trilogy taught us about loving our kids while Klaus was an artistic triumph with a positive message about kindness.
Facts! I'll never get over that. Klaus was brilliant and original while TS4 was excessively overrated. It wasn't even good! I can understand the 3rd film winning but the 4th one, really?!
Now Ratatouille is my favorite Pixar movie of all time, but I feel like Persepolis should have won in 2007. It was beautifully animated and the story was told brilliantly

I almost completely agree, specially 2006, 2008 and 2009. In 2016 even if Your Name was 10/10, I think A Silent Voice was even better. In 2019 I would pick Frozen II and in 2021 Luca.

@moviehero1384, for 2006, Barnyard and Open Season were listed instead, while for 2007, The Simpsons Movie is officially listed, but Bee Movie was listed instead of Meet the Robinsons.
The Peterson Family Franchise 2006 - Cars 2007 - Ratatouille 2008 - WALL-E 2009 - Ice Age Dawn of The Dinosaurs 2010 - Toy Story 3 2011 - Cars 2 2012 - Madagascar 3 Europe's Most Wanted 2013 - Turbo 2014 - The Lego Movie 2015 - Inside Out 2016 - Ice Age Collision Course 2017 - Cars 3 2018 - Ralph Breaks The Internet 2019 - Toy Story 4 2020 - Onward 2021 - Space Jam A New Legacy 2022 - DC League of Super Pets 2023 - Elemental 2024 - Inside Out 2
@julianharris530, the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature first existed in 2001, also, Cars did not win it, Ice Age Dawn of The Dinosaurs was not nominated, Cars 2 was not nominated, Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted was not nominated, Turbo was not nominated, The Lego Movie was not nominated, Ice Age Collision Course was not nominated, Cars 3 was not nominated, Ralph Breaks the Internet didn't win, Onward didn't win, Space Jam A New Legacy was not nominated, and DC League of Super Pets was not nominated, and 2023 and 2024 are future compared to the past 22 years of the award's time, this talks more exclusively about the past not future.
Wreck-It-Ralph, Puss in Boots 2, and Cars were all robbed. Still, Disney’s absolute domination in this category shows how miles ahead their animation is compared to other companies. Andrew Stanton and Pete Docter are phenomenal directors.
DEPLORABLE THERE WERE ONLY THE OSCAR AWARDS FOR THE BEST ANIMATED FILM CATEGORY, AS OF 2001. IF IT EXISTED BEFORE, MY NOMINATIONS AND WINNERS WOULD BE: 1997: - Hercules - Anastasia - Cats Don't Dance Winner: Hercules 1998: - Mulan - A Bug's Life - The Prince of Egypt - Antz Winner: Mulan 1999: - Princess Mononoke - Toy Story 2 - The Iron Giant - Tarzan Winner: Princess Mononoke 2000: - Chicken Run - The Emperor's New Groove - Fantasia 2000 - The Road to El Dorado Winner: Chicken Run
What about Snow White, Pinocchio, Bambi, Fantasia, Dumbo ?... There were superb animated films even before you were born, actually; hard to believe, but true!
Its crazy how Puss in boots 2 the last wish wasn't the winner for 2022. It just doesn't make sense at all because it was way better than that Pinocchio movie. The Super Mario Bros Movie. Better be the winner for 2023.
My five predictions for 2023 Best Animated Feature Film movies: The Super Mario Bros. Movie Elemental Spiderman Across the Spiderverse (Winner) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken

@@Carliteos I don’t think _Across the Spider-Verse_ will win the Oscar as outside the _Toy Story_ franchise which won Best Animated Feature through Toy Story 3-4, their hasn’t been *ANY* animated sequel that has won the Oscar, _Shrek_ and _The Incredibles_ won the Oscar, yet their sequels (both Shrek 2 and Incredibles 2) didn’t go on to win the Oscar with the _Incredibles 2_ losing to _Into the Spider-Verse._ So now that _Boy and the Heron_ won the Golden Globe and BAFTA for Best Animated Feature over _Across the Spider-Verse,_ then their is a good possibility that _Boy and the Heron_ could win the Oscar for Best Animated feature tomorrow night. Besides, 14 of the 17 animated films that won the BAFTA (except LEGO Movie, Kubo, and Klaus) end up winning the Academy Award for Best Animated feature which has been the case through _Soul, Encanto, Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio_ in the last three years and the BAFTA’s are 82% accurate compared to the Annie’s, Golden Globes. Critic’s Choice Awards, and Producers Guild Awards for Best Animated Feature, not to mention most of the films that won both the Golden Globe and especially the BAFTA (except Happy Feet, Rango and Zootopia) won Oscars for Best Animated Feature.
I’m not hating on Zootopia, but it didn’t deserve to win over an entry that wasn’t even nominated: A Silent Voice. This and a lot of other questionable wins totally showcase the lack of respect the Academy has for animation.

Animation is any form of creating scenes based on the taking or creation of photograms of real people and objects. Computer animation is directly the creation of shots on the computer, in this I will not give you examples because it is the most obvious... Traditional animation is to draw on paper each frame and create movements, and as an example is the anime, specifically Spirited Away in the case of the winners... Stop Motion is to photograph figures and places created as models and that in each one is a different movement, but since there are largely no performances of people, it is considered animation, and as an example of the winners Wallace & Gromit and Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio ... Motion capture is to use real people who are only used their features and movements that are used for the creation of the characters, as an example is the winner Happy Feet, and also Monster House, The Polar Express and the rare Mars Needs Moms, but the academy later said that it would no longer accept these films since they must be animated from scratch as much as possible. I mention this because all the films are animated, not only is it traditional animation, but I know what is the most difficult next to Stop Motion.
@@imdylanbh8 of course they're all different types of animation. I just don't understand why 2d animation (what you call traditional animation) has been so overlooked by the Academy ever since the creation of this category.
@@Arquemesta Oh, I got what you meant... That's what I've wondered about, because there have been very good films in that style of animation, but I don't know how the academy rates both the nominees and the winners, since some films only won because they were successful, others because they really deserved it, and others it's 50/50 ...

I don’t think _Across the Spider-Verse_ will win the Oscar as the film only won an Annie but didn’t win the Golden Globe and especially the BAFTA for Best Animated Feature, so the film’s chances of winning the Oscar is at 40-45% compared to the _Boy and the Heron_ being at 55-60% thanks to its BAFTA win unless the Academy voters could pull a "Big Hero 6" and "Toy Story 4" once again and could cause _Across the Spider-Verse_ to win the Oscar instead of _Boy and the Heron_ because of bias and Taste from Oscar/Academy voters. But I’m going to be honest, outside the _Toy Story_ franchise which won Best Animated Feature through Toy Story 3-4, their hasn’t been *ANY* animated sequel that has won the Oscar, _Shrek_ and _The Incredibles_ won the Oscar, yet their sequels (both Shrek 2 and Incredibles 2) didn’t go on to win the Oscar with the _Incredibles 2_ losing to _Into the Spider-Verse._ So now that _Boy and the Heron_ won the Golden Globe and BAFTA for Best Animated Feature over _Across the Spider-Verse,_ then their is a good possibility that _Boy and the Heron_ could win the Oscar for Best Animated feature tomorrow night Besides, 14 of the 17 animated films that won the BAFTA (except LEGO Movie, Kubo, and Klaus) end up winning the Academy Award for Best Animated feature which has been the case through _Soul, Encanto, Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio_ in the last three years and the BAFTA’s are 82% accurate compared to the Annie’s, Golden Globes. All winners are great except for Happy Feet, Rango, Brave, Soul and Encanto. I would have rather preferred Cars, A Cat in Paris/Kung Fu Panda 2, The Wolf House/Farmageddon and Flee/Michells v Machines/Luca win in their respective years.
Soul robbed Wolfwalkers Last wish was robbed by Pinocchio Brother Bear should have won over Finding Nemo Kung Fu Panda should have Won over Wall-e but even I can understand why it did won Everything else I agree with The my little pony movie and the super Mario movie should’ve gotten nominated instead of boss baby and robot dreams respectively

Good picks!
100% agree
great picks.
Well we do have the Annie Awards which are basically the Oscars/Golden Gloves for Animation, and that has a best voice actor category.
Encanto is always 😢 a marvelous masterpiece!
2009 was a very good year for animation.... Also Toy Story 4 winning over Klaus was criminal!
Tell me about it!!! Toy story 4 is an abomination that went back on everything the original trilogy taught us about loving our kids while Klaus was an artistic triumph with a positive message about kindness.
Like really Klaus was the best one at the moment truly deserved the Oscar since pretty much everything else was garbage
Klaus more like Poopy
Facts! I'll never get over that. Klaus was brilliant and original while TS4 was excessively overrated. It wasn't even good! I can understand the 3rd film winning but the 4th one, really?!
Now The Boy and The Heron has joined in the family for Best Animated Feature
I THOUGHT THE BOY IN THE HERON SUCKS 🤨🤨🤨
Now Ratatouille is my favorite Pixar movie of all time, but I feel like Persepolis should have won in 2007. It was beautifully animated and the story was told brilliantly
I wonder how Megamind, Despicable Me and Tangled also wernt nominated back in 2010. How odd. :/
Rango is still a masterpiece to THIS day.

Spirited Away and Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Wererabbit are still the only 2 winners which are NOT by an US studio.

I almost completely agree, specially 2006, 2008 and 2009. In 2016 even if Your Name was 10/10, I think A Silent Voice was even better. In 2019 I would pick Frozen II and in 2021 Luca.
No no 2005 I prefer winner Of Precure max heart over Fucking children or shaved advent dickster

@julianharris530, the 96th Academy Awards Ceremony doesn't begin until March 10 2024, so no one knows, which animated films will be nominated or wins.
@moviehero1384, for 2006, Barnyard and Open Season were listed instead, while for 2007, The Simpsons Movie is officially listed, but Bee Movie was listed instead of Meet the Robinsons.
The Peterson Family Franchise
2006 - Cars
2007 - Ratatouille
2008 - WALL-E
2009 - Ice Age Dawn of The Dinosaurs
2010 - Toy Story 3
2011 - Cars 2
2012 - Madagascar 3 Europe's Most Wanted
2013 - Turbo
2014 - The Lego Movie
2015 - Inside Out
2016 - Ice Age Collision Course
2017 - Cars 3
2018 - Ralph Breaks The Internet
2019 - Toy Story 4
2020 - Onward
2021 - Space Jam A New Legacy
2022 - DC League of Super Pets
2023 - Elemental
2024 - Inside Out 2
@julianharris530, the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature first existed in 2001, also, Cars did not win it, Ice Age Dawn of The Dinosaurs was not nominated, Cars 2 was not nominated, Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted was not nominated, Turbo was not nominated, The Lego Movie was not nominated, Ice Age Collision Course was not nominated, Cars 3 was not nominated, Ralph Breaks the Internet didn't win, Onward didn't win, Space Jam A New Legacy was not nominated, and DC League of Super Pets was not nominated, and 2023 and 2024 are future compared to the past 22 years of the award's time, this talks more exclusively about the past not future.
Wreck-It-Ralph, Puss in Boots 2, and Cars were all robbed. Still, Disney’s absolute domination in this category shows how miles ahead their animation is compared to other companies. Andrew Stanton and Pete Docter are phenomenal directors.
sad to see that only one ghibli movie got an oscar :(
Tha amazing owld moving castellano won too
Not anymore! _The Boy and the Heron_ just won! 🎉❤
1:57 huh. I thought two independent films were nominated that year.
Technically the same is said for 2014 because there is
Song Of The Sea:Ireland
The Tale Of Princess Kaguya:China
DEPLORABLE THERE WERE ONLY THE OSCAR AWARDS FOR THE BEST ANIMATED FILM CATEGORY, AS OF 2001. IF IT EXISTED BEFORE, MY NOMINATIONS AND WINNERS WOULD BE:
1997:
- Hercules
- Anastasia
- Cats Don't Dance
Winner: Hercules
1998:
- Mulan
- A Bug's Life
- The Prince of Egypt
- Antz
Winner: Mulan
1999:
- Princess Mononoke
- Toy Story 2
- The Iron Giant
- Tarzan
Winner: Princess Mononoke
2000:
- Chicken Run
- The Emperor's New Groove
- Fantasia 2000
- The Road to El Dorado
Winner: Chicken Run
2000 Emperor's New Groove > Chicken Run
1999 Toy Story 2 > Mononoke
1998 Prince of Egypt > Mulan
1997 Hercules
Imo, chicken run sequel must be nominated
Prince of Egypt shits on Mulan easily
What about Snow White, Pinocchio, Bambi, Fantasia, Dumbo ?... There were superb animated films even before you were born, actually; hard to believe, but true!
@@rlmack5 but Snow White won honoráry Oscar and Pinocchio won 2 Oscars for Best Original Score and Original Song for When You Wish Upon A Star
I liked Shrek, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Wallace & Gromit, Ratatouille, Toy Story 3, Spider-Verse, and Toy Story 4.
Its crazy how Puss in boots 2 the last wish wasn't the winner for 2022. It just doesn't make sense at all because it was way better than that Pinocchio movie. The Super Mario Bros Movie. Better be the winner for 2023.
I think because people find It a masterpiece I didn't I just thought it was good
Puss in Boots the Last Wish definitely deserved the Oscar. The Mario movie? No
Guillermo Del Toros Pinocchio is great it deserved it too
I'm suprise The Bad Guys didn't get a nomination at least.
My five predictions for 2023 Best Animated Feature Film movies:
The Super Mario Bros. Movie
Elemental
Spiderman Across the Spiderverse (Winner)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem
Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken
I'm not a fan of the Spiderverse movies..... but as long as Disney DOESN'T win yeeeet agaaaaiiin, I'll be happy!!
Disney's film Wish will more likely be nominated as well.
Anyways, Suzume should win by far.
@@dariussalepetru6770Wish was very underwhelming
Howl"s moving castle, Fantastic mr. Fox and Wolfwalkers should have win an Oscar
For 2023, here are potential nominees:
1) The Super Mario Bros. Movie (4/5/2023)
2) Elemental (6/16/2023)
3) Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken (6/30/2023)
4) The Magician's Elephant (3/17/2023)
5) Wish (11/22/2023)
6) Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (6/2/2023)
7) Nimona (6/30/2023)
8) The Monkey King (8/18/2023)
9) Leo (11/22/2022)
10) Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie (9/29/2023)
Everyone forgets about Suzume, even though it made over 300 millions.
To me it's by far the best film of the year.
No dreamworks movie?
@reddrido3159, Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken (6/30/2023) is from Dreamworks Animation.
I hope even i dont think but i still have hope teamge karen wiil won
You forgot boy and the heron

It’s gonna be Sony animation for astv
They definitely aren't winning shit with Ruby Gillman as their headliner
They making Suzume dirty.
Encanto deserved the ocsar, and DreamWorks hasn’t made any good movies since Last Wish
Which win was your favorite? What should've won intead? Let me know in the comments!
I'm still angry that Klaus lost to Toy Story 4, of all movies.

2004 was tuff! It should’ve been the first year two movies won and it’s not shark tales although that movie was good
Nice
22 winners and only one them it's a 2d animation film...
Maybe my future Animated movie will be Another 2D winner of this Award.
Hopefully The Super Mario Bros Movie Will Be The Next Best Animated Feature Oscar Winner.
It will be a miracle if it gets nominated. It's so generic.
Super Mario deserved this.
It won’t

I hope that across the spider verse gets the next award ❤🔥
No question will my man
I think The Boy and the Heron will take it, ngl.
The bly and the heron more like The woman and Villains
But I’m going to be honest, outside the _Toy Story_ franchise which won Best Animated Feature through Toy Story 3-4, their hasn’t been *ANY* animated sequel that has won the Oscar, _Shrek_ and _The Incredibles_ won the Oscar, yet their sequels (both Shrek 2 and Incredibles 2) didn’t go on to win the Oscar with the _Incredibles 2_ losing to _Into the Spider-Verse._ So now that _Boy and the Heron_ won the Golden Globe and BAFTA for Best Animated Feature over _Across the Spider-Verse,_ then their is a good possibility that _Boy and the Heron_ could win the Oscar for Best Animated feature tomorrow night
Corpse Bride deserved won
Luca look like cocomelon style
Encanto was deserved
True
@@DORAisD34D I don't care for Lin Manuel Miranda.
Httyd 2 banned in Cambodia because violence scene But Replace with Rio 2
Walllll eee
2019 robo
Its bullshit. Monster Inc. is the best
Shrek was alright, I enjoyed it, but nothing beats Monsters Inc.
Soul robbed Wolfwalkers
Last wish was robbed by Pinocchio
Brother Bear should have won over Finding Nemo
Kung Fu Panda should have Won over Wall-e but even I can understand why it did won
Everything else I agree with
The my little pony movie and the super Mario movie should’ve gotten nominated instead of boss baby and robot dreams respectively
