Ola, sorry it was blowing the s--- out of your ears! This is a FULL 700 watts guitar amp tone in a fly ready 6.3 lb package. That makes our power rating on the input on the back very confusing as @soad11dude pointed out earlier. Required testing at a certified lab is performed at the nominal power level, which for audio equipment is typically 1/8th of the maximum power of the unit. Our lab has interpreted the various World Wide regulations to only allow the actual test wattage be printed on chassis. Hence we have it list at 270W. the same thing applies to our pedal board sized PowerStage 170. We too think its confusing as s---! Hope this clears it up.

I have this power amp- it does exactly as explained. The only issue I have with my powerstage is how hot it gets - regardless if is racked or not. It gets very hot above the metal case where the Seymour Duncan logo is located. I’ve also had minor issues where the volume would just drastically cut in overall volume. Overtime it naturally went away but it may very well be a factory issue. The hotness def doesn’t seem to be a factory faulty.

    • @rileygiffin4660
      @rileygiffin4660 5 років тому +2

Hey there, Riley from Seymour Duncan here. Sorry to hear about the volume issue you're having -- you may want to reach out to our support team about that. As for the heat, PowerStage was designed to be able to run hot, with a very efficient heat sink. The fan will only turn on when it's absolutely necessary in order to keep the noise level down. Hope that helps!

  • @TaylorDanley

I have one of the ISP stealth power amps. I noticed it basically doesnt get louder past 1/3, it just breaks up. The treble and bass knobs will over saturate if turned up past 2/3's... over all its OK, and usable, but just not what I thought it would be. I'm wondering if it's just common with these small SS power amps?

The idea beyond the Powerstage (rack but also the pedal) is to give a nice, flat sounding, clean channel for pedals (specially the pedal version, 170watts) but also for modellers... So basically you have the 3 band eq for giving an extra (global) shaping to the tone without editing every single preset... If you have the chance try it with the Palladium preamp, it sounds amazing! Happy new year!

The fairest way to check a pedal is by using both a Marshall Origin 50 and a Fender Hot Rod... both sell for $800.00 USD so they are really entry level pro. They also represent both companys well. You get a basic Plexi sound from one and a classic Fender sound as the Hot Rod will give you a quasi Deluxe sound. Everyone is more or less a Marshall or a Fender guy because all tube amps start on the drawing board as one or the other then they are modded.

The pedal doesn't sound half-bad, but definitely a 80's kinda metal sound that to me sounded great for doing stuff like Slayer covers. But probably not the best for tighter "chuggier" (if that's a word) metal tones required for the heaviest types of metal. The other pedal he tested before it to me sounded better for those tighter metal tones. Still not bad, but then again the Peavey Trans-tube circuits were always fairly good. The bigger the amp/cab that you play them through, the better they sound.

That’s my dream guitar. Wish I could afford the 3500 rice tag lol. And can’t bring myself to buy the China version. I’ve played a few China ones and there garbage. I wish they would at least make it in Korea

Tried the 170watt version. Didn't like it at all.
It sounds way too dark, you need to crank the highs.
If you need a class D power amp I highly suggest the electronic Harmonix 44 Magnum.
    It sounds way better.
And the high boost it's a great addiction if you need more top end

What if you would replace strings onto thicker ones (10-52 for instance) and tune the guitar in D? I did that and new sound was really closer to Dime's tone. And then nothing will weak your aggressive right arm.

I was not expecting the Fury 158 pedal! When I was playing in my first band I had this solid-state 90W 112 Fender amp which was plenty loud but didn't give me the crushing tones that I wanted. I remembered that my friend had a Rage 158 that had lots of distortion (but with a shitty, broken 8" speaker), so I asked if I could borrow it for a few days. I ripped the pre-amp circuit out of it and put it into a pedal. It sounded almost exactly like this "Peepers" pedal. I became known for that tone and told everybody that I had custom designed and built that dist pedal.

Awesome! Pretty stoked at how these turned out. What started as a joke between me and another guy turned into a pretty awesome sounding dirt pedal.

Running pedals into the effects loop of your Satan shouldn’t color the tone in a way that is specific to the Satan. The color would be specific to any amp using 6L6’s in the output section, since you are bypassing the preamp. So if you use 6505, 5150, Rectifier etc, then Ola demoing through effects loop of Satan is actually the closest match up to hearing what a pedal would sound like through any of those popular amplifiers.
In either case, that Duncan does sound good, but it’s got a very powerful EQ section that could easily be mistaken for characteristics of the pedal in an audio review. Make sense? Give a shit? No? Eh...good day to the lot of you then.

Ola, I don't have anything from Sweden except stories from my great grandfather during WW1, if you would be so kind as to send me that power amp I will put it to great use. Thanks for the great demo.

You don't have experience with a Peavey Rage? That's when I start to feel old. Man, everybody had Peavey Rages when they started out, at least in my area. :-)

I feel dumb for asking but Could I not achieve the same thing by hooking up a solid state bass amp head to my cabinet? Plus I could use the EQ on the amp to color my sound a bit more.

You don't hook up distortion pedals straight to the power amp. Distortion pedals (aside some exceptions) are not voiced as prea-amps. They are voiced to be plugged in to pre-amps. That's why all your pedal reviews sound dull.

you recommend the S.D. Powerstage 170 (it's loud enough) to practice (Post-Metal) in a room of 5 x 5 meters?

Hola Ola. How about a live stream, it would be really cool to ask you questions live while you jam plus it helps fund your production as you can set up the super chat, cha ching. We can be plugged in world wide with OLA !! Watchin you from Northern Wisconsin ( Watchin You a cool Kiss song ) Cheers buddie.

Did people really complain about you testing pedals with a tube amp? Sure because plugging in pedals into solid state amp totally is a thing and an ancient secret for stellar tone. That thing is cool for modelers and making IRs though.

My guitarist has the 170 version and it totally blew us away. He runs the mxr 5150 overdrive pedal through it into his peavy cab. I'm looking at trying the same thing for my bass rig but using the mxr bass overdrive pedal and that 700 watt model in this video
