Back in Elvis early days, a song might be covered by multiple singers. Elvis’ version became so successful it was of tremendous help to the writers, black and white. He grew up with gospel country and blues, and he fitted them all together to create his own sound. Totally unique and original. Add the voice, the looks, the sincerity and you’ve got your first rock star.

I'm a huge Elvis fan and i subscribed. You seem like a very nice young man who simply believes what he has been told. Did anyone tell you that when Elvis was a child he lived in a black community, they were his friends, he went to black churches. Elvis never forgot where he came from. thank you for reacting to him.

Elvis deserves all the respect and for the story to be set straight. He did more for black artists and black music than anyone else at the time and they loved him for it. Chuck D admitted using Elvis as a scapegoat for his anger. The music industry was racist, elvis didn't cause that. But with his obvious love for all things black influenced, hebsmashed the door down to mainstream recognition for those artists he loved. Check him out properly.
I recently watched a documentary that said elvis didnt even know he was white til he was 7. That says alot about the 1930s deep south he grew up in.

Ok so BIG KUDOS for reacting to Elvis Presley! Now.... FORGET EVERYTHING YOU HEARD about him, because its wrong.
There was no blueprint to a music superstar before Elvis. He changed the entire game. Created a WHOLE NEW DEMOGRAPHIC, the YOUTH DEMOGRAPHIC. HE DID NOT STEAL BLACK MUSIC. In fact HE was its #1 CATALYST.
And young people from EVERY RACE/ETHNICITY loved Elvis. He came up during a youth revolution and Civil Rights Movement, and he was AN ACTIVE PROPONENT for BOTH. Like Michael Jackson, there are a LOT OF LIES AND MISUNDERSTANDINGS surrounding his name, perpetuated by old racist heads.

Elvis was born in 1935 in a poor black neighborhood in Mississippi. He went to a black church and loved black gospel. He was censored on TV when I was 12 in 1956. His movements were considered to sexual. In Those years no white stations wouldn't play black music, until Elvis helped change that. Everything was segregated. He influenced people to listen to black artist. The great artist, Stevie Wonder said, "Elvis stood up for us, he got us attention" Elvis promoted black artist like James Brown and Jackie Wilson. Chuck D started the rumor that Elvis stole music. Look for yourself, "Elvis Presley and the Black Community" Elvis is young in this movie, he changed and voice got deeper over his 23 year career. Thank you for this reaction, Be Blessed

But he never went against his roots with the black community. In the 50's and 60's when his back singers were told they couldn't stay in the same hotel.. Elvis said I won't perform.. There are many people these days who'll claim Elvis stole from others. But every male artist from his time period, from Little Richard to James Brwon to Jackie Brown had nothing but good things to say about Elvis. In that time period, all artists were free to sample and record any published musical material. So, if you wrote it, and anyone from Sinatra to Peggy Lee to Elvis wanted to record it, they were free to do so...and you made good coin from the royalties. Little Richard recollected that sales from his recoding of Tutti Frity were so dismal that he had to go back to washing dishes to make ends meet, but after Elvis recorded it, and he received his royalties, Little Richard was happy as can be. He gained widespread recognition and lots of touring dates from Elvis' recording of his song. Look it up here on UA-cam.

Elvis fused R&B with country & white & Black gospel. He grew up in poverty during the Great Depression & lived in a neighborhood that was predominantly Black. He attended both Black and white churches. After his family moved to Memphis when Elvis was 14, He spent a lot of time on Beale Street, a hub of Black culture & home to the birth of Rock & Roll. At the time, the U.S. was deeply segregated; even radio stations were segregated - white singers' music was only played on white stations & Black music was only played on Black stations. That changed when Elvis's music crossed over to Black stations & white stations which helped to elevate Black musicians to white audiences. In the 1950's and 1960's Elvis's music was popular with both Black & white audiences. He always paid homage to the Black influences in his music at a time when it wasn't popular to do so. It's hard to fault someone for loving both Black & white music & fusing the two together to come up with a new sound. Elvis's Black peers praised him at the time for helping them cross-over into an area that had been reserved for white singers.
As for his voice in the 1950's, it was higher & more 'bright' than it was as he aged; although, even then with his large vocal range, Elvis also recorded music that took advantage of his baritone. Elvis's voice 'evolved' over time & the 3 decades he recorded reflect that fact. His voice became fuller & he used all of his range in the 1960's & 1970's while at the same time, he hit and held high notes that were sometimes operatic in sound. Elvis was a unique & talented singer who's been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame; the R&B Hall of Fame, the Rockabilly Hall of Fame; the Gospel Hall of Fame; & the Country Hall of Fame. He is the only artist who is in all 5 of the major Halls of Fame & numerous others. Give Elvis's music a chance, you won't be disappointed.

Im glad you had the guts to react to Elvis Presley. You will grow your channel if you do a deep dive into Elvis Presley. And the biggest surprise I think you'll encounter? THE LARGE SUPER MAJORITY of LEGENDS in the black community MADE THEMSELVES CRYSTAL CLEAR on Elvis: Here are a few of the biggest, and most of the them actually KNEW Elvis personally and professionally.
BARRY WHITE: "Elvis Presley saved my life." White continued: "It was like he was telling me: ‘Change your life, Barry, you’re thinking about going another way. It’s now or never.’ I understood that."
CHUCK BERRY: “Describe Elvis Presley? He was the greatest who ever was, is or ever will be.”
BEYONCE- Elvis is iconic; a lot of performers today look to him for inspiration.
MUHAMMAD ALI - 'Elvis was my close personal friend. He had a robe made for me. I don't admire nobody, but Elvis Presley was the sweetest, most humble and nicest man you'd want to know. We must understand, Elvis did lot for poor people, he cared for people, he had a good heart, he just wasn't a person who was great with talent, but he was great in spirit and with God in his heart. I wouldn't praise nobody if he don't deserve it, because I am the greatest of all time in boxing, in boxing. I said boxing ! But I'm telling you, I'm Black, I'm a Islamic, I'm 100% different from you. But I’ll tell the world Elvis was the greatest of all time. I'm a Muslim who's black who stands up for what he believes. I don't have to say what I don't feel, I'm not false, I don't have to say this. I have no Bosses. I'm free. He to me, is one of the greatest singers, actors and all round men of all time.” ~ "THE GREATEST" MUHAMMAD ALI.
BB KING: 'Let me tell you the definitive truth about Elvis Presley and racism', The King of the Blues, B.B. King said in 2010. 'With Elvis, there was not a single drop of racism in that man. And when I say that, believe me I should know'. -- BB KING
The "GODFATHER OF SOUL" JAMES BROWN: “I wasn’t just a fan, I was his brother. He said I was good and I said he was good; we never argued about that. Elvis was a hard worker, dedicated, and God loved him … I love him and hope to see him in heaven. There will never be another like that Soul Brother”.
During Elvis' private family wake, James was the LAST ONE TO LEAVE. 3 hours and 30 minutes later -- it took several of his security guards to physically help him out of the room. James was devastated -- James and Elvis sang Gospel together many a night to all hours of the morning at each others' homes. James Brown was considered family by the Presleys because they were so close. After the wake, back to the studio to cut a personal tribute to his lifelong friend, a song they sang together privately ua-cam.com/video/TCH_OROH_WI/v-deo.html -- but JB changes the words as only he can.
JOHN LEE HOOKER actually called Elvis "The ROCK AND ROLL KING" in his music studio during one of his songs to tribute his close personal friend, EP. Listen to it here -- ua-cam.com/video/cczYlw8XWZY/v-deo.html&t= "One of the greatest entertainers. He was the King. One of the greatest people to ever been born." -- JOHN LEE HOOKER
JACKIE WILSON: "A lot of people have accused Elvis of stealing the black man's music, when in fact, almost every black solo entertainer copied from Elvis." --- JACKIE WILSON
Elvis quietly paid for Jackie's medical expenses until the day he passed away in 1977. Before Jackie's stage accident, Jackie's son stated that his father would carry a small signed photo of Elvis in his pants pocket. Every day, till the day he died.
LITTLE RICHARD - "He sung my Tootie Frutti & by him singing it, made it bigger & made ME bigger" And then he said: “I thank God for Elvis Presley. I thank the Lord for sending Elvis to open the door so I could walk down the road...”- Little Richard
CISSY HOUSTON: "Elvis loved gospel music. He was raised on it. And he really did know what he was talking about. He was singing Gospel all the time - almost anything he did had that flavor. You can't get away from what your roots are." - Cissy Houston (The Sweet Inspirations co-founder & member & sang vocals for Elvis, also mother of Whitney Houston)
RANDY JACKSON of the JACKSON 5: "Elvis used Rock and Roll to bridge the gap between whites and minorities. He was a wonderful person."
ISAAC HAYES - "Elvis was a giant and influenced everyone in the business." - Isaac Hayes
WHITNEY HOUSTON - " Elvis was very nice to my mother, Cissy. I would see him backstage, he was amazing to look at!"
ESTELLE BROWN of the SWEET INSPIRATIONS: "When I first started working with Elvis, I made the mistake once of calling him "BOSS" Elvis replied back to me, "Estelle, I'm not your boss, I'm your brother." After that exchange --- the bond between Elvis and the Sweet Inspirations strengthened into a lifelong bond. Estelle said that "We felt like equals." The Sweet Inspirations spent the rest of their lives explaining whenever the questions arose how wonderful Elvis was to them.
SHONKA DUKUREH - "I hope people [watch the Elvis movie] with an open heart and be willing to learn or unlearn some things that they may have thought they knew about Elvis, his life and his legacy.”

Did Ray Charles steal country music when he recorded several country western albums in the 1950s into the 60s....he had several hits which were covers of white artists songs?
Chuck Berrys first hit in 1955 was "Maybelline" and Maybelline was a rewriting by Chuck of an old 40s song called "Ida Red" which was a hit for country swing artist Bob WIlls.
Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Bo Diddley had their first hits in 1955 ...Elvis first hit was in 1954 called Thats alright Mama.
Elvis combined blues, country, gospel and pop into a new genre called Rock n Roll.

"He had a way of singing any style and make you believe it, that made a lot of people like myself like him. To me they did not get it wrong when they called him the King."

For a white performer to support the civil rights movement so publicly was extremely rare, and was life threatening and career threatening. EP was a huge proponent of civil rights. I think you will dig this one: ua-cam.com/video/u-pP_dCenJA/v-deo.html

Just a note here regarding "If I Can Dream" so that the info remains correct. The song was written after Elvis & Steve Binder -- producer-director of the '68 special -- saw the assassination of Robert Kennedy on the TV news when it happened. They spent hrs. discussing issues going on in the world, other assassinations prior to King & Kennedy, a raging war, & it was from those discussions that Steve asked Walter Earl Brown to compose a song, not literally as a tribute to any one person or persons, but to reflect a wish & hope for a world of peace & harmony. Btw, this link for "If I Can Dream" ua-cam.com/video/xA142IsjQiE/v-deo.html does not have any of those "ads" covering Elvis up @ end.

Elvis was most interested in racial tensions. He supported monetarily Dr Martin Luther King through donations to the NAACP, which are on display in Graceland. You apparently don't know Elvis much.. this was a very young Elvis.. his voice got so much better with age. I'm just saying.. pls.. don't disrespect the King. If you go down the rabbit whole.. you'll realize how amazing Elvis was. From what I know.. he choreographed this at age 22.. when you weren't allowed to dance like that. Ground breaking stuff at the time.

Rhythm comes in all colors and sizes. We like to think all the time that only black people have rhythm. That is simply not true. Some of the best dancers in the world are white as well. Elvis was a light-skinned brother

The funny thing is All that came after Elvis copied Elvis. John Lemon of the Beatles said ''Before Elvis there was nothing. Yes Elvis grew up in a black neighbour hood and joined in with the church members there. And seen others performers. But when he came out on stage he did his own thing. As Elvis said. ''I just do what I feel I always did that''

"before Elvis there was nothing" lmao typical whitewashing of history, overlooking phenomenonal performers who came before Elvis just because they were black and weren't as popular. Sure buddy. Let's pretend the black artists and gospel singers who inspired Elvis all didn't exist before he blew up

You picked a clip from when he young. That's why his voice sounds higher. Check out his live performances from Vegas in the 1970s for the voice you're thinking of. Or from his legendary "Live from Hawaii" concert that was broadcast by satellite to the entire world. And by the way, that whole "Elvis stole Black music" thing is just ignorant trash talk. He grew up in the midst of Black culture, went to Black churches. The music and the culture is what he knew. He just absorbed what was around him. Besides, you can't "steal" what nobody owns and nobody owns any type of music.

Yes, Elvis stole his voice and talent, and was able to outsing and outperform everyone else, then and now.
But I never hear anyone else but Elvis being accused of ‘stealing’ music when doing a cover. Right off hand, I can’t think of any singer who never did a cover or sang a song they didn’t write. They all stole!!!!
    Dayum!!!!! 😵‍💫😅😂🤣

Please do some research before you spout rubbish! This was taken from a movie of the same name from nearly 50 years ago, it was a completely different time. Elvis was an innovator/original and blended all the music styles he grew up with in the South - gospel, country, blues - made it mainstream and so opened the door to other artists. Little Richard, James Brown, BB King, Jackie Wilson all respected him and were his friends.

Whatever you heard that was negative about Elvis that was said by black people, disregard it, do your own research and you'll find it was BS. It's one thing to not like his music because you simply don't get with it. The racism and stealing stories have been spread by generations of people since it was started in 1956 by JET magazine. It was confirmed to be false, because not only did Elvis not meet with that reporter, but he wasn't in the city where it supposedly took place. The guy wrote that Elvis told him all a black person can do for him was buy his records and shine his shoes. Rap group Public Enemy further spread the bs when they called Elvis racist in one of their songs. When it comes to stealing, Elvis made massive hits. Any song writer whose business was right got paid. It wasn't his responsibility to make their contracts better. Later on his manager actually started taking 50% of the publishing, but Elvis wasn't involved in the business part, he let his managers do it. That's the sad thing about Elvis was that he wasn't a good business guy. As long as he had money to spend he was fine. He always said if he was running out of money, all he had to do was work more.
