Jeremiah, This was the best advice I got from all your videos. I walked the French Way from September 1st to October 5th and had a great pilgrimage. Thank you!
Right said! In the military we have a saying, "Paralysis by analysis". It's easy to navel gaze and "what if" every part of a plan. At some point you just have to jump right in, or in this case just stat walking
Love this! I actually caught myself today at the point of over consuming and said "enough - you're taking the shine off it". I think there is a real risk of just getting bored of the whole idea.
Thank you greatly, for this video. I have been gleaning what I consider to be the basics for deciding the best footwear, lodging, and backpacks and needed THIS video to remind me to stop expecting to be able to plan every last detail.
Thanks for the video. I believe there is some truth to this. We are walking our first Camino in Sep / Oct and have been watching and planning (booking accommodation - private rooms and dorms). We have often thought about will the booking of stays put restrictions on us. Yes, this might be true, however, we have planned many rest days to explore different locations. The nice things about seeing other peoples videos is that we have a list of places to see that we may have missed. Great videos and very helpful for us.
You're exactly right about why I watch Camino videos. I did the Camino Portuguese in 2019 and I can't wait to go again!! The videos keep me looking forward to going again! You are also right about not over planning for someone who hasn't done it yet. Just go! You won't be disappointed! Thank you for your videos!!
I mentioned this to Kate and Nadine last time we did a colab. I'd love to know what percentage of people watching my "how to choose a shoe" video or whatever are really just watching so they can see some of the b roll footage. :)
Love the sentiment. Been loving your videos too. I head from London to Paris on 22nd May, onto SJPDP 23rd May & I start my first Camino on Wednesday 24th May where I walk from SJPDP to Orisson. Since solidifying my decision, your videos have been hugely beneficial. Thank you! You have an awesome channel, keep it up! Buen Camino !!! 💚
I’m doing my camino in April and at some point I got a little anxious because I was over-watching all this videos about the camino and something inside me was like “stop✋🏽 your Camino is yours only and it probably going to look way different than all this videos”. With this in mind, I know I have everything I need for my trip! Thanks for your tips! You’re amazing and an inspiration✨
Alles weitere spontane Entscheidungen. !bon caminó! 🥾🥾🎒
I have enough info (I believe) to do the whole CF. I’ve joined REI to get the pack and shoes I need. I have enough SkyMiles to make the trip. I’ve been training. What I don’t have is 40 days vacation time. So, I’m going to have wait until I retire next year. So, to keep me motivated, I watch Camino videos, even though I’m really tired of watching the continuous SJP to Roncesvalles stage. So keep posting videos for those of us who live vicariously through them.
I've seen some (maybe a lot) videos the last week or so because I just didn't know what to do with myself. So half an hour ago I booked a ticket to Lisbon. I'll be walking the whole CP (hopefully), starting early May. I'll be taking all the time I need, trying not to stress it. Don't know which route to take after Porto, but it'll sort itself out. I want to thank you for giving me the courage to even try. I'll continue hiking through snow on my training route, but at least now it's for a better defined purpose.
The desire to walk the camino is the only thing that makes me want to wake up and do stuff. So these videos sometimes help me just to keep this spark alive and I so don't want this spark to fade. I'm gonna go Camino de Frances in autumn (possibly) and I try not to watch any vlogs from there, only from other caminos. In hopes that when I go on them I'll forget everything I've seen. I know I may be destroying some mistery now, but if it keeps me going in life then it's worth it. Just another bit of perspective from someone who's struggling with mental health a bit
Anna, thanks for your super vulnerable response. Truth is that it will take away some “mystery”….but Camino is still Camino for me even after walking the same section about 6-7 times now. If you are struggling to keep pushing forward…do what you have to do. FWIW: many of my students have mental health struggles. Can I say that I have NEVER had folks suffer from bouts of anxiety or depression while on the Way. Not to say it can’t happen. But it is the perfect environment. Lots of exercise. Lots of sun. No mental stress. Connected with people who accept you as you are….seriously…it’s so good for folks mental health. I’m praying for you. I’ve never struggled with mental health but I’m deeply acquainted with the battle. Keep fighting. Buen Camino!
@@CaminoGuide thank you for such a kind reply! My favourite kind of books is the ones where someone goes somewhere and I'll get to be that character so I have no doubt it will be great. It's a possibility to look inwards as well. Thank you for all that you do, it's the glory of the internet and our time:) The luxury of having information. So it's not the reason to stop shooting awesome videos😛
It won't take any mystery away cause you have tons of places to lose yourself that these videos don't show. Just do your Camino and not someone else's.
Lol... I'm an overthinker... been planning ( and re-planning) for 13 years now. I was suppose to go in 2020. .that obviously fell through but now I'm looking at 2024. Fingers crossed I finally am able to go!
Jeremiah -- $249 is a *great* value for what you're offering. I walked SJPP to Burgos in 2021 and I would have gladly enlisted your aid if I'd known about it. I'm heading back in April to do Burgos-Leon and have appreciated all of your very helpful videos.
Thank you. Its a pretty cheap alternative to hiring a tour company. But as I have said to others, Camino is not hard to plan yourself. So for those who need it I am glad to offer a pretty affordable option.
I also want to say that being a guide for many young people is wonderful = getting them out in the world away from the social media and cell phone. This is something my wife and I would be interested in doing if you ever need someone to help you out with a any trip.
Thank you Don! My student trips are always well staffed with faculty from the university. But it is an incredible way to build community for young people if you decide to ever lead a youth trip yourself!
Great point! Defo planning is good though it can never be fully planned. At one point I was stressed because I didn’t have every day planned so I gave up on that. Ends up if I had planned every day those plans would be been wasted time. Yes, plan some and go with it. 👍🏻
True, but there are many parts of this journey that can not be transmitted through a video. Mental and emotional challenges are never communicated well in the videos. I’ve been on three Camino’s and all three were very different experiences. I have never reserved a room after the first night. Let it happen as it happens and enjoy the moment. I Enjoy your videos. Buen Camino!
I understand your premise but I cant drop everything for a 30+ day walk. I have a wife, kids and a business to look after. I'll do it when I dont have to pay school fees. Meantime, Camino vids are escapism. Thx, Matt
I totally understand that perspective. I’ve never been able to go for 30+ days either and I’ve even been able to make it part of my work! I made a rule a long time ago…Go even when it isn’t perfect. Can you go for 7 days? We can plan a Camino that’s 7 days. Can you get 10? That can be planned too. Maybe business and family doesn’t allow to completely disconnect. But what if you only worked an hour a day while there? Would that make it feasible? I once taught on online theology class while on Camino! That stuff isn’t ideal. But it might be the difference between making the Way now and making it 20 years from now.
That like all your videos is exactly what Im guilty of.. HOWEVER. there are those like me who greatly need the videos.... I intend to fly Gatwick to Santiago on a Saturday ( can not get a mid week flight giving me enough time ) Santiago to Sarria same day. Best us a cab. Get passport stamped hopefully in a church if not a few shops etc.. Late afternoon walk to Morgade or to the LAST100K way post ). at midnight on the Saturday Photos etc and starting iwatch THEN. going to ry and walk almost none stope to Santiago... have waled 100k many times in the uk. Hoping to do it in about 18 hours... No sleeping on the way maybe a quick coffee whilst getting the stamps required. Not booked anywhere in Santiago because things may slow awe up and I won't be able to get into an hostel. Your videos and others are giving me the info I need to night walk the first 30k. from then on everything should be OK. Its difficult with a head torch and sometimes I may mis one or two. Many sincere. thanks for your work. Bernard. oh as a ps. I will have turned 79 a few days before starting.. I did do a St Jean P P to Ronsc May this year boy was it hilly. !! Did it in just under 6 hours but boy it was hard.
I feel personally attacked by this video. Lol. Yeah I think I’ve watched enough. This video is just the universe telling me to knock it off. May can’t get here soon enough.
