- Built by a Japanese Businessman moving to America in the 1960s, this vacant mansion features designs from the era such as Conversation Firepits, in home bars, and natural sourced wood and stone throughout the timeless home. The property was abandoned in 1999 and has never seen another owner since, despite that it remains in incredible condition with very little mold or vandalism. Come inside and take a tour through this beautiful retro home built for a family with class.

It hurts my heart to know that this beautiful, well-built house is going to be demolished. We are such a wasteful society. Thanks for lighting up the fireplace like that, it was a cool trick!
What a waste of a cool house. I'd move there in a heartbeat if I could.
As I understand it, narrow hall ways were only a transition from one room to another. Bedrooms were smaller, too, as mostly just for sleep. The larger rooms were the communal/gathering rooms, as family members were to spend time together. The architect Frank Lloyd Wright brought those ideas back to the US and used them in his designs, as well.
That looked like either a Possum or a Racoon from the quick glance we got. And yeah, love your work, dude. You're one of of the best when it comes to visiting these places.

13:20 That's a "Jack and Jill" bathroom, but strange to see it connected to a laundry room. It usually links 2 bedrooms.
That kitchen would have been the first part of the 2007 remodel (it usually is...brings the most return on investment). They finished it, and then it NEVER got used. Amazing.
No one has ever cooked in that kitchen

12:34 it was actually very common to have no ceiling lights in the living room area - you were expected to use floor and table lamps. Why, don’t ask me, but it was a thing at the time.
13:00 I’ve got a built-in ironing board in my house, built in about the same period. So the room it was in may have been a laundry room, rather than a kitchen.

The plant at 15:30 is angelica tree (Aralia elata)
The leaves of this plant can be eaten as a vegetable, so families would have cultivated that for various dishes i guess.
This tree is characterized by a pretty strong ability to reproduce through rhizome, and as long as rhizome enter the house, they will move around indoors and create vegetation space
tree at 29:30 is a paulownia tree(Paulownia coreana UYEKI, place of origin Ulleungdo, Korea)
That grows the fastest among woody plants, so in reality, it can grow to that size in just 3-4 years, not a decades.
In other words, the fact that this plant has entered an abandoned house means that it can quickly destroy and engulf the house due to its rapid growth rate.

I was a child in the 70s and our neighbors had an intercom system in their home. As far as I know it was an outdated amenity by the 80s.

Hi 😊 The weird room is actually a work out room. The blue plastic step is for Step Aerobics, quite the work out craze in the 90's. The cushions are likely for Callisthenics

New appliances did not even have the protective screen taken off yet
What stuck out to me was the fact that as old as the house is and with the size and number of windows in the place,none of the window seals are gone.
You would expect to see at least one or two windows frosted over because of worn window seals, but I didn't see any.
Quality windows put in that house.

As always, the answer is money. Even if the purchase price got down to an attainable amount, the insurance and property tax would likely be unsustainable for most people.
Plus the cost of work that would have to be done to modernize and get rid of mold.
The only people who *can* afford it, would likely just buy something more modern.
Ashamed that this house will be destroyed, has some good bones, many possibilities.
It is ominous at how beautiful it is outside but so stark white and plain it is on the inside. It doesn't even look like there were ever any decorations on the walls in any of the rooms. Thank you for the tour.
I think this was a very interesting explore. I would have enjoyed seeing what it looked like fully furnished and decorated back when it was first built. I thought the bedrooms were quite small and the windows were quite odd being so high up you couldn’t even see outside and enjoy the view. Stay safe out there!

New owners must have run into a lot of issues, and ran out of money, or didn’t want to waste more cash. And what a HUGE property!!
This is such a beautiful house, what a shame nobody wants to renovate it and move in. It's quirky and the foliage NEEDS to be tamed, but it would make a great family home in my opinion.

My guess is, this house is quite far away from any town, to actually be interesting to anyone.
Although you could clearly see that the owners tried to do something over here, in order to make it useable again.
It was clearly well built. The chances that a better home would be build over here are very slim. A newer one yes, but I have my doubts if better.

Natural light, natural materials like wood and stone, winding traffic pattern... so beautiful and serene! The twisting pattern creates separate areas with a kind of mystery and surprise at what lies ahead. So much nicer than small windows and gypsum board mcmansions! Love your work. You have a fine sense of the artistic that's a pleasure to follow.
Really cool place! My favorite part of the house was the fire pit. The outside area was calm & relaxing, but I bet mosquitos would eat me up. Also think there should have been a little bit of outside area with an awning. Sit outside & enjoy the rain. I like a covered porch. Great explore, thanks for showing us. Just a shame a big family didn't want it.

We're told that on the occasion of the dismal idea of "Your property going back to the Bank", due to your inability to afford the payment, for whatever reason. Parents that "owned" the property passed away, no will, or none of the children want the property. But we're told that the Bank MUST have their money REPAID.
IF that were the case, wouldn't these Banks make some semblance of an effort to salvage what is available on the property? But they don't. Such a waste of craftsmanship, architecture, design, history . . . most likely the Banks property at this point, an incredible profit to be made from salvage and/or rehab. And yet, they don't.
The math just doesn't work. What is going on?
Banks just want money, and money only, and want to intimidate those in debt. And what a better way than to take your house?
Nobody wants to end on the Streets.
So people do stupid things like taking another loan in order to repay a loan and so on.
Some do have alternatives though, and it all ends by them giving up the property. In Bank nobody will take care of this, because they dont need to. They will make money anyway.

@ 13:48 that appears to be the laundry room. You can see the see the dryer vent at the floor and the water hookup box on the wall. The restroom right before is called a jack and jill bathroom. Basically 2 separate toilet/sink areas with a shower in between them. So it would be Bathroom - Shower - Bathroom

Japanese architecture always reminds me of japanese horror movies or stories. It seems like there is an environment that makes me uneasy. The ambiance is weird. It would be very scary to be there when it was dark. If a murder was committed, no one would know.

I’m going to have to agree with other people that your commentary is important. I like knowing how you feel about what you’re seeing and your descriptions of details that we don’t get on the other side of the screen, like smells, noises, etc. I can get ASMR elsewhere.
this was almost like a commercial office building or physician's office with all those identical little rooms, the only room I liked was the kitchen
Creepy house with all the weirdly narrow hallways/doors and the creepy children's rooms with no accessable windos and the unusual floor plan and the absoluteyl creepy animal up there in the garden shed! 😵 And this is the reason why bamboo is not allowed to plant where I live unless you have a rhizome barrier.
