There is always Osu! on PC.

@@KnightSama I don't want shitty highspeed nightcore song with a generic anime girl pic for the background.
This takes me back since I recall some songs announced like Living the Vida Loca and Weird Al's Hardware Store being leaked on a GameSpot forum only for the final game to be different. EBA is my favorite music game and the final level is some Gurren Lagann type of stuff.

HARDWARE STORE???? That would've been amazing holy crap
It’s a tragedy this series was never given more of a chance
Bruh.
This is a legendary video.
The MOST UNDERRATED DS game made hands down.
Agreed. It’s the kind of game that doesn’t *look* fun, but it is *amazing*.
Last Window?
Hmmm... I'd have to object! At least EBA had 3 games, all handheld... Fantasy Life only had a 3DS release and a mobile release, never in the States.
EBA had 1 game. Ouendan had 2 which were only ever released in Japan.
Absolutely FANTASTIC video! EBA has always deserved more appreciation. I'm sending this to my nephew...
jevansturner Thank you!
Knowing that we could have had a Ouendan 3 for the 3DS is just too heart breaking for me
Ouendan 2 is still one of my favorite games of all time and it's really important to me
Gitaroo Man is one of those absolutely underrated Rythm Game classics.... Still love it to this day
Legendary theme will dry those fan tears.
BEAUTY IS A SIN...! OH GODDDD!
This video is so very bittersweet. I bought this game when I was 8 because my cousins showed it to me. Never has a game impacted my life more. I’ve been working on my same save file since and finally completely beat it this year. I cried so much. Elite beat agents was an absolutely perfect game and even more than 10 years later I was still getting content out of it. Until this year I didn’t even know there were two Japanese exclusive games and screamed. I beat both of them in a week. It’s so refreshing to finally see the games getting attention again but it’s quite over shadowed by the fact that we will probably never see the agents dancing to save the world ever again. In the back of my mind for the last 10 years I have been silently dreaming for nintendo to give us a surprise EBA 2 reveal during a direct and how much I would cry and scream when they did. Hell even thinking about it makes me cry. The agents making it into smash would be the ultimate reveal for me aside from geno. I thank you for finally giving a larger light to these games. They deserve it so much. The video is so well done. Thank you.
Every single human being I've met has never heard of EBA and it always baffled me.
DYKG: Do you know Osu Tataken Ouendan or Elite Beat Agents.
Me: You have no idea.
I still listen to the soundtrack because the songs were so fire and it just made me happy as a kid to play a musical game with some of my favorite songs. this was seriously my favorite game. The end level was badass. 10/10
EBA is amazing, but the real sadness for me is the failure of Gitaroo Man and no real sequel. One of my favourite games ever T_T
Really glad I got to experience all three of these games, and I do wish they would have made more, but.. yeah, money is sadly an issue with these things. Still hoping for the Agents, or the Ouendan, or maybe even both, to return one day.
EBA is incredibly underrated please play it, it deserves more popularity
It makes me incredibly sad that we never got an EBA 2. One of my favorite games on the DS and one I like to revisit form time to time.
YES! Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!!! One of my favorites and underrated!
Man, when the dev said he got teary eyed, I felt the same way. You do get a little emotional and into these games.
I do love how, in their process of westernizing Ouendan into Elite Beat Agents, they put a cowboy into nearly every mission in one form or another.
It's a beautiful series overall, though. I love it profoundly. If it can't be a game series anymore, I'd watch the crap out of an anime adaptation.
Elite Beat Agents and Ouendan are truly some of my favorite games of all time. Honestly the fact that nintendo doesn't want to pursue more sequels is extremely disappointing, but at least they still remember the characters via Super Smash Brothers.
Tbh, I've always wanted to make my own spiritual successor to the series since nintendo refuses to continue it. Maybe something I can make happen one day...
*The Xmas level...*
Still brings tears to my eyes.
Hearing “You’re The Inspiration” makes me tear up because I didn’t do so well on that stage, put the game away for good, and had to take a long walk afterward.
That's well and good but the ice skater level in Ouendan 2 will have you bawling waterfalls.
@@alexcross5753 Wait, I don't recall what happens if you fail! What's ends up happening?
@@thefroyukenfiles3641 To keep it simple, if you completely fail, the song cuts out to a cutscene 10 years later. The mother simply says that she cannot wait for her husband any longer, implying that neither believe that he will "return." The daughter asks where will they go, before the cutscene ends with the girl hugging the toy bear in sorrow.
I literally ruined many lives, I wasn’t ready for something so heavy being plopped down on me after the frivolous “I want the boy I have a crush on to like me!” or “I want the taxi to make it on time!” stages.
You should have asked about the game "osu", developed by peppy as a ouendan simulator at first that millions of people are playing today. I think a sequel to EBA on Switch will guaranteedly sell just for the osu! factor. I've never heard of EBA, but osu! made me buy a copy of EBA to try it out.
Too bad Peppy is running an illegal scheme around that game with licensing so I’m happy that it wasn’t mentioned at all.
@@omg_kon
osu! itself is in an actual legal grey area as none of the content there is being produced by the developer and none of it is being used for profit. Most artists are fine with their songs being used in osu!, some even endorse it, but if they wanna take it down - they usually do in less than 12 hours.
@@huuishuu most other community driven rhythm games do the same, but the main reason why i see osu being an exception is that all those "community-made" levels with copyrighted songs are hosted on the official site itself. combine it with the existence of the donation system (which is more of an osu!premium with the perks you get), it's pretty sus.
other games usually have the songs scattered throughout the internet, like personal youtube channels or unofficial databases. for such, donation pages on those games are a bit more understandable since they only host the application. (e.g. stepmania)
@@huuishuu Yup. Exactly what you said. There are many creators, especially now that join the "Featured Artist" group to let players use their songs fully legally, so it's getting somewhat better now, but still, how many songs are just ripped from different sources and put in the game, it's really shady, but not really in control of the dev anymore with how much of the material is uploaded every day. There were instances though of people who requested their songs are taken down from the official rankings (i can think only of KONAMI and SDVX II songs).
Peppy makes money from Osu! so it isn't a grey area at all. Those other games work because they provide only the engine itself with no content included. You are *Supposed* to only download songs and content you own legally. Those games also freeware and make no money for the creators.
An EBA on the Switch would have me saying "Shut up and take my money!"
Shame there isn't another title planned.
Excellent reporting!! I like others treasure my time with this series, it was truly an amazing experience! The EBA stage with the weather lady and her son (set to September by EW&F) is still one of my favorites ^_^
Sai Thanks! It’s a great game.
elete beat agents was one one my favorite games growing up. defiantly still in my top 10 favorite games. I wish there was more of them
Damn, I want that shirt!
This is one my favorite series on DS. I remember importing these gems. I played the heck out of them. I wish they would make a comeback.
When I turned 11 my dad gifted me a DS cleaning set and styluses and Elite Beat Agents was included in it, I ended up loving it, a childhood gem for me.
I really hope EBA/Ouendan gets an official revivial on the Switch evenutally and no Osu doesn't count (though it's pretty sick too)
I love rhythm games and this series. I wish they had made one game for the 3DS. It is very bad to see a good game series being shut down because financial reasons.
Amazing video! Really love the game!
Thank you! I love them too.
These 3 games are my favorite rhythm games period... Such a shame it didn't continue.
Well, time to replay this gem.
Hopefully there will be a remake like hidden gems such as summon knight swordcraft
Great video! I love this game to bits and seeing the developers have such passion for it was heartwarming. I just wish you had mentioned the Osu fan game which is a spiritual successor to Ouedan / EBA. I'd love to hear what the developers have to say about it.
Excellent video, I love EBA and Ouendan so much, it was a lame that did not meet financial expectations.
I have only two DS game cartridges left with me. Ouendan 1 and 2. And I still dream of a sequel or a remaster.
Great episode, I'd love for EBA to come back on the Switch!
it's a real damn shame both incarnations never got continued, I would've loved to see them both eventually cross over and cheering people on.
I would've definitely seen it doing well on the 3DS if it were a download-only series to minimize cost of needing to make physical boxes and cartridges, but licenses for copyrighted songs is always gonna be a gamble ultimately... or even on the WiiU as it also had a touch-screen mechanic... heck, an iOS continuation could potentially work too.
Still, it's wishful thinking, I enjoyed EBA as I downloaded Oendan on my old R4 card... in which I'm reminded I wanted to import and own those games after loving them so much.
Orgulloso de haberse completado los 3 juegos al 100%, de mis juegos favoritos sin duda.
You know stuff is gonna go down when a retired baseball player helps a fan with a giant rock monster.
The original ouendan arcade concept sounds a bit like Samba De Amigo
I failed completely at this game. mainly since I would get too distracted by the visuals. :)
I loved Elite Beat Agents. I was waiting every year for a new entry to get announced, but it never happened.
(Even though I doubt it considering song licensing hoops) Switch Remaster when? >.
So, I just spent an hour failing to complete the final level on sweatin' mode and this shit appears on my feed. Good video though!
You can do it! OSUU!!
They neeeeed to make a sequel please!!!!
Excellent vid. U guys rock.
The fact that an Ouendan/EBA game was considered for the 3ds and not given life, hurts me...
It's always about the damn money and sales. It's a disgusting pill to swallow.

False.

Tried too hard with that false statement dude, stop exaggerating.
@@rickylovesyou It not selling well was literally the reason Nintendo didn't want more sequels. Did you watch the video.

This feels like the only Game History Secrets that doesn’t have a depressing ending of a game company that shuts down or a hype game getting cancelled. It might not have had any more sequels but the door is always open should they find a new publisher and the people who worked on the game enjoyed their work and found it memorable. Especially in the games industry, that sort of ending seems beautiful and rare.
The possible 3DS sequel was scrapped though
Ya got me there but that’s one where it wasn’t public knowledge, ya know? It wasn’t like what happened to Mega Man Legends 3 where it was announced and then cancelled.
@@djhero0071 Mega Man Legends was gonna be a thing? RIP

There is a really popular fanmade pc version (with real tablet and smart phone port coming) named simply osu!. The style of map and all the surrounding may have changed (it became a really more competitive and adapt to a new player base) but all is community driven so there are a shit ton of map that are in the same style (and skin) also it's free to play with no pub.
Tldr : the game in itself has evolved outside of the creator hands and vision.
I never realized how international iNiS was. It explains why it EBA such a strong American vibe. Either way, this was a nice nostalgic trip down memory lane. Elite Beat Agents was one of my favorite DS games as a kid, despite the fact I was always worried it would scratch my screen.

This is truly one of favorite series ever, playing Osu! on PC just isn't the same
IDK, you can have the same songs and more, and you can have skins that make the visualks look very similar. it's all opinion of course, but in terms of actual gameplay and replayability, Osu! is better in every way, while of course the story is better in the original as osu pc has no story. But I feel opening song creation up to the public just adds so much more content that while different, anybody looking for a bigger challenge after EBA could easily enjoy osu.
@@deddrz2549 Still, it's not the same. Osu DS > Osu!

I still keep it around to show friends or casually relive some memories and hope for a sequel of some kind. There may be a 1% chance but goddamn do I hope it happens.
Would've loved to hear their opinions on OSU! and how it still has an active community as a spiritual successor
so the biggest reason why the game never got a sequel was because it was too expensive to license songs.
understandable, but i wonder if it was possible for the game to use original songs instead, but i guess it would lose half its appeal.
Also it didn't sell as well as they wanted

If we ever see an EBA/Ouendan installment on Switch, it'd be neat to see some kind of motion controls similar to the original arcade concept with the fan controllers and whatnot. Might make some interesting sync with the dances of the characters and everything. Either way, this series has a special place in my heart.
Ouendan games are really special to me. They were my first experience with actual raw Japanese culture that wasn't localised (like Pokémon). I ended up learning some Japanese so I could understand the story better and forming my first individual music tastes from the soundtrack of the first game when I was in sixth grade. Now I've lived in Japan for a short while and am learning programming to hopefully move back in a year or two. They were also the first rhythm games I was actually good at, working my way up from failing easy to getting all 300s on very hard.
