I’m 72 years old and remember each and every word.😢
I'm 75 and I don't. But I'm a Reggae boy, have been since I was 16, and I started to listen to a playlist that suggested it was REAL music, not hippy drug rubbish.

@@lesholmes1158 Not me. I'm 75, white, and if it is not Reggae, Soul, Funk, Soca, it is just not worth listening to. That record is part of the domination of a culture, a hangover from C&W, and the thieving of Blues by Presley and his Southern racists.
Nothing new under the sun... sadly.

This song came out in 1965 and it's near the end of 2023 and here we go again.
I'm old enough to remember the Cuban missile crisis,,,,,, I don't think I've been this scared sense !
Not for myself , but for my kids and grand kids . I hope , when this is all over ,, we have a working , unified country,
Because the vision of what America SHOULD be is bigger than our individual differences !
Don't let foreign countries, that are our enemies, trick us into fighting amongst ourselves and destroying our own country!
Be Strong !
P.S.,, just to clarify,, my "kids" are in their 40's and my oldest grand "kid" has her masters degree.

The USA is still under occupation by the Jekyll Islanders.
So true because today we have new wars in the Middle East, Ukraine and the polarization/conflict between autocracy and liberal democracy. It’s the human condition in this imperfect world where the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse (war, death, famine/pestilence, conquest) ride over human affairs. It’s up to today’s people of goodwill, valor, sacrifice and compassion to prevail over tyranny and oppression as the greatest generation did in WW2.
I wish everyone would just shut down and stop
This song is so true and reminds me of when my brother was sent to Vietnam to fight in the jungles and swamps. He enlisted in the Army at 16 years old and looked like a little kid in the photo holding his rifle. He was a sharpshooter and managed to survive physically for 3 years in Nam. He said that the officers in charge did not really know where the enemy was or where other American soldiers were. Sometimes the big guns blew up their own men who were out in the jungle. Little kids would run out to the GI’s in the streets with grenades strapped on them by the enemy and blow up the American soldiers. My brother died young from infectious hepatitis he obtained from the swamps after pulling off leaches from his skin. He left behind his son and three step children that adored him as their father. I miss him very much. RIP✝️
I would say your brother was a real man before his time
May he rest in peace

In the Year 2525 (Exordium & Terminus)
Zager & Evans
Richard S Evans
In the year 2525
If man is still alive
If woman can survive
They may find
In the year 3535
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lies
Everything you think, do, and say
Is in the pill you took today
In the year 4545
Ain't gonna need your teeth, won't need your eyes
You won't find a thing to chew
Nobody's gonna look at you
In the year 5555
Your arms are hanging limp at your sides
Your legs got nothing to do
Some machine's doing that for you
In the year 6565
Ain't gonna need no husband, won't need no wife
You'll pick your son, pick your daughter too
From the bottom of a long glass tube, whoa, whoa
In the year 7510
If God's a-comin' he ought to make it by then
Maybe he'll look around himself and say
Guess it's time for the Judgement day
In the year 8510
God is gonna shake his mighty head
He'll either say I'm pleased where man has been
Or tear it down and start again, whoa, whoa
In the year 9595
I'm kinda wondering if man is gonna be alive
He's taken everything this old earth can give
And he ain't put back nothing, whoa, whoa
Now it's been 10, 000 years
Man has cried a billion tears
For what he never knew
Now man's reign is through
But through eternal night
The twinkling of starlight
So very far away
Maybe it's only yesterday
In the year 2525
If man is still alive
If woman can survive
They may thrive
In the year 3535
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth...

Listen, and educate yourselves... This song is as appropriate today, as it was back in the 60's.
It's worse today in 2024 than in the 1960's.
At least in the 1960's there was opposition to the Vietnam war.
Today the US is fighting a proxy war against Russia using Ukrainian proxies.
And no opposition whatsoever to this war because "Russia invaded Ukraine".
Yes, Russia invaded Ukraine because Russia will never tolerate NATO expansion into Ukraine.
Has there been a single journalist in mainstream media that has asked the question: Is NATO membership worth so many dead Ukrainians?
even more so
The SCOTUS is loaded with majority conservatives, they have ruled against the fundamental premise that the forefathers and framers of the US Constitution had intended - that no man is above the law. This and other major decisions, if allowed to continue will only lead to 'a race to the bottom'...

2023 and this song hits us all even to this day .. seems like history is repeating it's self .. talk of nukes and all the hate is coming to a boil .. humans can be so dumb .. so sad
😢
I don't think in this case history is repeating. The mentality of hate, war, racism, and politicism never left or was ever truly addressed by our society.
When it comes to war, this world is on repeat
History always repeats itself if not interrupted by intelligent people who understand that there are other ways to prevent destroying others for land power and greed . Our politicians need to read more history books than write their own memoirs.
Same enemy causing the same problems yes Putin is dumb
I believe we’re living in this time, ironically this song is prophetic, it applies to us today.
Those of us who served in the Vietnam War listened to this a lot during our time in uniform.
You were lucky to make it back.
Well if we end up with a woman president we could be on the Eve of destruction.

I can relate to war. Many of my classmates died or extremely wounded in Vietnam. My brother was plane captain on F-4 fighter jet on Enterprise aircraft carrier during VN along with my uncle. My 2 uncles survived Pearl Harbor and my dad joined Navy volunteer for underwater demolition team UDT.. they all found an paid for my freedom, some with they're lives. My HS friend jumped on hand granade to save his Marine Corp buddies but he didn't die. After 30+ surgeries he got his parents to drive him to my house asking to buy my horse. His mom told me to be strong! An it took everything i had to not burst into tears. He had 3 fingers missing from ine hand. His other entire arm was missing. If I hadn't been around him most of my life through grade school I might not have recognized him? But worse for me, because I was blinded for 3 yrs of eye surgeries, he was completely Blinded! I loved my horse! Half quarter horse/ appy/ palomino, an she was a real bitxh! She's not for sale but I'm giving her to you as I put her head lead rope in his two remaining fingers! When they had left, an I came inside, found myself cried like a baby!
I don't know anyone who hasn't lost a loved one due to wars. And a lot of those that have made it back have their heads messed up, or turned to drugs because of what they saw.
Yet country leaders start wars to satisfy their egos.
What an odd yet very true song. Even for every strength of love, there is still too much hate. For every place or country living in peace, there is always another country or place at war. For every person in the world who lives under the blessings of freedom and liberty, there are still millions who live under the iron boot of tyranny and dictatorship. This song is something everyone should listen to. It's more than just a song, it's a poem of the irony that is human history. God Bless Barry McGuire! 😞😭

When this came out I had just turned 18 and was a paratrooper running the jungle with 101st Airborne. All I owned I carried with me. 59 years later I look and see what people are trying to do to the government I fought for and believe even more so that they are taking us to the Eve of Destruction.
Has nothing been learned yet, I still choke up with our humanity being wasted, and anger at the never ending tragedy still being suffered at the hands of greedy senseless fools!
I grew up in the 60s. My brother had the absolute last draft number.
Scary times for all of us including for you and for your brother during the Vietnam War. I was scheduled to be drafted in August 1968, before the draft lottery that started in 1969. I joined the Navy instead, hopefully to avoid the Vietnam War that I was against. Didn't work out well for me as I was stationed on a couple of guided missile destroyers and spent 15 months on the gunline and/or escorting carriers at Yankee Station in the Gulf of Tonkin. I have a younger brother who had a low number for the draft in 1969. He took his physical, but was never drafted. I'm sure that you had friends, classmates or family members that served in Vietnam.

One of the best and most sincere songs ever written in my lifetime, in my humble opinion.
nothing has changed, nothing was learned and history has repeated itself once again.

"Hate your next door neighbor, but don't forget to say grace." Powerful words, and right where we are today with the fundagelicals.
When I was a kid in the 80s, this song seemed like an overstatement. Looking back from this vantage point, I think it was actually an understatement
Funny how age changes your perspective. Try telling a kid that today. OK Boomer (eye roll).
It’s hard to believe that a song written in 60’s is so relevant today, unfortunately the human race has gone backwards sadly 😪
Been the same since the first war was waged.

It breaks my heart that this song still holds so much relevance today. The words don't change, but they don't need to. It applies in so many situations. Will we ever make it to a point in history when it doesn't? I honestly don't know. But if we don't continue to try, the line will come true about no one to save with the world in a grave....

This song is so relevant today. Many have died over the years for what was required of them. I was in the bush war in Rhodesia (67-77). Lost a friend Pete white in 69 still think of him today
The world is heading there again. I was born in 1944 and nothing ever changes.
our music from the 50's 60's will never die, even old fashion pants, not the wholy -holes - ones, are coming back
a great song that is as relevant today(4/15/23 than it was back then. it always flashes me back to my tour in Vietnam. we were 10+ yrs. in Vietnam,20 fucking years in Afghanistan(sandwiching in between assorted "mini" wars of short duration.) we have wasted too many lives and too much treasure that could have been put to better use here at home.yet here we are again this time it's in the Ukraine....one of the most corrupt countries on the planet....with no end date in sight...
And Tawain, and Gaza, and Israel, and China and North Korea and oh, let's not forget Russia!! Sweden getting their troops ready for war for first time in 212 years. Crazy world!
It is timelese. It is a song for hope. Men must recognize their actions through critical thinking, not emotions. 1968, 2004 or 2024.
THE protest song of the sixties......has lost none of its' relevance today.
You must be one of the cowards that let people like me and others to give our lives and body and body parts for shit like you . Go to Iran
The USA had no legal obligation to intervene in Vietnam, but they did so, killing there own men and Vietnamese for a pointless was that solved nothing
This song is nothing but the truth that is happening this day and age.😢
This still gives me chills, I was in nam in 69 for 13 months enough said….sandman
❤
We protested with this song. The Vietnam War was horrible. So many of us knew our 18 years old friends who never came home. God I wanted our vets home. This song applies today just as much as it did back in the 60s wars will never end. My generation tried…..
Lost two best friends.
For what. Government???
@@andyhowat4624 I’m very sorry you lost your buddies. Senseless
Yeah we lost good friends,!,,.you and your misguided protest friends helped the communists to kill and maim many thousands more .
There is an underlying truth in this song - i bought it in 1967
This song is so appropriate for 2023!
I am! I listened to it in 60’s. More relevant today.
Great song masterpiece still relevant today
