January 8th of 2020 was a dark time in my life. My friends were lied to by my ex that I did something to her, but was entirely false. They kicked me out of the friend group and I fell into a deep state of depression. Throughout those two years were the years I felt so alone. And at the same time my friends kicked me out, was when I had Covid. So much physical and mental pain. I watched your 1st birthday animation where there was a pink dancing dude on a birthday table. It was in the same style as this, with a guy behind a smiling mask screaming internally I say this because that video helped. Watching it helped me feel like I wasn't alone. I don't know what other reasons as to why you made it or how you meant for it to be interpreted, but it releasing on your birthday really helped me connect to your animations, so that I could cope better with what happened P.S. my ex who told lies to the friend group I was in got karma, she ain't gonna see her childhood friends now that they hate her for lying
It's almost as if andy was comparing participation certificates to gravestones, your birthday being a reminder for life and unfortunately inevitable death. I hope you know that you're unique style of art feuls my creativity Andy. You aren't just posting to a void. There are plenty of us who feed off the inspiration you gift us.
It's hard to find videos that can really capture a feeling like this one does. It's such a complex feeling, and he makes it seem so effortless to achieve. Great work man, keep doing what you're doing because clearly you're doing an amazing job
I like the implication that he only gets to watch a video once a year, and it's not even particularly enjoyable, then it's back to quiet suffering. Sums up the feeling of an adult birthday pretty well.
I love how you’re using “An Empty Bliss Beyond This World” tracks in their respective orders. Happy Birthday Andy, can’t wait to hear Libet’s Delay next year. Edit: It happened!
Happy(late) birthday Andy! I love how the animations capture this philosophical meaning in such a strange manner, not punching you with impact or barely giving you it, but feeding you it in a slow..Seeping manner, or well, that's how it feels everytime I see these. I also love how this time it's more..Lonely, there was always something occupying the character, a wanted or unwanted lad, but now they're just..Trapped in their lonesome, and like all of these, magnificently represents aging in just a very intriguing manner. I love how they're animated, written, and set up atmospherically. A wonderful job you did, Andy.
So here's what I've made from this video: When the video appears, it plays past memories of birthdays, hence the birthday cakes. However, as life went on, birthdays become less and less enjoyable. The point of most birthdays is to celebrate life and the fact you've made it this far in life. Like I said before, with life, work, and responsibility, birthday celebrations become less and less apparent, with most people not even knowing. The series of strange videos seem to represent the mind in some way, (which could be why Caretaker music being in the background is a common thing) the 23rd Birthday represents the afterwards of the celebration, in which life continues, however our protagonist doesn't wanna leave. 24th Birthday could follow the same format, but I'm not exactly sure. (I'm not a certified theorist or anything) However in 25th, we can see him at work, (maybe?) the mask he wears could be him showing that he's fine and nothing is bad is going on. Him breaking open the Fire Exit could mean he's finally deciding to be free, but we'll just have to wait until next year to see what more lore we get. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and remember to take breaks every once in a while, it's good for you. :)
Around two years ago, I saw the "23rd birthday video", and, this may be a bit dramatic, but I really do think it was the greatest piece of art I'd ever seen. It was one of my first introductions to surrealist horror with a deeper emotional meaning, which is exactly the kind of art I want to make. andyland became my biggest inspiration, and I followed him on all forms of social media, watching the twitch streams and always being one of the first to watch new animations. This art means so much to me, and I desperately wished it was more popular. andyland deserves all the attention, as he is making some of the best, most interesting, unique, and creative art out there. his stories are like no other, and they never fail to absolutely captivate me. even the shortest animations will leave me in thought for quite some time, as this art just captures an amazing feeling in my brain that I can't explain. Thanks for being my favorite artist ever andy, and I hope you had an absolutely great birthday. keep doing what you're doing, you are very loved and appreciated
I feel like him in the beginning spamming the remote was him waiting for his birthday at 11 : 59 PM, and the little guy randomly appearing was a random person or friend sending him a message or telling him "Happy Birthday!" at 12 : 00, and he wasn't expecting it. Then the TV immediately turned on because it was now his birthday.
I dont think its the fear of death that this represents, rather its the wait for death that for some becomes so long that they eventually wish for it to come sooner, to be finally released from this dark cruel purgatory that we call the world, to finally have our rest and peace.
С днём рождения, Энди! Твоё творчество действительно оказывает на меня некое положительное влияние. Я рад, что познакомился с твоим каналом. Надеюсь ты продолжишь делать замечательные видео!
So, the more years that are added on, the more get taken away and the more depressing the concept of the inevitable end to existence becomes to the point where you're trapped in a sociological system of some sort or something like that, until you escape by exciting FNF fans after making the fire alarm begin to alert.
Okay this might just be the most horrifying series on the internet. So much more so than any cheesy horror games, or crappy VHS catalogues, or anything after. Because this reveals a true, tangible fear. The fear of death. Other animations, games, and stories have TRIED to get that... *feeling* down. But where other animations, games, and stories fall flat is the fact that there's no reasonable way to show how much TIME it takes for death to happen. No matter what, you're limited to the size of a book, the size of a game, *the length of a video.* But you? You've found a way to *circumvent that limit.* Every year you upload a short video that slowly, tantalizingly slowly, yet surely drives your narrative. Every year, something new happens, and then it's gone. There's not much we know concretely about this series thanks to how sporadic it is. We don't know what year it's taking place in, where the character is- we don't even know the name of this character. But we know it's suffering. And for now, that's all we need to know. You're realistically capturing the fear, the feeling, the slow erosion of death. *And it's fucking terrifying.*
This kinda gives a deep meaning to certain people... Or me in the future. I really hoped he would break free this time. And he actually did! Happy birthday Andy.
amazing, maybe the meaning of this piece is fear, it’s almost like the video he’s watching is his own fears on how his life will go. on his 30th birthday, he’s alone and wants to be happy so bad, he’s attempting to trick himself into believing he’s happy. on his 51st birthday, he knows he cant achieve happiness, he wants to give up, yet still tries and will keep trying. on his 64th birthday, he has nothing and nobody, he’s done trying to trick himself and done believing he can have happiness, he’s given up. judging from the video, his 64th birthday will be his last, and all he gets out this life will be a shitty gravestone or participation certificate, maybe he fears this is how his life will play out, stuck in this horrific facility (or maybe mindset?) for the rest of his life. so he gets fed up when he sees his fears in front of his face and finally gains the courage to change his life and leave. idk just my take, happy birthday man! keep your art up!

As always a lovely animation, I really was happy with the ending of leaving, I had a lot of interpretations with it, but the best part is knowing you, they probably are all wrong. Happy birthday Andy.
Woah i didnt know i had a birthday this close to one of my favorite animators, that’s crazy. Happy birthday and here’s to a new year with new animations
He was always happy since he was a child, but when he became an adult, everyone became sad and he started to change, so he put on a happy mask and looked at himself on his 24th birthday.
I'm 21 and I feel the same way: its like life itself is just one big drawn out experience, birthdays just a solemn reminder that your time is limited. I haven't celebrated a birthday since 18 for this exact reason, its not something to be happy about, and once you come to that realization and start to see the bleak truth, it drains you lol.
