  • The Star Trek Original Set Tour is a recreation of the original 1960s set from Studio 9 where the original series was filmed. James Cawley the Star Trek super fan and Elvis Tribute Artist has been working on this over the last twenty years. But it was only opened a couple of years ago as a museum and attraction. They have loads of original props from the show and the feeling you get from being on this set is like being inside the show. I spent a month on the road filming various roadside attraction in 15 states, in 2017 and this one was the best! I recommend you visit this place in Ticonderoga New York. They also have an annual convention called: Trekonderoga!

Wonderful place! Went there this past December to see William Shatner. Got my picture with him in the Captain's chair, a once in a lifetime experience I'll never forget! The tour itself was incredible! The tour guides very informative with great stories to tell. Got my picture sitting in the Captain's chair. One story told to me by a tour guide, at 4:04 in the video, the gold box is an original prop that William Shatner took home with him after the series ended. He then gave it as a gift to the president of his fan club. Years later she passed away and her daughter put it up for auction. James Cawley bought it from her and put it back in Kirk's quarters. Shatner was shocked to see it again during one of his visits to the museum. I love those kind of behind the scene stories!

I'm old enough to remember watching Star Trek as a kid when the episodes were first played on tv.
It was very exciting times then with the U.S. starting to put men into space and then going to the moon.
We see "high technology" in our everyday lives now,but back in the early sixties, there wasn't any hi-tech.Just in our imaginations.
To be a child of the sixties and see all that hi-tech on Star Trek was just wonderful.

I watched Star Trek re-runs in the early 1980s. Back the the only high tech things we had was the one computer in the back of each classroom. It wasn't until the mid to late 90s with discman, digital cameras, scanners and everyone owning their own computer at home that we started to see the Star Trek future.

Man I'd love to visit, as a kid watching ST in reruns in the early seventies it would be like a dream come true to see it all up close in person. Watching it as a kid I was fascinated by the texture of the things I saw. I wanted to touch the uniform shirts to see what they felt like, and the sheets in Ebay < EDIT Ebay? So funny, sorry Sick Bay, damn that's too funny, might as well leave the error there. Geez what an idiot. I wanted to hold a communicator, I was obsessed with that gold flip top. I wanted to touch the dylithium crystals, and the computer chips they used that were in different colors. I just loved all the colors, the uniform colors, the purple and green lighting, the caves and rocks that always had sparkles, all of it, I'd pay extra cash to be able to touch a few of those things, just to finally know what they were really like.
One time I did get to touch the material for the uniform shirts and the story is crazy. I was doing some things at Paramount in CA and was in the prop shop for the Next Generation, and met the costume guy and believe it or not, he had the original rolls of blue/red/and what I thought was gold material, in actuality it was more like a lime green or something, but not gold at all, that blew my mind. Apparently it was the lighting that made it look gold, or at least that's what I've read, who knows. Turns out that they were clearing out all kinds of things and throwing them out, when he came across one roll but didn't get it, but then he found the other rolls and he realized what they were and asked if he could have them and they said yes, so they were under his work bench and I got to see them, touch them, etc. At the time he would make a shirt out of the material for a good bit of cash but he stopped because he didn't want to exhaust what he had, so he stopped. And the material was like a triple thread polyester material, a bit course, with a sort of plastic kind of feel to the touch. I'll never forget how exciting it was to see that and touch it, another dream come true.

The recreations of the props used on the original "Star Trek" TV series shown in this videoclip of the recreation of the original Enterprise sets in Ticonderoga, NY contain I think one error. The two long-handled medical devices (both the long version and the shorter-length version) that heal wounds without using sutures (which are pictured in Stephen E. Whitfield's "The Making Of Star Trek" book) are shown in this videoclip as having red-colored handles whereas in the original TV series' episodes, I think that they actually had grey-colored or light blue -colored handles.

    • @richardwicks4190
      @richardwicks4190 3 роки тому

@@purefoldnz3070 The 3rd season was an attempt to reduce costs which was reducing the cost of the writers and directors as well. I'm sure Nimoy, Shatner, and Kelly were also demanding larger salaries as well.
That's the irony of today, they don't even bother to get competent writers.
They could take the story lines from the 1970's animated series and make a good series with only some minor modifications.
The story lines today are crap, and beyond that the future is bleak, violent and unpleasant. Actors are adequate, direction is adequate, the special effects are phenomenal, but the writing is terrible.
It's a pity that they throw so much money into this soup to have one group that is so incompetent, so terrible, they ruin the entire dish.
That's not to say that this franchise hasn't been going down hill in a while. I didn't find any of the next generation films worth watching. The writing for those was lackluster at best.

I was there about a week ago and they have added frames to the TVs (at least 2 of the 3 in sickbay) to hide the fact that they are just TVs. They fit pretty seamlessly into the sets now. I also have to say that when you're there the drop ceilings kind of just fade away and aren't nearly as noticeable as when you're looking at pictures and videos.
I think the thing to remember is that they're trying to balance "being on the Enterprise" with "being on Stage 9 at Desilu Studios." If you were walking Stage 9, the sets didn't have ceilings and you would see stage lights. I think they do a pretty good job of balancing the two, but I agree that it doesn't always translate as well through photos.

The sign at about 3:00 says $22, but the same Star trek set tour in Kingsland, GA is free on selected days.

For the people who go out this way to see Ft Ticonderoga year after year It can not be that remote beside get out of the city and breath good country air it may do you some good. And seeing wild life in their home is a good thing too.

There's another one in Kingsland, GA.

Advertising is a little misleading. It's not actually a tour of the original series sets but a tour of a recreation of the original series sets. The original sets themselves were destroyed shortly after the show was cancelled.
