    I've been watching your channel for a number of weeks (months?), now. I love your prints! Also, your awesome improvements in use of macro shots. I'm not the biggest fan of the extended, real-time nature of the presentation and editing, but I realize a lot of people like that, so I deal. No biggie.
    I hope this doesn't seem too intrusive or presumptuous, but one thing I'd really like to see you experiment with, sometime, is not (always) blending your media to the point of even, homogeneous color on your printing "matrix"--if your bag plastic technically counts as that. (?)
    The example that triggered that idea in me, in this video, is the passage around 13:54-13:59-ish, when you're mixing the dark green color. With all of your appreciation and creative use of the sumptuous, random, organic textures you achieve with your technique, it just seems to me that the more-variegated texture and color contrast you already achieve (but consistently push past), in your actual mixing and application of paint to your plastic transfer surface, could harmonize really well with the rest of your style. Just another aspect of the "when to stop" issue we all face, making our art, but one I thought you might not be noticing, while you are in the flow of mixing color.

    • @DanTirels
      @DanTirels  3 роки тому +1

      I know exactly what you mean and I will try to film this as a demo in the future, it is a good way to introduce colour mixing to those who are not confident with this process. Thanks for the suggestion. You mention the real time filming of the videos, my reasons for filming like this are mostly to try and represent as accurately as I can my own personnel creative process and in some way try to forget about the camera. It doesn't always work. I'm not a fan of additional commentary, music or time lapse but think it's good to try things out. I have recently decided to film with a DSLR camera so I can now film the close up sequences. Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback.

    I find it enjoyable watching your creative process. Is it possible that gouache could be used as well and achieve similar effects? Or is it best to use acrylics? I am aware that gouache is more opaque, and can come across as appearing "flat". What would be a good remedy to change that outcome? And before moving on to another color, would it be best to let colors dry between layers to limit or minimize them from appearing "muddy"? And lastly, I think 🤔, could a gel medium be used to extend drying time in order to manipulate (push, pull) or the fading out of color/ texture? I'm guessing it would be best to use thin layers of color to prevent or limit cracking of the paint. I'm just seeking your advice. I haven't tried anything I've asked of you. My career choice keeps me away from home for long periods of time. And I can only bring with me limited amounts of supplies. Thanks your time. And for sharing.

    • @DanTirels
      @DanTirels  3 роки тому +2

      I think it is worth experimenting with different paints. I'm not sure about trying this technique with gouache but I may give this a try, it isn't a paint that I have worked with for this process but it could be interesting. I enjoy working with this fast drying oil paint because you can allow it to dry between layers. I do plan to film more experimental videos that show various effects. A gel retarder is a good idea when working with acrylic paint.

    Dan, if you used acrylic paint with a liquid retarder added to each color, then you would have more time to smear the paint with the paper towel. I have never used oil paints, so I don't know if a liquid retarder would work with oils but it might be worth it to try with acrylics so you could work in even more textures. Also, I have the Catalyst brand paint scraping tools. I use them when the acrylic is wet and carve patterns in the colors.

    • @DanTirels
      @DanTirels  4 роки тому +1

      Sometimes it's good to try and work quickly as it prevents the painting from being overworked, I find these fast drying oil paints very similar to ink that I have sometimes used. I have yet to try the acrylic retarder but will have a try. Thanks for the tip.
