Chun-Li is still my favorite character in SF6. Her air combos are super fun, and her potential feels close to endless.
She's my favourite character as well. Unfortunately, sometimes she's too hard for my old fingers. Depends on the game.
Once people truly get raw at chun li, where everything is perfectly optimized and some more tech is found, she’s gonna be top 3 I bet. It’s gated behind mechanical skill, but she literally has every tool in the game.
@@Sharkenjoyer862 Well, except for throw loops, divekicks, command throws, etc. I'd say Jamie is closer to a character that has every tool since all he's missing is a fireball.
I also think she will be rated higher though once people get better at high but most people already think she's very strong and just barely below the top 6 in strength.
Her potential is high yes. But she is very green bar dependent. I’m finding myself constantly really low in green bar.

As a high-gold, low-platinum player with three characters, one of chun-li's major strengths at that rank is that she can DI after any move that isnt heavy. It really helps when reacting to people who yolo the move.

True, and lightning kicks (low and medium) breaks DI armor so its also a good answer
The two moves we were begging for in SFV - Hazanshu (not as a V trigger) and Tenshokyaku - have really made such a tremendous improvement in Chun’s gameplay. I wish for her Level 3, Capcom would have incorporated all her six stance moves in the combo. That’d have been sick.

i miss the old stance tbh. its a pain to input serenity stream compared to sf5 and it comes out so slow as well
I have been playing since SF2, and Chun has always been my main. I really like her in this version, I feel like they made her very technical but rewarding as well. I have a long way to go in my journey to Master, but watching your vids helps a lot. Thanks Justin!

It feels like they are meant to clash at EVO this year. Especially with the parry system being implemented. It feels like Justin might get his lick back after nearly two decades.
Prismaweasel here - that “YEET” on whiffing the upkicks killed me (both in match and upon seeing that) and I always misjudge the distance ever so slightly.

As a begginer that always want to play chun li, this help me to see what moves are use full with chun, i always think I have to use charge attacks if not I am not playing good chun
Both her and DeeJay dont really need their charge moves to be good. Chun seems to have a significantly higher skill ceiling though but even without her stance moves shes pretty solid
@jadowarcadia6227 if you don't use the stance or charge moves you can't even really get a workable knockdown off of any hit, because you need to confirm into spinning bird kick to get one. Both are pretty necessary for this character to be functional, plus her fireball is a huge part of her gameplan. If you ignore either you're gonna a struggle hard imo

If you the stance scares you, don't be. Just think of it as a special move in your combo.
Chun Li is super cool in this game.
You can do alright without stances but you need to know the charges, the spinning bird kick is vital, and the kikoken in some cases.
Change your thinking on charge moves: instead of backwards -> forward -> button, do backwards -> button -> forward. Might improve your consistency.

I love playing Chun, but I think what makes her not top tier is that she's really honest in a game full of characters with wacky dishonest gimmicks lol. Im still gonna play her more than any other character though
She's got some pretty nasty mix up potential and really good midscreen oki thanks to spinning bird kick, but I agree she lacks the bullshit neutral options that a lot of other characters have, light fire ball can be pretty cheap depending on the match up though, it's a godsend against characters like Manon lol

Honeslty it's not that she's bad by any means, she just requires more work to do what some other characters do much easier, which makes her feel worse even though she isn't.
Yeah but at the same time she gets carried by her strengths. I've seen some players with trash fundamentals be at higher ranks purely because Chun is Chun. This applies to other characters too of course, but her buttons, tools and options just make players not want/need to really learn if they don't want to.

Truth. She is not terrible just hard to execute with. She feels VERY rewarding to win with but I think prior iterations of the character in previous street fighter entries were way stronger due to what she had to work with back then. That's just how I feel at least.

What reality are you living in where people are "carried" by Chun-Li???
Without fundamentals and execution her damage is low and her openers aren't fantastic on first blush.
Other characters have better buttons with less skill to use them, combos with much higher damage with FAR less work, and easier neutral options with far less work on the count of Kikoken being locked behind optimal charge timing. She has ONE plus button while every other plus option is locked behind drive rushing, and her one plus button (s.MP) is quite short range, making her other tools need some thought to use them well, granted she definitely has other good buttons.
chun's lvl 2 > extension > level 1 is some SAUCE

I started with Chun Li before going to Manon but shes too complicated for me with all the stance cancels to make combos decent just felt like too much when I could just do half circle punch and do the same

Modern controls should not be allowed in tournaments and there should be an option to filter to them out in ranked matches.

What I noticed even in high ranked when they get pressured to the corner they never Drive Reversal but in SF5 V Reversal was used way more often. Do players even know that Drive Reversal is in the game because I recently found out you can do that couple days ago LOL😂
They know but the driver reversal itself can get punished into a punish counter so you would do it where the button legit has major lag.

The SF6 "best character for you" test recommended modern control E. Honda for me. I tried it out for a bit, but switched back to classic.

modern honda is bizarre to me, in rooflemongers video he talks about how you stiiill have to do the charge motion in order to use his charge moves, but they are also weirdly more restrictive? Weird.
