Really appreciate the honest hobbyist review Andy. As an original V1 owner I kind of read between the lines and bought a like new set of V2’s for half their original price. Covering at least all my current air units and hopefully the upcoming 03. Keep up the great honest reviews mate.
These are my first fpv goggles and I have to say that the form factor is very important to me. Being able to carry it around easily means it's way more likely that I'll at least go out and fly a bit. I found that for me, convenience is king!!!
Sorry Fatshark, it's been a pleasure, but I just found someone way more attractive and up-to-date.
It's been nice spending time with you, but you became an old-tech and didn't care much about improving to keep me around.
I know, it will hurt but, you can't beat the power and beauty of an Apple design.
Welcome DJI to my FPV world, but be aware that I'm also flirting with HDZero, she really is an eye-catcher too! 😁
As always Andy, you get to the nub of the matter and independently point out those annoying details about products that others ignore or gloss over. And I agree, these major manufacturers will always stop communicating with reviewers if there is any hint of negativity - as I found out to my own cost. Keep up the great work.
I’m so happy to have Apple-certified ears for AirPods and DJI-certified face for these goggles. They are an absolute perfect fit for me
I love how in depth and technical this is. Thanks for sharing your insights.
Thanks Andy for your truth and genuine love for this hobby!
I have seen your RCG and YT since the Hubsan. You have always be true to how things are you are probably the only one I actually truly trust for information. And I really don't trust anyone before I have see it myself and tested it. Many thank you 🙏 😊 Alf
thanks as always for your time and discussion!
Thanks Andy! Just upgraded from analogue to the old v2 goggles, now I feel justified for my choice.
I think people (including me) are feeling a bad case of FOMO but this video helps a LOT. if you have a system that works and you’re happy with it no need to spend extra money. There’ll always be something seemingly better than what you have.
Nailed it.
Thank you Andy for the excellent info!
As Always, a concise review with personal thoughts and information abundant!
Your channel has always been the Best Reviews!
You got it !! I'm having the same issues, nose crushing, blur of bottom image that disappear a bit if i keep goggles far from face, may be the foam (waiting to be available, as well as the rc) will help.True review....if no air unit compatibility, i guess i 'll sell everything and go with fatshark or another goggle brand.
When adjusting these new goggles I am reminded that I have a dominant eye. Not so much in the old goggles. This tends to happen on smaller goggles where the optics are pushed past the limit. I wish they where more like HDO2 optics (perfect for me). Hopefully there will be better foam released.
Great video as always grateful for your efforts
This is such a breath of fresh air. Everybody is hyping the avata and goggles 2 so much its really tough to understand whats hype and whos actually being honest. Thank you!!!
liked and subscribed because of this.
i am verry happy with my v2 and my first air unit from when i started learning still works.
i have 2 working air units so im good, dji just doesnt want our money right now
Awesome review as always Andy. This is one of the first reviews I have seen that has told the negative of the goggles only the good. Keep up the honest reviews 👍
Thanks
Great review Andy. Thank you!
I love the DJI Googles 2. I haven't experienced any of the blurred screen. I see a perfect screen at 100%
Wonder how it will be if the new air unit can do 4:3 aspect, if it makes this edge problem any better. Definitely seems like the OSD elements need to be movable, more into center screen.
I have the same problem with the blurred edges with my CobraX.
John Cuppi has a review of the DJI goggles where he also mentiones the same kind of problem with the DJI goggle as you are experiencing
Thanks Andy....glad to hear a honest review
oh man I was looking if a youtuber tell the truth about the same problem that I have with my DJI Google 2 with bluring edge and vignette! and here you go I fund you....thank you so much
advise to everyone to looking to buy the google 2 , I will wait to have DJI fix this ...stay with the V2
Great user experience review. Thank you very much
Thanks!
thank you :)
Kudos Andy. Your honest opinion is highly valued. Keep on keeping on Brother.
Hi Andy, hope you're well great vid
Thanks man
Thanks! Finally a realistic and honest review 👍
I have the original V1s and original air units. No complaints. I won't be changing.
The more that comes out about this the more Walkfail becomes more appealing. Awesome honest review dude.
Danke!
Hello! very good your tutorial! My question is, using the v2 glasses, is the difference in what is seen in the glasses very noticeable? between old air unit (with dji camera) and o3.
Considering old air unit in high quality mode and 50mbps.
Regards !
thank you for your review you always give good ones love to here your side first. please keep up the great work.
Reviews you can trust. Thanks Andy.
Yesterday I got to fly the avata for the first time, it was in the evening. I was pretty in love with the quad itself. Now as for the goggles I share similar problems but not as severe? The display was set to 90% and at the time -- I didn't know you could change it. The corners aren't blocked, the lower right corner is a little blurry for me. 100% display scale however is no good at all. If I wanted it to be "perfect" for the image, I would probably need to drop it to 80% and get it further to the center. Lame.
I have a much bigger issue with them pushing down on my nose, which I figured could be solved with a little thicker foam. I just tried pulling them away from my face a little bit as a test to see where my nose would be more comfortable, which of course puts my eyes further away from the optics, and surprise surprise, at 90%... the sides and especially the lower right corner for me gets significantly worse (this is after fine tuning each eye holding it this way also). I'm disappointed now having noticed this. Also the corners are not blurred, but definitely dark, this was easier to notice today in better light conditions. -_- It is really annoying. (sorry for posting this twice? i was editing it and youtube somehow nuked it...)
Thanks for the honest review!
Nice review.
Thank you
Awesome Review! Thanks for sharing your experience & knowledge. It's important to know all about the new Goggles v2.
I have the Dji FPV Goggles v2, with v01.00.06.06, update.
Thanks Andy for the Heads-up!
Thank you. Genuinely. Saved me a small fortune.
Excellent video thanks
Great review, you’re good at what you do!! Keeping it true! 👊
Thanks Andy, I was waiting for your review before even considering buying the Avata. My DJI FPV drone flys excellent and I get clear edge to edge video in my V2 goggles. :)
great stuff, the old caveat applies though, everybodys face is different, took me a while to get the v2's to be comfy and avoid pulling my lower eyelids down. some wear in is to be expected, how they sit on the nose is probably the critical area, the nose should take the bulk of the weight but fairly high up like glasses do.
Thank you for an honest review 👌
Wow. Guess I'm lucky.
The goggles 2 fit me great, no light leak and I'm not getting any of that black around the edges.
My IPD is just about centered. And I no longer need to wear glasses now that I can just focus each side.
Thus far I'm thrilled with them.
I've been flying low around trees with no breakup either.
Well, sounds like I got lucky because I'm loving this setup.
Solid review - thanks mate.
Sticking with my v2’s, that’s why I ordered the drone only pack (didn’t see the need to overspend). Do you reckon good old B3YOND will get something sorted soon?
Exact same issues with May not being able to focus to goggles. Also the clipped in pad is half disconnected from mine
Can use Modded DJI Fly FCC App. I am using it for M3P and now Avata with transmitter power of 30dB on both 2.4 and 5.8Ghz. And developer updates fly app regularly latest being v. 1.7.4. Just need to connect goggles to mobile device running this app and forces FCC and range issue solved.
Lol you‘re the goat, I was gonna buy the expensive kit just to get the goggles 2 now not so much anymore
I have not had that rounded corner issue with my goggles 2, I can see the whole screen. I will admit that the OSD data (words) are a bit blurred but not as bad as you are showing here. I have found that for me, if I move the goggles down just a fraction on my nose, the blur goes away for the most part, but then there is an issue with it hurting my nose lol. Great video and information though. Thank you!
My goggles V2 is a keeper for its future compatibility
Hi Andy. Thank you for the video! Do the Goggles V2 have a similar penetration or distance reach than the Goggle 2 (the new ones) in the case we were in the US?.
I'll stick with my V2 goggles. I got the better foam, got a little square of pluck foam and slowly but surely plucked tiny pieces away until it's gets rid of ALL of the light leak around my nose. That newest foam makes the V2's fit perfect, and I got a Fat Strap to replace that over the head strap. I honestly thought that worked pretty good, except when you wanted to pull the goggles up and have them sit on the top of your forehead. WRONG! The Fat Strap works soooooo much better it's not even close and they have dozens of patterns, so something for everyone! Comfort is AmaZing!
I also ordered prescription lenses from RHO-Lens in Germany and OH MY GOD! My V2's are ULTRA CRYSTAL CLEAR! From one side of the screen to the other! P E R F E C T ! What a great value those lenses were! No having to fidget with my glasses to get them in and out of the goggles. And, so much clearer! So, get the new foam, get a 2" x 2" piece of foam and trim it ever so slowly for perfect nose fit. Get a Fat Strap and be amazed at how great it works! And if you wear glasses, get RHO - Lens to make you custom lenses to your prescription! Mine V2's can't get any better! Seriously, they are incredible! 😎🤘
PS....add the URUAV analog adapter and the V3 metal case ($29 for the pair) and have analog on or off in 3 seconds! Solid as a rock, works with any analog module, and it doesn't stick out a mile like the BD one Andy had on his goggles. Because of that, I was able to add the very thin and stealth iFlight Crystal antenna array to my V2's and that made analog and digital PURE PERFECTION!
Fatstrap is ace. Have had mine for a while and it just works perfectly with those V2/V1. The sponge foam is better but even the DJI stock foam was not even close to as bad as the comfort/fit issues I personally have with the new Goggles 2. I do not know what they were thinking by plastic molding the nose with such a flat shape by default. It screws people like me with big nose bridges.
You also get way more battery life. The new googles only support 2s.
@@ogfpv1206 That's the most stupid thing DJI did! I got that little rechargeable battery with the V2 goggles and it was worthless! So worthless, I sold it!
The V2 goggles didn't seem to work as well on it, because as soon as that tiny battery lost some power, the goggles didn't function as well... Not as solid. Then it would drop a little more and they wouldn't work anymore. Even though it still had power, they'd get below 7 volts and forget it! I now use 4s 1200mw and not only is it rock solid, but it runs for a long, long time per pack. No comparison how much better 4s works! 😎🤘
In conclusion do you recommend getting the avata combo with the v2 googles vs tje googles 2??
THANK YOU! Finally, someone being honest about this. My biggest issue is that I haven't been able to get them in focus no matter what I've done. I don't have glasses and don't usually have eye issues. But trying to run the simulator with these goggles on was a constant battle to keep things in focus. Not to mention everything else you've said. Pretty disappointed and I don't know if I'd just be better off buying the flysmart combo with the old goggles.
They work funnily for me quite well, but I have a very large ipd - so maybe that helps… and my eyes seem to be quite near to the lenses… thank you for your great work Andy!
me too, my ipd is 74 and they work great for my fat head lol
i just got my goggles 2 i got to say i do love them a lot. but you are spot on in this review. for me what im looking at when im flying is perfect. i do understand that this may bother some people but for me they are 90% perfect lol if they become backwords compatible with the old system id say they be 100% for me. buying new goggles sucks because you can not just go into a store try them on and see if they fit you. i will say the new goggles are half as big as i thought they would be lol
as usual great honest review great work Andy cheers 😁😁😁
Drone-Hacks already released CE Mode to FCC Mode for the Avata.
It seems like you're using the foveated mode, where resolution is larger at the center and lower at the edges. I guess it can be disabled.
Thank you! This information was truly needed. I was on the edge to buy Avata kit. It seems quite clear that this has no use in my gear as EU citizen. I won't be getting any of those awesome features regarding about transmission strength. I must be minority as i truly like the dji FPV goggles V1 and V2 size and form (updated foam, sling and antennas of course).
Finally an true honest and very detailed review of the actual goggles! Thank you...Thank you...Thank you!!
I agree but try to wear those googles as short as possible. Does anybody notice how fast your head heats up using those for a short time ?? Is it the strong signal / antennas so close to your head ??
Great video Andy
The blury issue, i have in every google in the old v2 i have it too, not as big but it is there...
For me, one eye can see the corners, so since the other eye can't you get that slightly fuzzy corner. Also, I tend to want to kick the bottom of the goggles outwards to get the bottom text to not be fuzzy. But this happens with my v1 goggles also. With the original v1 goggles foam, I could see clearly, but they didn't feel good and the light leaks. The new soft foam gave me fuzzy edges, so I cut it down a lot in certain places to fit my face. Unfortunately, this Goggles 2 foam is already quite thin, so like you said, the vegnetting probably won't get any better. Except for me, I can probably just add spacers on the cheeks and cure the fuzzy OSD and nose crimp at the same time. Hopefully,...
But I'm still pretty stocked about them. I put a high value on resolution, and these are awesome to me while flying. It's just the menu focus, and fogging that really irritate me. Maybe when there's more airflow around the nose, there will be less fogging.
Try turning your screen down to 80 or 90 percent to get rid of the fuzzy corners. Worked well for me.
Great video!
Also a very dramatic downside is that the Goggles 2 are fogging up like crazy.
Besides what you highlighted here, the fogging issues makes them 100% un flyable in summer when it gets hot.
I hope DJI will come to their senses scrapping the Goggles 2 soon rather than later and giving us a Goggles 3.
OMG ITS so true????? WTF!!! 800€ paid for glasses that fog up??? I hope you are a very sweaty person. And it doesn't happen to everyone! everything and so I also sweat a lot!
Fortunately with the WTFOS on the v1/v2 goggles we already got a canvas OSD! So I hope there is still features to unlock that we can expect. More service life for the goggles I already own. ;)
Best review of the goggles 2 on the web! This can save a lot of folks a lot of money...
He's back everyone!
Nice review Andy !
Hi, great review 👍
Nice video! Do you have edges in the Goggles and and blurring with narrow IPD fully inwards? My eyes IPD is 58 mm.
Drone tweaks do a modified DJI Fly app which is FCC which works with Mavic 3 , Mini 3 pro etc and I have heard from developer of that that users using it with Avata are getting it into FCC
Thanks Andy, so many great points in this review.
One issue you didn't encounter, but have heard in another reviewer mentions is the DJI Goggles 2 displays are more prone to fogging. (Mads Tech) It seems related to displays being closer to face, smaller volume, and a quieter fan.
The Avata drone does have a couple features that most cinedrones lack. That is position hold and altitude hold capability. Given Betaflight is more targeted to racer and freestyle drone flyers, such feature have not been a priority. Such features are useful to indoor video, and would help new drone pilot get up to speed faster with fewer crashes. INAV software offers position and altitude hold, but they more meant for outdoor use, and would require upgrading/retuning; so not something a newer, or less experience pilot would be attempting.
This wasn't meant to be a review of the avata drone. It was meant to see if its an improvement over the current vistas and air units. But to answer your questions I didn't get any fogging on a very hot and humid day. I think that's down to my face shape and getting so much light leak enough air was getting in not to fog them up, This will be different for everyone. Its not a good drone at all indoors despite what you may have been fed. The camera is super outside but very bad in low light with lots of ISO noise. You can see a bit of it in the error i was getting before i connected it to the fly app. Indoors in say a home or house the sensors don't know what to do when there is not enough light and the model starts to do things out of your control. If it gets intermittent GPS indoors It is extremely sketchy. It will often go into RTH indoors when it loses signal which will send it flying into the ceiling. You can set signal loss to hover or land but again with sketchy indoor gps combined with sketchy information being fed from the below sensors it will end up in a crash a lot and also cause some property damage. It caused a big gash in the wall in my house for example when this happened. Hope this clears some things up that you may not have seen elsewhere
@@AndyRCchannel Thanks. I realize this was not an Avata review. Comment was more to why it might appeal to non-hobbyists.
I have assumed that DJI drones would use their ultrasonic and optical sensors when indoors. Perhaps misguided (and expect many consumers/beginners could be). The points you make are very valid concerns. Sorry to hear you experienced a wall gash. Not owning any DJI products beyond goggles and vistas, I have little detail knowledge of what a DJI drone is capable, or not.
I haven’t been able to use the v1 or v2 dji goggles due to them not fitting my head (can fit my hand between my nose and goggles while wearing) these new ones might have a chance of working for me, I’ll have to try some.
did you ever try djis upgraded foam linked in the description? sounds like not
Is the blurriness and vignetting at the edges worsened the wider your ipd? My ipd is 71mm but the v2s only go to 70mm.. the goggles 2 go to 72mm.. trying to decide between the v2s and goggles 2 when I purchase my avata imminently..
thank you for speaking the truth! Somehow everyone else have there necks too deep stuck in the hype
Good stuff Andy yeah
keep it real 👍
Whoah, this was eye-opening (no pun intended). As a person with a freakishly wide IPD situation, your review is a life saver. And I also relish in knowing that you, one of my favorite FPV people in all of UA-cam, appear to also be like me (I do not know a lot of people with a wide IPD) like us. So there is that. Thank you for offering such an in-depth perspective on the optics and the real-world image perception of these new Goggles. Definitely sounds like it's not for me.
What's your ipd? Mine is 71mm.. the v2s only go to 70mm but you still think a better experience than the goggles 2?
So I guess you will send it back ;)
Thanks for the honest review. Good contrast to all the influencers DJI selects to get good sales. Had no idea that the goggles are that bad of a fit. Let's just hope the DJI FPV v2 goggles (the older) are well supported by o3 airunits then.
I found the image quality between vista and DJI FPV Racer quite noticeable - and for me it was the only real benefit of the potatoe ;)
Greets, Mario
I agree
As usual, in FPV, we wait for the better iteration. I always believe in buying things after they matured, like the DJI Goggles V2. Goggles 2 promises better penetration like in Nurk's review, and that is without any aftermarket patch/stubby
Goggles 2 fitting Perfect for me! Wait for foam and Test it again!!! 👌
dont see a situation for me where foam is gonna push my face back enough so it doesn't brake my nose and i see a better image. Iv tried with the mountain of face foams i already have
@@AndyRCchannel hmmm ok, for me fitts so good and comfortable
Thank you Andy! It's great to have a honest review on this. I'm really glad I haven't invested anything in DJI beside cinematic drones. Really saving my money for Hdzero coming. I think it's gonna be really good! Although seeing this new foxeer reaper vtx just may keep me analog! Looks awesome
Drone-Hacks has had a Avata fcc unlock for a few days now, though it means you cannot use the dji fly app, as it resets the region.
Then you have to run the companion app again to unlock it.
its not free and you cant use it with the app. That will be fixed ;)
what rates are you using on the Avata and DJI FPV Racer?
Great freaking video
For me dji goggles 2 work just fine and im sticking with them. the question is how do i get a live video stream out of them? there are boradcasting option, which has zero documentation. will yo be the person to figure that out?
I wonder how new the Fat shark Dominator HD goggles will stack up to these 🤔
Great video Andy. Like button enabled too...👍🏻🍻👊🏻
I’m wondering if I should trade for v2 goggles. I ordered RHO lenses for the Goggles 2 and still waiting.
Andy, great video… the goggles seem to work fine for me… I must have a strange face…
Nurk just released a short saying backwards compatibility on way... says he spoke with dji
With the v2? That's the news I want
Hi. I cut away the foam around the nose, and now its okay fit. A little blurry in the corners is not important. Wen jo fly alot you mostly concentrete on the center, and you get use to it. The more i fly the more the Googles is okay. No fog for me and WOW for the size. The noise from the drone is a problem and certenly the 25 mw also are. Dont by it, if there dont come a hack.
Glad you found a solution but having to cut away part of 600 dollar goggles is not something I'm prepared to do. Especially when that part costs 49 quid to replace in the uk
how do you know its 25mw output?
