  • This is how I made a Kydex ESC pod to hold a VESC on my electric skateboard. From start to finish: sketching the layout, making a buck, thermoforming the Kydex and mounting it to the deck are included.

    Great video! Do you think if I got a big enough sheet of kydex, would it be practical to have a really big enclosure enclosing about 100 18650 cells as a 10s10p and two vesc's? Would I need supports in the middle? or would you think the mounting hardware would hold it and the material itself wouldn't warp down from the weight?

    Hi, you do great work it looks nice and clean.
    I have a question for how long you heat the kytex and at what temperature
    thanks Ricky

      @barnes_specialty  7 років тому +1

      Sorry. Thought I had replied. I slowly raise the oven temp over about 15-20min til I hit 340*F. I use a IR temp gun to check and make sure the sheet is heating evenly. I heat it on a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

    What deck did you use and where did you get the belt drive system (specifically the part that goes into the Kegel wheels)?

      It's a Landyachtz Canyon Arrow. The guy I got the pulley from never made any more. It's a 15mm drive setup. I am trying to find another source or might try to make some to sell.

    Real helpful video. I have a xt90 loop for my on/off switch and like this solution! Do you have a link to both the mini USB connector and antispark switch?

    Bad ass. How string do you think your battery box is...say you skate over a speed bump and high-centers and whacks that box. With your weight on it, will it deform and put stress on the batteries inside?

    • @barnes_specialty
      @barnes_specialty  7 років тому

      It's pretty sturdy, but I also like to keep as much ground clearance as possible. I haven't hit anything with it.

      the black material you used to make the case for the electronics... could it be that it gets soft again when you heat it?

    • @barnes_specialty
      @barnes_specialty  6 років тому

      Elias Neururer You have to heat it to 300*+ F to even start to form it. Heat from the sun won't do a thing. They have been using this for years to make holsters and carry those things through a variety of climates and environments.

    • @barnes_specialty
      @barnes_specialty  2 роки тому

      Actually it is fine as it needs to be over 200* F to soften. A lot of police sidearm holsters are made from kydex. It's a great material for this.
