  • This is part 2 of how to thermoform an enclosure out of Kydex. Here I will show you how I molded the plastic over the buck I made in part 1. This box is extra strong with 0.080 inch Kydex.

    Thank you for making this video. This is giving me some confidence. I couldn't find an appropriate enclosure for my large(12S5P) battery, so I'd resolved to make one myself using a similar process.

    Really interesting process, thank you for sharing! Have you tried thermoforming other plastics? What made you choose Kydex?

    You need to have the kydex clamped in the foam much quicker. I use a vacuum method that actually forms while the kydex is still at top temperature. Faster is key

    How flexible is this stuff after it’s heated? I’m thinking it would well as a shield on mountain bike frames or forks.

      It’s very flexible when warm but hardens back solid after it cools.

      Blew the DRV board somehow. Still looking into it. 12S Lipo on 50V.

      Sorry I missed your comment. 15-20min starting with it cold and slowly raising the heat until it's ready.

      ah nice! After seeing this video i found a sheet nearby 28x48 for $50. I might try to build my own enclosure as well. Debated between this and fiberglass
