I wish the whole entrance song of the police force had been longer
Love the Tarantara tarantara and love the way how some of the police are running out of breath for holding that "Hum" too long
"But we should have thought of that before we joined the force" Makes me smile every time

Rylosalex A lot of songs were cut for this movie, and that was one of them. There's a couple of extra lines that go before "When the danger's near...". Look for the soundtrack for the theater version, it has more songs and longer veraions of the songs.

    • @Rylosalex

Yeah, yeah I found the theater soundtrack at the library got it and listened to it. Was totally surprised when I heard those extra lines.

Thank you for posting this. Tony Azito (and the whole "police force") are just fantastic in this movie. Tony must've been good to get the contract he did before and after in the Broadway production. I thoroughly enjoyed his performance.

I sang in an amateur community version of The Mikado, as one of the alto chorus. It was one of those brilliant memories you keep forever... we had enough professionals to raise the standard to wonderful and the rest of us, mere chorus singers- learned and learned and learned. Five hour rehearsals left us breathless and perspiring for hours in winter. Just wonderful stuff, Gilbert and Sullivan- this is beautiful too!!

Back in 1956 I was a 12 year old choirboy. I was one of the sisters in my Boy’s boarding school production of The Pirates of Penzance. The following year I was down for one of the fairies in Iolanthe, but my voice broke during rehearsals so I was told to just mime.
I quite enjoyed the drag and the make up, but this was the fifties and boys couldn’t admit to such things after about age 7.

I really can't believe how good he is at this what-would-be a forgettable role in a forgettable parlor opera. I really can't believe they killed him. Jesus, what a shit-show cosmos I wound up in. In my cosmos, though, Tony Azito gets to play this role, and any other role he prefers, now until the ending of the world.

@WisemanSam599 One of the loudest songs in the production is called 'With Cat-Like Tread', and the Pirates are the least successful in the entire world. @@JonathanToolonie Yes! Most people don't realize this, but being the theater major that I am, we've learned all sorts of crazy bits of info not normally so widely dispersed. Fun fact: In an attempt to make Mr. Depp look taller in this performance, all the other actors were specifically chosen for their height! (though they are of course wonderful, skill and love for the craft played a role too!). Mr. Depp, being only 5'4", had to give a more commanding presence on stage to show leadership, so they specifically used actors 5' and under for the scenes he'd share with them. Very similar to what Mr. Jackson did with the whole hobbits and stuff in the Lord of the Rings movies. Movie magic! I love it!
