In my opinion one of the best boat chases if not the best is from the James Bond movie "Live and Let Die" with the late Roger Moore.

@@thephantomeagle2 Far play to you, I on the other hand was a sixty's child brought up on a young Roger Moore playing Simon Templar, aka "The Saint".
In the intro before the start credits there would be a scene where he did a good deed and someone would recognised him and say something like, who doesn't know the famous Simon Templar, at which point he'd look up and an angels halo would appear, followed by the opening credits. The was great because it was about thirty years or more before CGI. Due to his role playing The Saint he was the very first choice for James Bond 007, unfortunately due to his contract on The Saint it was offered to Sean Connery.
I suppose in a similar way that animals bond with they're parents at first sight, I bonded with Sean Connery as 007. Had it been the other way round......!

Director of "Live and Let Die" took a good look at this movie. Not only the boat chase. But also killing by loud noice in earphones. Ok, Sven-Bertil didn't die. And the villain's words: "Why can't you just live and let live?" Sven-Bertil Taube did much of the boat driving himself. Ended up in hospital. Sven-Bertil, son of Evert Taube. Amsterdam and the immediate surroundings, as stated above, is correct (except that it’s Markenmeer, starting by the “Paard van Marken” lighthouse at the island Marken). When they shortly after go under a large bridge, they need to go through the Oranje Locks, which would have forced them to stay still for a while… From there they can get into the city, after a bit more time on on open waters. The route inside Amsterdam jumps randomly all over the city. Nothing like a trail you can follow. I work as a tourist skipper on those canals, so I recognise all of it.

Change it! Make sure you get a quality oem part though.
I love older outboards, have had lots and still have a few. I run an 80 Mercury on my 65 SlickCraft Etc..
Don't screw around with old crusty impellers or lube for that matter. I replace it every other year regardless of use, as they have a way of getting cracked and can wear on the ends and lose some efficiency also. When I swap mine out there not in bad shape but typically the fins have 'memory' in them. I like just chucking them in the can and slapping in a new one.

I am very familiar with both of those motors (very close anyways). My father had a 1967 Merc 500 and my uncle had a 1970 Merc 650 outboard. I don't recall them ever making those kind of moves though.

Boat mech here. Some of these old mercury motors are still running. None of the ones I have worked on, were as shiny and new as these though. Many parts discontinued and impossible to find, but they keep running. The old (tower of power) style of mercury outboard is the quietest 2-stroke outboard there is. I don't know why.

@@74nova36 I used to have a 1945 Martin 5 hp. It was definitely from a different era. What made the Martin so different was: 1. poppet valves instead of reeds. And 2. Engine was air cooled. The exhaust was water cooled by a strange rigid concentric jiggler-type of water pump impeller, in front of the prop, that never needed to be replaced.
