I've been researching a bunch of different brands of security cameras and was interested in how well Wyze with SD cards and no subscription worked. It seemed like no one who reviewed the cameras discussed this, they only mentioned that they could and reviewing the subscription enabled product as if it were free. Thank you for actually showing what living with no subscription is like.

You sold me on this. Picked one up today second-hand/unboxed for cheap.
Showing the real-life usage and how to navigate the setup without a subscription really helped me where I would have been beating my head against a wall a few times, so thanks.
Also, as it's relevant to some other brands out there (as far as what I've researched), you can keep recording footage while also reviewing recorded footage (from the SD card). I have a class 10 SanDisk 16GB and have had no trouble scrubbing through video while still recording what's going on.
One other quick thing, when setting up, the firmware updates had to be done in succession, rather than jumping to the latest firmware. Just something to look out for if someone's setting one of these up new (i.e. after the few minutes of updating firmware, you might see "updated firmware available" again, and then again, until it's actually up to date).

I've just replaced all of my ADT, gooney-customer service-provided cameras around the house and man - the cost savings ALONE is worth the effort.
What I also appreciate is the no-nonsense set-up. GONE are the days of "is this shit going to work already?"
I also appreciated that getting longer cables wasn't an act of God costing hundreds on it's own. To have another camera installed by ADT, was going to cost $300+ just for the camera and power being run to it. A drill bit, climbing a ladder and a magnet/screw later and this baby's ready for Prime Time.
    Thanks for the great review!

I had some other cameras which were okay but took toooo long for the video to show up on my phone. I did some research which I always do as it's my nature. So about 3 months ago I bought one Wyze Cam and tried it out. Easy-peasy installation, it came with everything (except the SD card) to get it up and running. I liked everything about this camera, especially the night vision! It was clear as day time, sharp and easy to zoom in. I now have 3 Wyze cameras and have highly recommended them to all of my friends...I am happy I did my research and got them.

The data retention on Wyze V3 is only 3 days regardless of what size SD card you have (I've 128 GB). This means you can only go back to 3 days of 24/7 recorded footage. I made the mistake of thinking the Roku Smart Home cameras were just a rebranded Wyze Cam V3 and Pan 360. Once the Free 14 day Roku Smart Home subscription ends, unlike the Wyze Cam, you cannot access your video event recordings on the camera's Micro SD with the Roku Smart Home App. SD has to be ejected from camera and video has to be retrieved with a computer. That is very disappointing and had I known I would have purchased the Wyze Cam V3 instead of the three Roku cameras I bought and installed. Roku should revise the Roku Smart Home App with an update to the firmware or at least lower the subscription cost.

Set up for camera 2 was a breeze but right away it went 'offline' and keeps saying to check internet connection or place closer to router. It is right by the router. lol. First cam still working. Any thoughts how to remedy? Thanks.

Excellent and very usefull video Shane. Thank you. I purchased a few of them 3 months ago and installed 256Gb SD cards to both of them them giving me 16 days (384 hours) of continous recording before it writes over the old footage. Love it. Video quality & sound I agree could be a bit better but for my needs it does the job perfectly. Please let us know if you're still satisfied after a year of using them. Subd & liked. Cheers

Just got this cam. . It DOESN’T notify me of movement without the cam plus subscription, but it DOES record it on SD card anyway. For now it should work in my studio, but it seems I should be on the subscription if I want to install them in my front and back yard since I would actually want to be notified that there’s movement, not just randomly checking my events page and bumping into it.

    • @scaryifliteral

does this record 24/7? or only events that trigger the camera? I live in an apartment building so I’m looking for something I can put in a window sill to point at my truck but I don’t want a notification every time someone drives by or takes their dog out. **** Also what no one talks about is you have to set up a subscription for every Wyze camera. I should be one cost or at least a tired cost like 1-3 cameras $3.00 per month and 4 or more camera $8 per month. Well, you kind of mentioned it but not in depth.

Just got these and I can't playback events for free. The "playback" button is greyed out even if I have an SD card that records continuously. Are you subscribed to cam plus lite? I think they discontinued this free tier a couple of years ago but if you signed up before then, it allows you to still playback events. Unless I'm missing something

    • @scaryifliteral

Everything you see in this video is being done with no subscription of any kind. Nothing has changed for me, still using no sub with an SD card on all but 1 camera. Under advanced settings in each camera make sure you're recording to SD and try formatting it.
I know for a fact nothing has been discontinued at least in the last few months as I've set up cameras for friends and family as recently as that.

For instance; 4 to 6 cameras at once in a grid (left to right), just like how Nest (Dropcam) displays. It looks like your example at 7:53 you can only view vertically, meaning cameras beneath one and another.

Hide your wyze v3 even if u have cloud storage....sometimes motion recording will stop .if you have sd card u can continue to go back and look at footage..
But if your camera is stolen u won't see anything.unless u have cloud..but motion recording stops a lot of the time.....
I also use blink camera as a back up notification..then go to wyze and look at footage based off blink notifications..blink is garbage tho .u need cloud storage..I only use blink as a second camera that notifies me.since wyze has a 5 minute gap...

I had a wyze cam v3 in my garage olus thge $50 subscription. 12 june someone was able to unlock the garage door then walk out with $2000 worth of bikes and a $200 tool box. Wyze never sent a notification or record any of it. Later I went out to grab the bike light to charge it and the camera sent a notification of sound detected. I took all 4 cameras and put them in the trash.

    • @scaryifliteral
      @scaryifliteral  Рік тому

So, a lot of this is a bit strange. First off, there is no $50 subscription. There's $2, $4, and $10 (for their home security stuff) per month. The first two are per camera and you said you have 4. That's $8 a month, $96 per year. The other would be $16 a month and $192 per year. I'm genuinely not sure how you'd be paying $50. Also, if you're paying for any subscription then you should have 14 days of 24/7 footage available saved in the cloud. Even if you got no notification the only way you don't have it filmed is if you either didn't notice for two weeks or you had a lapse of internet/power. Neither of those are likely to be the camera's fault.
