Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at another ABBA reaction made possible via PATREON with "I've Been Waiting for You," during a live taping. Agnetha comes through all the way to the top in this performance with her killer vocals! See me go bananas for this.

There are very few female vocalists who can occupy a spot on that list
In my opinion, it's not only the technique and range capabilities of the singer. It's the emotion, the revelation of their soul to their public. I've heard singers who are near perfect in technic and control, yet they sound mechanical and, frankly, forgettable. I'm not going to mention any of those as some are quite famous. Here's my preferred list of best female vocalists in order of personal preference:
Agneta Falskog, Karen Carpenter, Linda Ronstadt, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston.

Faltskog never knew how good she was. She was so modest in the years Abba were active! Probably the best pop voice of all time! And certainly the best story teller. As good today as she was in seventies.
Agnetha has a very rare yearning quality within her voice her higher register is just incredible she is Abba.
Wow that voice! So Angelic and pure. And at 72 she still has that pure voice.
ABBA has always created music that they like and may have taken inspiration from other acts but they are the most authentic band ever.
This song was so underrated - should have been just as popular as Dancing Queen - excellent musicality with two angelic voices - pure magic.
Way better than "Dancing Queen". I love all things ABBA, but this single is for me the best they ever did.

Agnetha's voice is so expressive in all of the ballads it brings the song to life.

Agnetha's voice sounds so bright and has a very angelic quality to it. She is also so humble about her talent that it just makes the whole package so much better.

Question were Agnetha and Frida's voices enhanced in anyway even before auto tune was around. By the way I am a mass ABBA fan.
@@denplummer7191 I don't think so. Michael B. Tretow used the famous technique of "wall of sound production", which created the famous "ABBA sound", in which the girls' vocals were recorded in "layers". That is why, it was difficult or even impossible to recreate the studio sound in a live performance....this is why I think that ABBA did so many "live" performances on shows such as "Musikladen" and "Disco" (in Germany), among others................in which they "lip synched". Of course, they did do actual "live vocals" on some shows, such as "Top Of The Pops" and others also. And, I must also mention that their 1977 European & Australian Tour and their 1979 European & North American Tour were definitely "ALL LIVE VOCALS"...👍🎤🎤✨

@@denplummer7191 🙂You're welcome. I think Phil Spector was the one who originally came up with the "wall of sound" production, and ABBA decided to incorporate that as part of their recording process. I think one of the factors, is also, that ABBA are Swedish, and the girls' accents when they sing, adds a certain "touch" to the songs. That is why ABBA took the world by surprise, no one would have ever expected, that a group from Scandinavia could conquer the world. Whereas it wouldn't have been a surprise at all if they had been from an "Anglo-Saxon" origin. That is why ABBA decided to record their music in "English", so that way, they knew they had a chance to make it outside the borders of their native Sweden.
This is probably one of the best ABBA songs in there catalogue as far as I'm concerned a classic.

1974 - forty-seven years ago - this group recorded this song. Agnetha was 24 when she sang this, and Abba were already great even though it took the world another year or two to fully begin to appreciate the wonder of this group. This is so far removed from Waterloo, and That's me, showing the diversity of music that they produced. Thanks Dereck and thanks also for showing us how hard it is to sing an Abba song.

I just adore this song and I first heard it in "ABBA The Movie", the only thing wrong with this song is, it's not long enough.
Purely sublime. Agnetha in her prime. This song is so good on so many levels. Agnetha´s singing hits you hard emotionally combined with the evangelical lyrics (is she singing about her boyfriend or god?). To me this is one of the their best!

I grew a major fan of ABBA instantly and mostly of the voice of Agneta when I heard Dancing Queen for the first time through a jukebox. I was only 7 years old. However this song will be my all time forever favourite . This song does so much justice to Agneta's voice, she really has this angelic voice. And I have exactly the same shivery feeling, every time I 'm almost in tears to every verse where she hits that line you describe. And your deep sigh reaction as if you left a big burden behind you.. priceless 😁 I 'm so glad that so many younger people still love their songs. They are icons of an era 🥲
Music from heaven!
The first time I heard this song when I was 10 years old it was like listening to angels and so addictive chorus. I’m sure if it was released as a single it would have been a huge hit like the others Mamma Mia and SOS. Agnetha is perfect form here and it is her type of song I’m sure she loved singing it as it shows.
When you feel a tightness and beating in your chest it is ABBA dancing in your heart,in this song you are immersed in another reality touched by angels singing and lifting you to new heights.
Wonderful ABBA song. Definite hidden gem. Should've been released as A-side single. Agnetha really takes charge on this one. Her voice is so incredibly beautiful, powerful, pure and angelic here. So much emotion in it. And that incredible soar in second verse is just... wow. And girls' harmonies are impeccable as always. Lyrically it's also spot-on from Bjorn. It's amazing how he managed so well to talk from female perspective (not only in this song but in many others). This song describes very well woman's passion and love for someone. You should check out live performance of this song from Australia tour in 77. There is an excerpt from ABBA-The Movie (concert show film).
Considering he did know how to talk from a female perspective, he should have understood how heart wrenching it would have been for Agnetha when he chose to end it with her.
I will never understand what drove him to leave her, she is every man's dream come true.

Loved this reaction. I was a teenager and had this album in 1977. This was one of my favorite songs. The vocals floored me then and still do. So glad people are still discovering it all these years later.

I think this could be Agnethas best vocal ever! There are sever songs she excels SOS The winner Head over heels ive been waiting where her voice higher register is so pure unbelievable.
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded.First heard it in late 1975 when driving home with my parents from a day out in Sydney.My parents are now sadly gone but the happy memories are still there as is this wonderful gift from ABBA who'll always be a big part of my life.

Not so familiar to this song even though I’m a Swede but this was so good. I became an ABBA fan when I grew older, not as a kid. However, apart from your interesting and appreciated reaction I am so happy for their unexpected arraival with new songs, album and concert. Just amazing 🤩

Love this song. I bought the single back in the 70's. Must have played it a hundred times. It's still in a box somewhere because no turntable.

what they made of it in the "70s" couldn't be better, you'd have to invent them if they weren't already there. ABBA will be around forever.
"I've been waiting for You" is a beautiful, happy ballad of hope in love, magnificently performed by the blonde Agnetha, and a fantastic chorus shared with Frida in impeccable harmony.
They recorded it in 1974, a few months after ABBA's Eurovision triumph with "Waterloo", and it was the B-side of the single "So long" that was not very successful
And its integrated her third album, called simply "ABBA" (1975)
This video is beautiful, it is from the TV special "The best of ABBA" (1976)
They also performed it live on their 1977 tour of Europe and Australia.
It is very difficult to make a ranking with the best ABBA songs, with so many of the highest level they have, but even so "I've been waiting for You" would be in my Top 20 of ABBA and in my Top 5 of those sung by Agnetha Fältskog
So the 1 million dollar question is, are you a massive ABBA fan now derek?

This was not live. It was a performance in a German TV show called "Beat Club" and in this shows they never have sung live. Nonetheless it is a great song but in opposite to you I also love the chorus when Agnetha and Frida sing together with this wonderful third voice. 🥰

There are some lovely songs amongst their earlier albums. This particular performance is not live but they could certainly do so in concert. There's a great snippet of 'I've Been Waiting For You' in ABBA The Movie from one of their Australian concerts. ABBA fans have long wanted to have a live release of the 1977 tour.

There were a record just produced for a German audience coming from the Music Show "Musikladen" including the songs "Gonna sing you my lovesong, My Mama said and I've been waiting for you"

Fantastic song from the underrated ABBA album. Songs like this get overlooked in favour of Mamma Mia, SOS, So Long and I Do……. that are on the same album.
