    It's Agnetha singing the lead. She has high soprano voice. I think in this particular song verses outshine chorus (although harmonies are great as usual) as Agnetha's angelic voice soars to emotional heights. Hidden often overlooked gem by ABBA.

      @@Muckylittleme English in not my language, but I don't think it means popular... rather something along the lines of cheap, vulgar, easy... Don't know what word that would be exactly appropriate, but I can't really use my familiar Swedish terms. However, the feeling came very much from that synth or organ sound that dominates the background, so 1960s sounding. I kind of hate the music of the 60s, although I was born in the middle of it :D

    • @Muckylittleme
      @Muckylittleme 2 роки тому +5

      @@herrbonk3635 Yes you have the meaning right, cheap, tacky etc, but it does not describe ABBA overall or this song IMO and is often used lazily by people to describe pop music that is outside of a specific genre they enjoy such as Pop hence my remark.
      They do have the odd genuinely cheesy song to be fair, which I still enjoy for what they are, but that was more reflective on 70's pop and glam rock than the band themselves.
      This song is a beautiful ballad IMO, there is nothing cheesy about it for me and it still holds up today, but your opinion is your own of course.
      Ps
      I was also born in the 60's and much prefer music of 70's, 80.'s (some really cheesy stuff in there!) and 90's to new millennium stuff overall which is very cut and paste and innovation seems to have ceased.
      Led Zep, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd (all amazing rock bands), Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Bowie, The Carpenters, Bee Gees, Simon & Garfunkel, tons more and of course ABBA.
      Yup, I think mid to late 70's was my favourite era for music.

    • @herrbonk3635
      @herrbonk3635 2 роки тому +4

      @@Muckylittleme Being a jazz head, I can still largely agree. Both in that Abba had some genuine qualities, and that the 1970s and 80s were great regarding pop and rock. I love the sound of the late 70s and early 80s (ca 1977-83). Some of my personal favourites outside jazz, latin, fusion (and outside my country) were The Police, Blondie, Steely Dan, Sparks, even Steve Ray Vaughan playing Hendrix. A few "synth" songs were kind of magical as well, such as Ultravox "Vienna". And some super British songs like "My house" were fun (can't remember the group's name). Artist like Al Jarreau and Randy Crawford were great as well (although pop very close to jazz). Sweet also had a few really good tunes, such as the almost punk sounding "No you don't" (before punk became a thing), although that was the early 1970s.
      (Also enjoyed this and that from Abba's later albums, often the non-hits; like The visitors, One of us, Soldiers, The piper, Lay all your love, Summer night city, One man one woman, etc.)

    ABBAs songs are full of catchy and happy melodies; you get in such a good mood when you listen to ABBA. Their music pick you up when you are down or in a depression. Make you want to dance and celebrate being alive. The music is effortless, and yet so complex in all their different layers. In my opinion, Benny Andersson is one of the very best composers of our time.
    When you really and fully understand the text of ABBA songs, you will be amazed of the depth in the lyrics and the phenomenal insights in the challenges of being human. This ability allows us to easily identify with the lyrics. I do not know of any other group that can captivate me and enchant me like ABBA. Their music and lyrics are magical.
    Neither do I know of any other group that can evoke as many different and genuine emotions and feelings in me as ABBA do. This is a rare talent that ABBA have in abundance.
    I go as far as to say that this talent makes their music and lyrics a real healing on a very deep, unconscious level. So, in these very turbulent, chaotic and uncertain times, ABBA has a HUGE mission.
    Love from Lena

    Surprised you guys didn't use a TV performance to know that Agnetha leads on this song. Hope you're not deliberately getting it wrong to trigger comments. The two ladies voices are very similar at a certain pitch when they create the famous 'third voice'. But usually and when singing alone they are quite easily distinguishable. This is one of my very favourite ABBA songs. Beautifully sung. It's also features one of the very occasional times that the ladies swap their usual vocal lines. Towards the end of the choruses, on the line 'And finally it seems my lonely days are through' Frida switches to the higher harmony line. Surprised ABBA didn't utilise this in more songs as both singing high made for an even more angelic sound.

      @@michaele7880 yeah I heard that he was involved in that kind of stuff, I'm not a fan of when certain items removed from public access just because someone involved with them was in some sort of trouble, it happened with Bill Cosby... The Cosby Show was no longer available anywhere I can understand not wanting him to gain profit off of it then cut his funds off but you know a lot of people like the show and it's not fair to the other actors who are in it who earn income from it same with Roseanne, because of what she did all the other actors were suffering and not seeing a paycheck or residuals, the one thing she did was allow her part to be bought out, and her specific reason for doing it was so all the others involved would not go without being paid ...there is two sides to every story though but we need to look at the project as a whole not just one individual person causing an incident regardless of the severity of the incident throw a disclaimer on or something but don't just forbid people from seeing things ever again that's almost the same as erasing it like it never happened

    This is one of my all time favourite Abba songs. Your facial expressions showed your liking - no your amazement and awe - of the song. It was recorded in 1974 and one can only marvel at the skill of the lyricist - then only in his 20s and writing in a foreign language - as well as the composition and of course the voices. This was just an album-filler! But it was a wonderful song. And a super smashing review. Lovely stuff people.
