this is one of their masterpieces. this song is one of those songs that while it lasts, when you are listening to it, you think "this song is perfect, this is the best song in the world, ever". sure, when it ends you can think "nah, it's good but it's not the best song ever", and then you play it again and you think "YES, IT IS THE BEST SONG EVER!".
i love most abba songs, but i used to keep rewinding and rewinding this particular one as a little kid because it was so good, especially that part in the chorus where they harmonize and then it segues to the guitar instrumental.
They created musical masterpieces from their private drama. You can hear the pain and the emotions and that it is authentic. I have so much respect, that they were mature enough to still do music together, to write about their heartbreak and do music videos.
The secret of the voices of Agnetha and Frida was that they fit together, how rarely do two voices fit together. They always stood face to face during the recordings so that they could see when they were singing and when they started. Often times it sounds like it is a single voice. That's just awesome.
Hey there Dereck, your the best reactor of all, you truly know how to critique every single song so perfectly, thankyou for that, I really enjoyed all songs that you analyze of ABBA......you have a great ear where you completely tune into each and every song that both Annifrida and Agnetha sing whether lead vocals or harmonized together, congratulations on your perfect ability to do so. Once again thank you and I will continue too keep tuned into your station, over and out and peace! I'm guessing you know the generation in which I were born now. Lol.😊 take care.
With ABBA they didn't just make music with each other ,they had real relationships , families everything .All the ups and downs and this really shows more than talent and a gift. They really feel and lived this with each other. I wish to have a powerhouse love like that even if only for a while.
This was one of their absolute finest. ABBA at the very top of their game. Colossal Hit all over Europe including 5 weeks at No 1 in the UK. Fun Fact .... for the "turning around" scenes they were stood on revolving flower pots :-)
The greatest break-up song of all time! Everything about this song is perfect. Dancing Queen gets the kudos and is a superior song, but Knowing Me, Knowing You is beyond superior.
Lasse Hallström, the director of the video was a genius already when he did the ABBA-videos. These videos were not as expensive as Music videos became later in the 80's, but the different tricks Lasse created back in the 70's still work very well.
The key to this song is "honesty," and, yes, Agnetha is,"very pretty," as most obvious Latinos such as Dereck comment about blondes, but MANY have commented in other sites that it was really Frida who was at the height of her beauty.
Frida is a natural beauty. She is class, grace and more of a reserved presence. Strangely though she is the one that is the most playful of the two. Agnetha is more of the sex kitten.
Prophetic song for these couples years before the divorces. I can't even imagine having a normal, wholesome relationship in a machine as big as ABBA was back in the day.
From the same album the last song is with no lyrics, just music and choirs but it's soooooo emotional, The whole arrival album is genius from 1st to 10th song 😍😍😍
I was 12 yes old when I first heard this after my parents split. Boy did the lyrics touch a nerve Still does even now. Boy do they know how to go for the emotional spot. It also touched your emotions. I'm a good body language observer. Wanna give ya a hug bruv. Lol
Love this song! This is the first song I fell in love with and learned who ABBA was! I bought a Ronco Records Hits of the year 1977 the as a kid in 77!
this is anexample of abba sound where it is sad lyrics but also has a sad sound but happy at the same time and is something you can dance to very unique. there was another song that is similar dance while the music still goes on.
Other ABBA songs you would probably enjoy listening and talking about (if not already the case) : slipping through my fingers, one of us, our last summer, and of course the winner takes it all. With Chiquitita and knowing me, knowing you, they are probably those where emotional power emerges at its best.
This reminds me of my school days that I am crazy about them ....it started with Dancing Queen..then from then...I m a fan and hooked to them...tnx for the review...💛💖💙 #ABBAisBack #ILoveABBA #WelcomeBackABBA
The music video for "Knowing Me, Knowing You" depicts the band against various colored backdrops singing while facing each other, turning away as a new line is sung. At the end of the video, the band's female members are seen walking away through thick snow. The video was directed by future Academy Award nominee Lasse Hallström and is a landmark in his career alongside most other videos of the band which were directed by him.[
They’re standing in rotating flower pots that Lasse Halström is turning around ;-). He had a very tiny budget. And the Halström angles! You see them a lot... they’re his trademark.
🧡 ABBA! One of their best. I was not a big fan of MTV or VH1 at the time. It was simply about the music for me. It's interesting now to see what the artists were doing with their videos at the time. Thanks again, Dereck, for helping me relive my youth. On to the next reaction. For the love of music - Peace.
Dereck, great analyst. You see details. Very sad song with a sad conclusion : there's nothing we can do.... They were unbeatable about breakup and divorce songs...Greetings from Rio de Janeiro Quarantine, Brazil
I didn't even know there were things lika abba-singles until I saw a british "documentary" in 1999 or so. In my youth during the 70s/80s, there were LPs and then CDs. At least that's what we saw and bough. Singles and EPs were dad's american tradjazz from the 1950s, often in green or red colored vinyl, or my mum's parents boring schlager music :D
No solo la canción es excelente, una letra profunda y armonías vocales impecables el vídeo es muy creativo, juega con las imágenes de trios, y la pequeña imagen de Agnetha sobre la principal de Frida en la segunda parte
Good analysis. I was 14 years old when I bought 1976 the LP Arrival with Knowing Me Knowing You beeing the last on side A. Immediatelly I recogognized the sadness of the song that became the DNA of ABBA since the mid 70s. In the early 70s (Ring Ring, Waterloo, Honey Honey) the character of the songs was more optimistic, more rocking (So Long). Knowing Me Knowing You was the TURNING POINT to the long phase of top sadness songs like One of US, The Winner takes it all and (the climax of sadness...) The Day before you came. Probably parallel to the divorce of the two couples....
I agree, this song foreshadows the break-up of Bjorn and Agnetha; and Benny and Anni-Frid. Another "sadness" song is "When All Is Said and Done" that was in their last studio album, "The Visitors". Another theme that I noted in their first album, "Ring Ring", is a folk music style found in several of their songs ("People Need Love", "He Is Your Brother") that parallels American "flower power" folk music popular from 1970-73.
Although i know this song since its release (1976), this was an interesting analysis of it. thanks from one of the biggest ABBA fans on this planet. :-))

This song is masterpiece and you can hear it as soon as you hear it. Check out the article album every song is different and its the album that they arrived with when the critics had written them off . They knew that abba meant business and were here to stay
